Leroux was born in Paris in 1868. Leroux studied law in Paris and after becoming bankrupt, he became a court reporter and theater critic. His works are considered great contributions to the genre of detective fiction. Leroux wrote the Phantom of the Opera in 1911. Leroux died in Nice, France on April 15, 1927.
