Initial WiBox Configuration

Connect WiBox directly to computer.

The WiBox Wireless Device is installed behind the Front Panel of the Nomad2 at the Second Wind factory. For initial configuration of the WiBox you will have to open the Front Panel and disconnect the serial cable from Serial Channel 1 on the WiBox. Using supplied DB9F Null cable, connect Serial 1 port on the WiBox device to a COM port on your PC. Open a new connection in Hyper Terminal. In the Connect To window set Connect Using to the physical Com port number of your computer (i.e. COM6).

In the COM port properties, select 9600 Bits per second, 8 Data bits, No Parity, 1 Stop bit, No Flow control.

Click OK and your new Hyper Terminal session will begin. To enter the setup mode for the WiBox device, simultaneously connect power to the WiBox while holding down the x key on the computer. Follow the on screen instructions to enter WiBox Setup Mode.

Select 0 for Server Setup: IP Address: (192) . (168) . (002) . (004) This is the IP address for the WiBox device and must be unique IP Address on the network (default is 192.168.2.4) Set Gateway IP Address (Y) ? Select Yes to continue. Gateway IP Address: (192) . (168) . (002) . (001) Gateway IP Address is the IP Address of the Wireless Router in the network that the WiBox is to be connected to. Determine this IP Address and enter it here. Select 4 for WLAN Setup: Topology: Default is 0, Infrastructure. Do not change this setting. Network Name (SSID): This is the SSID of the Wireless Network to which the WiBox is to be connected. Security: If WEP or WPA security is required to access the Wireless Network, enter the settings here. Data Rate: Default is (6), do not change this setting. Enable Power Management ? Default is (N), do not change this setting.

Lantronix Redirector Configuration Software


Insert Lantronix Installation CD and click on REDIRECTOR to install the software. Follow onscreen instructions. Open Lantronix Redirector Configuration from the Programs Menu. Click on Com Setup on the left of the page. Put a check mark next to an available Com Port (unavailable ports will be grayed out) and click OK. This will install a Virtual Com Port on your computer.

Using the drop down box in the middle of the window, select the Virtual Com Port that was just added. Click on Add IP on the right side of the page.

Enter the IP Address of the WiBox device in the Host field. This is the address you assigned to the WiBox Device previously in the Server Setup. Enter 10001 as the TCPPort. This is the port number of the Serial 1 channel of the WiBox and must be entered correctly. Click OK to return to the main screen.

Click on Port Settings in the middle of the window. Put a check mark next to the Raw Mode option. Leave all other settings at their default settings. Click OK to return to main screen.

Click Save at the bottom of the screen to save settings. You will be prompted to restart your computer.

Add modem on COM Port


Once computer is rebooted, go to Control Panel and click on the Phone and Modem Options icon. Click on the Modems tab at the top of the window. Click on Add at the bottom of the window.

The Add/Remove Hardware Wizard will appear. Put a check mark next to Dont detect my modem; I will select it from a list. Click Next.

Select (Standard Modem Types) from the Manufacturers list and Communications cable between two computers from the Models list. Click Next.

You will see the Virtual Com Port installed with the Redirector software in the list of available ports on which to install a modem. Select this port and click Next.

The modem has now been set up properly. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

Nomad Desktop
Create a Communication Configuration (N2ComCfg.new) in Nomad Desktop (See Nomad Desktop Manual). Select RADIO/NET 115K as the Nomad2 Modem Type. Set Modem On/Off time as desired. Enter a 1 in the Dial-In Telephone # / URL. Load this file on the logger.
