Question Given , find i and for 0 180 without calculator.

Steps / Hints (Similar to My Method of Solving in Part 2) 1. What quarter does belong to? 2. Construct a right triangle that shows the (Without ve sign). 3. Find i and Solution 1. 2. and then i and . in 1st quarter

Solution a) If without any restriction, i 5 3 , 15 , 39 , 51 3 3 , 15 , 39 , 51 When should I stop? What is the range for 3 ?

From 36 (Here is the trick!!) 3 3 36 3 ( Add 30 to all sides) 3 3 39 (Here is the range for 3 ) 3 3 , 15 , 39 , 12 , 36

From Formula above, let B = A, then we have the following! Double Angle Formulae i 2 2 i 2 i 2 1 (with i 1) 1 2 i (with i 1) 2 From Double Angle Formulae, replace all A with , then you will get following! Half Angle Formulae i 2 i i 2 1 2 i 1 (with (with i i 1) 1)

Not recommended to memorize them as they are easily derived! Interesting Discovery Substitute A = 90 into following formulae i i i i i What have you found above?

Note : They can be used by any angles, 36 . Combining with Part 1, they usually appear in solving an equation questions and proof / identity questions. In solving an equation, those formula in previous pages are usually used from Right side to Left side, ie converting 2 i to i 2 I learned it during STPM, now is it in SPM?
