The M Thread - ISO 724:1993 "ISO general-purpose metric screw threads -- Basic dimensions" (DIN 13), the standard in Europe,
is recognizable by its cylindrical outer and inner diameter and its precise outer diameter in millimeters.
There are three kinds of ISO metric threads:

coarse
fine
extra fine
The thread angle is 60o. The thread depth is 0.614 x pitch.

Designation
Metric threads are designated with a capital M plus an indication to their nominal outer diameter and their pitch:
M size x pitch
For instance:
M10 x 1.5
