2. Derive the formula for zBU S using building algorithm if the element is a branch with mutual coupled to other element. 3. (a) Explain the necessity of power ow studies. (b) Draw the ow chart of Gauss Seidal load ow method then P-V buses are present. 4. Formulate the N-R (Rectangular form ) load ow problem. Explain its solution. 5. A synchronous generator and motor are rated of 25 MVA, 11kV and both have subtransient reactance of 15% and line reactance of 12% on the base of machine ratings. The most drawing 32 MW at 0.85 p.f leading. The terminal voltage is 10.5kV when a three phase symmetrical fault occurs at motor terminals. Determine sub transient current in generator, motor and at the fault point. 6. For the system shown in gure 6. ALL fault occurs at point F. Find fault current.

7. (a) Explain methods to improve steady state stability. (b) Show that if the reactance X of the line could be varied with resistance R remaining constant, the maximum steady state power that could be transmitted over the line would be greater when X=3 R. 8. (a) Explain the auto reclosing circuit breaker. (b) An alternator supplies 50MW to an innite bus bar, the steady state limit of the system being 75 MW. Determine whether the alternator will remain in synchronism if the prime mover input is abruptly increased to 25MW. (Assuming losses are neglected)

1. Determine the incidence matrices A,B,B1 , C,C1 and K. From that verify the following relations for the following gure, take 1 as ground bus

(b) Write an algorithm for Gauss Seidal load ow method when P-V buses are present. 4. Formulate the N-R (Rectangular form ) load ow problem. Explain its solution. 5. (a) Describe the applications of series reactors. (b) A single phase transformer of 11kV/415V, 50Hz, 100kVA has primary impedance (3+j5), the secondary impedance (0.01+j0.04). Determine the p.u. value of transformer both primary and secondary side. 6. (a) What do you understand by sequence network? What is their importance in unsymmetrical fault calculations. (b) A generator rated 75MVA, 13.2kV has X1 =X2 =20% and X0 =7.5%. Its neutral is grounded through a reactance of 0.25. The generator is operating at rated voltage, load is disconnected from the system when single line to ground fault occurs at its terminals. Find the sub-transient current in the fault phase and line to line fault current. 7. (a) A 50 Hz transmission line 500 km long with constants given below ties up two large areas R=0.11/km, L=1.45mH/km, C=0.009 micro farads/km. Find steady state stability limit if |Vs | = |VR | = 200kV. (b) A generator supplies power to an innite bus via line as shown in gure. The machine delivers 1.0 pu power and both terminal voltage of the generator and innite bus are 1.0 pu. All the reactances are on a common base. Determine power angle equation.

2. (a) Explain merits and demerits of ZBU S building algorithm. (b) Write step-by-step algorithm for ZBU S building for a network containing no mutual and no phase shifting transformers. 3. Explain computation of losses and injected power (Real and Reactive Power) in a load ow study. Derive equations. 4. Derive necessary expressions for the o-diagonal and diagonal elements of the sub-matrices J1 ,J2 ,J3 and J4 for carrying out a load ow study on power system by using N-R method in Polar form. 5. (a) What are the merits and demerits of p.u system? (b) Determine short circuit MVA at the bus bars of a generating station is 750 MVA and other station is 500 MVA. The generated voltage of each station is 11kV. Also nd the possible short circuit MVA at each station when they are linked by an inter connected cable with a reactance of 0.4. 6. (a) Explain the symmetrical component method to analyze an unsymmetrical system. (b) The following sequence currents are recorded in a power system under an unbalanced fault condition. Ipositive =j 0.4 p.u, Inegative =j 0.3 p.u and Izero =j 1.2 p.u. Identity the type of fault. Assume that the pre-fault voltage 1.2 p.u and the post fault positive voltage is 0.8 p.u. Find the sequence impedances for the system under the above conditions. 7. (a) Derive an expression for steady state stability. (b) A synchronous generator has a synchronous reactance of 1.2 p.u connected to an innite bus of voltage 1.1p.u. The terminal voltage of the generator is held constant at 1.0 p.u by an automatic voltage regulator. Determine the dynamic steady state stability limit. If the voltage regulator is done manually, what is the power limit? 8. (a) Derive the expression for critical clearance angle. (b) Explain the solution of swing equation by step-by-step method.

Discuss the dierent types of unsymmetrical faults that occur in a 3-phase system. 7. (a) State and explain the steady state stability. (b) Derive an expression for steady state stability limit of a short transmission line having send end and receiving end voltages Vs and Vr an impedance Z. Also obtain the above limit for a short transmission line having Vs =11kV/ph Vr =10.5kV/ph and Z=(15+j25)/phase. 8. (a) Derive the expression for swing equation. (b) What are the methods used to improve transient stability limit ? Explain.
