Chapter 4 : Linear Equation

Effective Notes ~ A linear equation has only one unknown ( to the power of 1 ) Example : 7x + 3 = 9 ~ The value of the unknown which satisfies an equation is called the solution to the equation of the root of the equation. Example : 5y 2 = 8 5y = 8 + 2 5y = 10 Y =2 The solution of 5 y 2 = 8 is 2. Example2: The perimeter of the figure below is 46 cm. Find the value of a.

(3a+4)cm

(2a-1)

Step: Solve Perimeter of a rectangle = (2Xlength)+ (2Xwidth) 46= 2(3a+4) + 2(2a-1) 46= 6a+ 8+ 4a-2 10a= 46-6 A= 40 10 A= 4
