Not every dangerous encounter is resolved with a firearm - Security Guard scenario: I was working a security detail at a big-name

rock concert when a Hummer pulled up with a bunch of guys obviously under the influence. They demanded that I raise the gate to let them into the parking area. When I asked to see their concert tickets. I was met with a litany of curses and threats. I knew from past experience that this could escalate to a nasty confrontation. Rather than draw my service revolver, I drew my pocket pistol and the taunts turned to shouts that they were going to disarm me and shove the gun up my butt. The ball was now in my court so I raised my arm and fired a round to the sky. There was a deafening silence when the punks heard the loud report and saw the muzzle flash. I took advantage of the look of fear on their faces and aimed at the driver. I told them to get their asses out of my sight. His face turned pale and the next sound I heard was the tires squealing and burning rubber as he did a 180 and sped off. Yes..youre right, I could have drawn my live fire revolver and gone down the road of an inquiry and official investigation. Did I make the right decision in this scenario. When the moment of truth arrived, Im sure I did. Of course the rule of common sense does apply, that they be fired only in a life threatening situation.
