New Opportunities for the Third Largest Conference for US-Based Psychiatrists

Las Vegas, NV, July 19, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Nevada Psychiatric Association, host of one of the largest clinical meetings for psychiatrists in the United States, today announced an agreement with Advocates for Better Health (ABH) of Ramsey, New Jersey, to help it achieve key objectives for its 17th Annual Psychopharmacology Conference in 2012. This event is expected to attract more than 1,000 U.S. psychiatrists and other mental health professionals and will take place from February 15 to 19, 2012, at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas. We are delighted at this partnership, says Barry Cole, MD, director of the scientific program. We have already put together an outstanding scientific program. Our work with ABH will help us build additional offerings and outreach through live activities and enduring materials. ABH is assisting the society and its management company, SBI Management Services, in coordinating additional educational activities developed by a variety of entities. This collaboration fits well within the mission of Advocates for Better Health, says Robert Osborn, ABH president. Since we founded ABH a little over a year ago, we have focused on building on the synergies that exist among previously unconnected organizations. ABH facilitates relationships among societies and other organizations that share common goals in terms of clinical and consumer education and dissemination of information. ABH has recently worked with organizations such as the American Diabetes Association, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health, and the Foundation for Female Health Awareness. The principals of ABH have an extensive track record in developing educational activities for clinicians and consumers and in collaborating with other groups that produce these materials. Osborn was previously president of the professional and consumer divisions of Dowden Health Media, publisher of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, OBG Management, The Journal of Family Practice, Current Psychiatry, and Contemporary Surgery. Executive Vice President Cathy Herbert was responsible for the portfolio of industry-sponsored activities (print, web, e-outreach, live) developed by the journals, as well as products developed by medical education companies and distributed under the auspices of the journals. The Nevada Psychiatric Association, a district branch of the American Psychiatric Association, is a professional, non-profit corporation serving psychiatrists in Nevada. It is organized for the purpose of supporting professionalism in the practice of psychiatry and promoting top quality mental health care. When the Nevada Psychiatric Association hosts its annual conference February 15 to 19, 2012, it will provide comprehensive state-of-the-art information on the psychopharmacologic treatment of psychiatric disorders most commonly encountered in clinical practice.
