Campbell Scientific CR10X A Structural Monitoring Favourite

The CR10Xs did the job automatically and faultlessly in very exposed conditions..."

CR10X Datalogger
The CR10X measurement and control system is ideal for geotechnical applications. It can be deployed as a standalone datalogger or as part of a network of dataloggers. It offers a wide range of data retrieval options, from removable storage modules to cellular telephones and spread-spectrum radios. It can be powered by battery and solar panels, making it a good choice for remote sites. It operates reliably in arctic cold, desert heat, and tropical humidity.

The CR10X is particularly well suited for real-time monitoring. It has a multi-tasking operating system that allows the CR10X to simultaneously interrogate sensors, perform control functions, and transmit data. For example, the CR10X can transmit data to a computer for realtime graphic display (ie: RTDM, shown left, or LoggerNet, or a third party software package) while it continues to monitor sensors. At the same time, the CR10X can compare incoming readings to specified alarm limits, trigger on-site alarms, and cause a voice modem to dial a series of phone numbers to deliver emergency messages. The monitoring capacity of the CR10X can be expanded at a cost per channel lower than that of competing systems, and configuration time and costs are reduced because the system consists of standard, off-the-shelf components that are tested for compatibility.

Datalogger Programs
Campbell Scientific can provide logging programs for those who need to implement the monitoring system quickly or who are uncomfortable with programming. Users who understand CR10X programming may wish to write their own logging programs. Campbell Scientific run a School of Datalogging at Campbell Park where users can learn to program loggers to meet their own needs. Training courses can also be geared to an organisations own requirements and can be given at their own premises if preferred.

Civil Engineering/Structural Monitoring Article

Campbell Scientific data acquisition systems' versatile capabilities make them ideal for structural and seismic monitoring. Our dataloggers have been used in applications ranging from simple beam fatigue analysis, to structural mechanics research, to continuous monitoring of large, complex structures.
Highway overpasses, roads, buildings, retaining walls, bridges, and amusement park rides are the types of structures for which our systems provide remote, unattended, and portable monitoring. Our data acquisition systems make reliable structural measurements, even in harsh environments.

The 13 km Confederation Bridge that connects Prince Edward Island with mainland Canada, was instrumented to document strain during ice impacts and to observe weather conditions.

Monitoring technology from Campbell Scientific played a crucial role during road works designed to strengthen the UK's M2 Medway Bridge. The project involved strengthening the pre-cast beams of the bridge at their support points. This in turn required a jacking system to be installed at each of the 20 piers, transferring the deck loading from the bearings to allow the reconstruction of the bearing plinths.
