Alex Muriuki CPA-K, LLB (Hons) Partner A lawyer and certified accountant by training and is one of the founders of Viva Africa Consulting. Prior to founding Viva Africa Consulting, Alex was a Director specializing in indirect tax planning and management in one of the big four accounting firms. He has since founding Viva Africa Consulting developed tremendous experience in both direct and indirect taxes, business planning, dispute resolution and management, training, lobbying and creating specialized tax arrangements. Edward Mwachinga LLB (Hons) Partner A lawyer by training and is one of the founders of Viva Africa Consulting Limited. Edward has been involved in providing advice on tax legislation, principles and practice for a variety of clients including major telecommunications and manufacturing companies. He has been involved in various projects including tax due diligence in mergers & acquisitions, advising on taxpayer remedies and resolution of disputes with revenue authorities, training, assisting in tax refunds and providing general advice on market access, investment strategies and accessing investment incentives. Edward is also involved through a World Bank group project in advising various governments in East Africa in their tax reform initiatives. He has contributed many thought leadership articles various newspapers.

Kairo Thuo CPA-K, CPA-T, LLB (Hons) Partner A lawyer by training and is one of the founders of Viva Africa Consulting. Prior to founding Viva Africa Consulting, Kairo was a director in one of the big four accounting firms in charge of Tax Transaction Advisory which was responsible for merger, acquisition, transaction arrangements, wealth structuring and funds management, corporate and legal structuring. He gained extensive experience in all areas of taxation from years of practicing in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania and has also been involved in tax matters involving other countries in Africa. His experience covers all areas of taxation and industries and is recognised as a leading expert in issues around the energy industry. He is the only individual to-date to be recognized by the Kenya Revenue Authority in the annual taxpayers awards for contribution towards tax education in Kenya having also been recognized by the IFC for outstanding tax advice contribution in the Kenya and Uganda Railways concession process. He also contributed to capacity enhancement for the East Africa Law Society and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. Kairo is also a regular contributor to the Business Daily and previously the East African Standard. Isaac M. Ireri MBA, BA (Bldg Econ), CPA Director He is the head of the transfer pricing practice at Viva Africa Consulting. Prior to joining Viva Africa Consulting, Isaac was the head of the transfer pricing practice at a big four accounting firm where he was responsible for growing the new service line in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, by growing revenues, profits and staffing and training the transfer pricing team. Isaac has been involved in advising clients from a broad range of sectors including automotive, financial services, horticulture and floriculture, air travel, shipping, telecommunications, engineering, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, petroleum, hospitality, commodity trading and certain industry groups having gained his experience from several years of practicing in East Africa and in the USA. His experience includes transfer pricing planning and documentation, assisting clients with transfer pricing implementation, financial modelling for intellectual property valuation and service fee allocations, defending clients in transfer pricing audits and FIN 48 reviews. He possesses a thorough understanding of transfer pricing and Excel modelling skills which he has applied in various transfer pricing assignments.

Mick Murphy BA (Hons), CTA Partner Mick is a Certified Tax Advisor of the UK and is one of the founders of Viva Africa Consulting. Prior to founding Viva Africa Consulting Mick was the head of tax in a big four accounting firm where he was responsible for the tax practices in Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. He was also responsible for the Africa Desk which involved two roles, supporting the development of the firms tax practices in Sub-Saharan Africa and advising multinational companies in structuring their businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa. During his years of practice as he has advised on a range of issues gaining extensive experience in advising on cross border transactions and structuring transactions and investments which experience has been gained from many years of practice in South Africa, London and Russia. Amongst his key achievements was to initiate TaxIn Africa, the only Pan-African tax publication, the Investing in Africa CD which contained investment advice on 37 African countries and presenting at many international events. The Africa Desk role required him to work in a number of African countries and as such he gained extensive experience in doing business in Africa.
