6
ways to
save
without
hardship
1
Shop around for credit cards. While its ideal to avoid financing fees
entirely by paying off a card balance each statement, not everyone can
do this. Instead, look for cards with the lowest interest rates and
transfer higher-rate balances to that card.Youll save a few dollars here
and there until the entire balance is paid off.
Saving money is often compared to dieting. People know they should count pennies
like counting calories, but sometimes it can be a chore to do so especially when
saving seems like giving up the things you like. But saving money doesnt have to
mean hardship and scrimping to get by. Here are six easy ways to conserve a little
here and there so it adds up in the long run.
2
3

Pay yourself. Set up an automatic withdrawal from your checking account
or paycheck that is placed in a savings account. Or write yourself a check
every month for a set amount (maybe $100) and dont cash the checks, but
deduct the amount from the checkbook tally. Youll hardly miss the saved
cash and will have a substantial amount socked away for a vacation or big-
ticket purchase when you need it. Saving $100 a month for 30 years can
yield at least $150,129, depending on the savings account.
Shop sales. Take out that grocery store flier and buy whatever is on
sale. Build meals around whats offered at a discount. Stick to a set list
and dont stray to impulse purchases.
Save change. Empty your pockets of change and put it in a jar. Those
silver and copper-colored coins are tangible cash just in smaller
form. Its possible to fund vacations or other purchases on change
alone. And now that some banks offer free change-counting machines,
its easier than ever to trade in loose coin for big bucks.
Protect your credit. Lenders look to a credit score to determine the
interest rate at which they will loan you money for everything from cars
to mortgages. The better your credit, the better the rate you can receive
and less money that comes out of your pocket. Pay bills on time and
routinely check your credit report to ensure there are no errors or
incidences of stolen identity.
Make your paycheck work for you. Ask your employer which items
can be paid out of your salary pre-tax. Usually health insurance, 401(k)
plans, flexible spending healthcare accounts, daycare benefits and the
like can be withdrawn before Uncle Sam gets his cut. That means
savings for you.
When buying new items at a store, buy pieces
that can be put together in a variety of
combinations. Stick to similar colors and themes
so that each piece will work seamlessly. Consider multi-layered items that
can be worn with a cardigan or without; or go from the office to a dinner date
afterward. Remember, items that blend can be worn more often because
they wont stick out in the minds of others as something flashy.
Shoppers are often amazed at the wide variety of
items that can be purchased online. If a shopper
doesnt see something in a store for the price she
wants, she can comparison shop online.
Although she cant try on merchandise, with the
exception of some sites that offer a virtual model,
many online retailers offer free shipping on
returns.
Online shopping also takes the hassle out of
visiting several stores, finding parking and
dealing with crowds. Plus, a shopper can
purchase things on her own time, whether thats
early morning or after the kids have gone to bed.
BUYERS GUIDE July 20, 2011 EASYLIVING 05
Revitalize your
wardrobe on
a budget
Clothing styles change on
a whim according to what
trend forecasters see as
the it items of the
season. People looking to
keep abreast of certain
styles or just maintain a
fresh supply of different
wardrobe options may
find that replenishing a
closet can be an
expensive venture. But it
doesnt have to be.
Those without a set
budget may be able to
afford monthly shopping
trips to add new pieces to
a wardrobe. However, the
average person lives on a
tighter budget, and there
may not be as much
room for discretionary
spending on clothing and
accessories. According to
VisualEconomics.com, a
family of three making
about $64,000 per year
can expect to spend
roughly 4 percent of
those earnings on
apparel and services.
People interested in
refreshing their selection
of clothing more
frequently should
consider alternative
options than buying retail.
Here are some ideas to
think about.

Clothing so nice,
it gets bought twice!
A good way to socialize
and switch-up a
wardrobe is to host a
clothing swap party. Invite around 10 friends or family
members to be part of it. Be sure to have at least 2 or 3
of the same-sized people so that there wont be an
abundance of items to fit one person and not enough to
fit another. Shoes and accessories are also acceptable.
Set the rules for the event, where each person
is entitled to take as many items as she has brought.
Encourage guests to bring clean, gently used items that
are in good quality. Because this type of get-together
involves some advanced work of sorting through
clothing, be sure to give guests ample advance notice.
Have refreshments on hand and opportunities
to chat over styles and options. Whatever clothes are not
taken by others can be donated to charity.

Think about how Molly

A century ago, cars were
luxuries. Nowadays, cars are
necessities that few people
can do without. In many
cases, there are two or more
vehicles per household.
Purchasing a new car can be a
stressful process. Individuals dont
want to overspend, and dealers hope
to get the most money. Finding that
balance typically takes a little
negotiating, a process many people
dread.
Buying a car also involves knowing the
difference between invoice price,
sticker price and other terminology
salespeople use. Doing some
research before visiting a dealership
can make the negotiation process go
much more smoothly. It can also help a
person get a better price on a car or
truck. Here are some tips to follow.
Think about full price, not monthly
payment. Dealerships have financing
managers that can tweak numbers to
get a payment that fits a persons
budget. For those who walk into
negotiations saying they want to pay
$250 per month, the salesperson can
adjust the term of a loan or the interest
rate to realize this payment amount.
What he or she may not be doing is
lowering the price. Instead of shoppers
saying what they want to pay per
month, they should indicate what they
want to pay on the actual price of the
car.
Consider shopping the internet
departmentof the dealership. Many
car dealerships have a sales floor and
then a separate, behind-closed-doors
department geared toward internet
sales. These salaried salespeople are
interested in moving a lot of stock to
make the dealership money rather
than focusing on their own individual
commissions. Therefore, they may be
able to give knowledgeable shoppers
a more desirable deal. Furthermore,
most of the legwork when buying a car
can be done through e-mail or phone
calls, rather than haggling at a sales
desk.
Buy used. Cars depreciate in value
the moment they are driven off the lot.
In the first two years, some models
decrease in value by 25 to 40 percent.
Instead of paying the premium for a
new car, purchased a pre-owned
vehicle that is a few years old. Many
carry decent warranties, or an
extended warranty can be included in
the purchase.
Dont buy beyond your means. Its
easy for shoppers to be blindsided by
the glitz and glam at many
dealerships. A single person walking in
and buying a 7-passenger extended
SUV may be purchasing more than he
or she needs. Similarly, he or she may
get extra features that arent needed.
For example, many navigation
systems that come as extras with cars
are pricier than aftermarket, portable
GPS devices that are just as effective
and easily plugged into a vehicles A/C
adapter.
Take care of your credit rating.
Good credit means a better financing
rate. Very few people can walk into a
dealership and pay cash for their cars.
This means taking out a loan with the
financing department or an outside
bank. The better interest rate comes to
those with a higher credit score.
Individuals should keep track of their
credit scores and any blights on a
record. Not only will this help with
saving money on a car, it will affect
other purchases as well.
Price of car affects insurance, too.
Some of the higher-end vehicles or
sports cars come with a big ticket price
and also a higher insurance rate. If
the goal is saving money, look for a
reliable car with good safety ratings.
This will help reduce costs on the
vehicle as well as insurance.

Lets say you are about to take a long
road trip. Its one thing to have to clean
out your car ahead of time to create
enough space for you and your family
to be comfortable inside. But did you
know that you could also help them
breathe more comfortably
especially if some of them suffer from
seasonal allergies or asthma?
Breathing in dirty roadside air that
enters through the vents affects
everyone, particularly the most
vulnerable those that are
susceptible to respiratory illnesses.
If breathing clean air is a concern for
any reason, checking and replacing
the cabin air filter should be on every
vehicle owners list before taking a
long trip, said Chuck Kerrigan,
Director of Marketing for Purolator, a
major supplier of BreatheEasy cabin
air filters to the North American
aftermarket.
A new cabin air filter is designed to
protect the vehicles occupants from
breathing in air that is contaminated
with roadside dust, pollen, dirt, soot
and mold spores and even noxious
gases and odors.
Most motorists are not aware that
more than 80 percent of new domestic
and import vehicles sold in the United
States today come equipped with
cabin air filters, says the Car Care
Council (www.carcare.org/node/354),
an automotive consumer group.
And, it is even less likely that they
know about the important function
these cabin air filters perform, and yet,
they are inexpensive and usually quite
easy to replace, said Kerrigan.
Just ask your automotive technician
to show you an old, dirty one, said
Kerrigan. One look at a clogged cabin
air filter will convince you that theres a
great deal of dust, dirt, and other
contaminants floating around in your
cars cockpit. Breathing in that debris
can be damaging to the health of
anyone, especially those that suffer
from allergies or breathing problems.
Conventional wisdom suggests that a
cabin air filter be changed once every
year or every 12,000 to 18,000 miles
for maximum benefit. Regardless of
which was installed by the vehicles
manufacturer, you can replace a used
cabin air filter with cabin air filters like
Purolator BreatheEasy, which come in
two designs depending on the vehicle.
One is a particulate filter, the other is
an activated charcoal filter which also
has the ability to filter out unpleasant
odors.
Replacement is usually simple for do-
it-yourselfers or professional
technicians and many cabin air filters
come with detailed vehicle-specific
installation instructions. Most can be
installed in about 15 minutes. The
cabin air filter may be located behind
the glove box, under the hood near the
windshield, or under the dash.
Refer to your owners manual to see if
your vehicle has one. And if you find it
clogged, it is recommended you
change it.
If you are planning a long
road trip and are
particularly concerned
about roadside dust
aggravating asthma or
seasonal allergies in
you or your
passengers, check
your vehicles cabin air
filter to see if it is
clogged. Clean cabin air
filters protect everyone
especially those with
breathing problems by
keeping environmental pollutants from
entering a vehicles interior through the
vents. Automotive filter supplier,
Purolator, recommends replacing a
vehicles cabin air filter every 12,000 to
18,000 miles for maximum benefit.

Get the best price
when selling a home
The housing market has not yet rebounded to pre-
recession prices, when buyers seemed to be stepping
over one another to bid up the price of homes. Todays
sellers may be lucky to get asking price, with the reality
being a certain percentage below. However, that doesnt
mean sellers should accept bottom-of-the-barrel offers.
There are still ways to get the best price possible on an
offered home.
With sellers hoping to get the most possible for a home and buyers interested in spending the
least, its sometimes a battle of wills when it comes to hashing out a confirmed price in the world
of real estate. Sellers who wonder whether theyll struggle to get a good offer can hedge their bets
in the right direction by employing a few strategies.
What you see is what you get: Its difficult to change
first impressions. If a potential buyer pulls up to a home
that doesnt give them warm and fuzzy feelings
immediately, it may be hard to eventually sway opinion of
the home even if its pristine on the inside. Individuals do
judge a book by its cover, which means that effort should
be put into making a homes exterior as appealing as
possible. Landscaping should be neat and lush. There
shouldnt be any obstacles leading to the front of the home.
Items that look in disrepair should be mended. Curb appeal
does matter.
Use a real estate agent: Many people forgo this step,
thinking they can sell their home just as well without an
agent and not have to pay commission in the process. A real
estate agent is schooled in the process of negotiating the
price of an offered home. In fact, the more a homes selling
price, the higher the agents profit. Thats incentive right
there. Furthermore, agents know the average prices of
BUYERS GUIDE July 20, 2011 EASYLIVING 09
similar homes and can help a seller price
and market a property correctly. That
may add up to a faster sale (and a better
offer).
Price it competitively: Some sellers
think the higher they price their home the
more money theyll get for it. The fact is,
the longer an overpriced home sits on the
market, the less appealing it will appear to
buyers. Individuals looking for a home may
repeatedly see the listing and wonder
whats wrong with the home. Even if its the
best home in the neighborhood, it may be
seen as a red flag thats best avoided.
Give people what they want: Buyers
often prefer updated kitchens and
bathrooms. Most buyers out there are
not looking for handyman specials.
They want a relatively turn-key property.
A kitchen or bathroom that is an
eyesore can repel potential buyers.
Home shoppers may be more inclined
to go closer to asking price if some of
the bigger-ticket items are already
completed.
Dont be an open book: If a buyer
knows that time is of the essence or the
home is priced to sell, he or she may
sense that desperation, almost
guaranteeing a low-ball offer. Sellers
shouldnt let on too much about their
reasons for selling or make it seem like
theyll be in dire straights if the home
doesnt sell quickly. Selling a home
under duress is not likely to cause
prospective buyers to pony up.
Dont be afraid to counter-offer: A
buyer who is excited to get an offer on a
home in a slow market, but feels the
offer is below value, should definitely
counter-offer. While the buyer may not
accept the counter, he or she may make
another offer that is more to the sellers
liking.

Coax your lawn into a
THICK GREEN CARPET
Even with the concern about the use of
herbicides and pesticides, you can still
transform your lawn from looking
tiredandtatty into the outdoor oasis youve
always wanted. Some techniques for lawn care
are triedandtrue and others are brand
new.
We do indeed have a breakthrough in
herbicide technology, says Reinie Drygala,
Lawncare Products Manager for Clear Choice,
a leading name in innovative garden products.
Homeowners, gardeners and municipalities
are demanding products that are both effective
and environmentally responsible and Clear
Choice meets those demands.
If you look at the label you will see that the
formula contains up to 85 percent less active
ingredients as compared to other products
using the same ingredients. With unique
microtechnology we are able to create much
smaller droplets that can easily penetrate into
the targeted weed. Clear Choice works on up
to 60 different varieties of broadleaf weeds,
killing them quickly while being friendly to your
lawn.
Fertilize: Follow gardening
advice and feed the lawn with
nutrients four times yearly:
two in spring, and
two in fall.
Weed control: Use an
approved herbicide spray that
is formulated to target the
weeds without killing the
grass. Information at:
www.todaysclearchoice.com.
Patch Repair: Fix bare spots by
overseeding, a process of
planting grass seed directly into
the soil of an existing lawn. First,
rake, aerate, and cut the grass
short; on patchy spots spread a
moist layer of lawn soil;
disseminate grass seed over the
soil; water and keep moist for
several weeks while the new grass
grows.
Aerate: A lawn
needs air, so do rake
away the leaves,
twigs and debris.
Or, take it a step
further at the roots
with core aeration
for stronger, longer
growth to
underground
rainwater.

Incorporate healthy beverages into your diet
to improve overall health and not hinder
weight-control plans.
People have long been told
by doctors and health experts
that the foods they eat have a
direct correlation to personal
health. But the beverages
individuals choose to drink
could be equally as
influential. Choosing the right
beverages can fit with any
nutritional plan.
A study in the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition
indicated that around 37
percent of individuals total
daily liquid calories come
from sugar-sweetened drinks.
In addition, these sugar-
sweetened drinks could be
more likely to cause obesity
than fatty foods.
Another health topic of
interest lately is probiotics for
promoting health. Probiotics
are healthy bacteria that work
in concert with the digestive
tract to improve overall
digestion and boost immune
system function. Probiotics
can help with a number of
digestive ailments, including
constipation, diarrhea,
stomach ulcers, irritable
bowel syndrome (IBS), and
acid reflux.
Also, research indicates that
70 percent of the immune
system is located in the
digestive tract, which means
probiotics can benefit other
parts of the body, too. The
intestines are necessary for
absorbing important vitamins
and minerals and weeding
out wastes. When they are
not working properly certain
conditions may arise, such as
vitamin deficiency, fatigue,
and susceptibility to illness.
There are a number of foods
today that contain probiotics
or prebiotics dietary fibers
that stimulate the growth of
probiotic bacteria in the
stomach. Now there are
beverages, such as those
from PRE Beverage
Company, that have these
helpful bacteria boosters, too.
Cutting back on unhealthy
beverages and replacing
them with better ones can be
one way to get fit and feel
great. But where to start?
First, a person can take
inventory of the types of
beverages he or she drinks
on a regular basis and make
some easy switches.
Choose zero-
calorie drinks.
Hot or cold, tea is calorie-free when
consumed without added sugar or milk.
Coffee can be this way, too, if you skip
the cream and sugar. Of course, water
is the go-to beverage of choice if a
person wants to cut out liquid calories
but there are other options, too.
Zero-calorie, probiotic-enhancing
beverages sweetened with all natural
Stevia leaf extract were recently
announced at the Natural Products
Expo West in Anaheim, California. The
refreshing drinks are available in
several flavors to appeal to any palate,
including Pomegranate Blueberry,
Cranberry Raspberry, Pomegranate
Yumberry, and Peach Mango.
Furthermore, the drinks, from
companies like PRE Beverage, contain
all-natural prebiotics. These beverages
can be a tasty addition to anyones diet
and a viable alternative to calorie-laden
drinks.
Its important to remember that
beverages play a big role in personal
health. Choosing low-calorie, healthy
drinks is a way to maintain a healthy
weight while simultaneously boosting
general well-being.
The average
person swallows
400 calories from
liquids each day.

Relaxation Awaits You....
Stress is something that is a part of
most peoples lives, but it doesnt have
to be an overwhelming factor. With a
few simple stress-relief techniques,
individuals can feel calmer and
healthier.
Stress has become a daily part
of peoples lives. Despite its
detriments to health and well-
being, stress seems to be
something most people cant
shake. Increasing the number
of relaxation tools around the
house may prove effective at
reducing stress.
Pick any number of surveys
and youre likely to find that the
general public is stressed out.
A survey by Northwestern
Natural Life indicates that 40
percent of workers report that
their job is very or extremely
stressful. A National Health
Interview survey indicates that
75 percent of the general
population experiences some
stress every two weeks. Forty-
two percent of people
questioned by an American
Psychological Association
study found that stress has
increased in the last few years.
Considering more than half of
all Americans are concerned
with the level of stress in their
everyday lives, the following
steps to reduce stress might
be very helpful to millions of
people across the country.
Hot Tub
Water, heat and massage
therapy as provided by a hot
tub can alleviate many of the
body strains caused by stress.
Raising core body temperature
for 15 minutes around 90
minutes before bed has been
shown to induce a more restful
sleep. Heat also dilates blood
vessels to increase blood flow
to sore or damaged tissue. In
addition, water provides
buoyancy that reduces strain
on muscles and joints. Add the
gentle massage from spa
bubbles and the body is
relaxed. This, in turn, can help
turn off the mind and facilitate
feelings of ease.
Swimming
A pool, much like a hot tub, can
foster feelings of relaxation.
Swimming combines the
stress-relief of water with the
benefits of exercise. Daily
swimming can shake off the
stress of work and family life.
Massage
Few things can reduce stress
as much as the feeling of
human hands working the
kinks out of tense muscles.
Massage can alleviate pain,
reduce anxiety and may even
improve immune system
function. There are many
different types of massages
available. A person can
certainly invest in a massage
table for home and have a
spouse or family member do
the massage. However, most
prefer to visit a spa or
rehabilitation center and rely on
a trained professional.
Exercise Equipment
Having a stationary bike,
treadmill or elliptical trainer in
the home can entice people to
get moving. Exercise is a
known mood-booster. In a
2007 study at Duke University,
exercise was shown to reduce
major depression as well as
standard antidepressant
medication. Stress and
depression are often linked.
Exercise releases endorphins
into the body, which can banish
the blues. Other studies have
shown that as little as ten
minutes of brisk walking raises
the mood and increases the
energy level of people for up to
two hours after the walk.
Alternative Therapies
Everything from accupuncture
to aromatherapy to music
therapy can be tried in an effort
to staunch stress. Following in
the footsteps of Eastern ae
effective at calming the mind
and the body. Look for local
classes where these activities
are offered, or simply try them
at home.

Cultivate your own bounty of vegetables
It only makes sense to turn a little patch of your
property into a personal supply of organic food.
Quality and costcontrol are the top reasons to do
it and avid gardeners will tell you that there is a
special kind of joy in planting, growing, picking and
serving the freshest produce possible.
Today, approximately 30 percent of residential
homes in North America cultivate a vegetable
patch and most will tell you that the growing
season can be full of surprises. Sometimes, the
winter will leave much more moisture
in the ground than the year before, but other times,
drought will hamper your harvest and so will heat,
insects, weeds and plant disease.
Insects and disease can be a serious problem
when growing vegetables, says Reinie Drygala,
Products Manager for PureSpray Green, a leading
name in innovative garden products. If
uncontrolled, they will destroy your prized
collection of vegetables and flowers. The question
is how do you effectively deal with these pests and
still use a product that you can feel good about
when it comes to your impact on the environment?
Our researchers experimented tirelessly to
produce a horticultural spray oil for yearround
control of insects and disease, Drygala
continued. The resulting
PureSpray Green is an
allinone formula for use in
organic gardening and allows
gardeners to feel good about
spraying it on flowers, fruits,
vegetables, shrubs and trees.
The sister brand Clear Choice is
also a breakthrough in herbicide
technology for controlling weeds
on lawns and walkways.
Here are a few more quick tips to refresh your
startup skills in the vegetable patch:
Clean up: Clear your patch by
removing grass, rocks, or other debris.
Till the soil: Add at least 6 centimetres
of new vegetable garden soil to provide
nutrients, improve drainage, and to
promote strong root growth.
Plant at the right time: Early season vegetables
include broccoli, carrots, lettuce, peas,
and spinach. By early June, you can plant the
warmweather vegetables like corn, tomatoes,
cucumbers, and peppers.
Prevent weeds: Put a layer of mulch
around the plants
Control pests and disease: keep an
organicapproved spray handy for insect and
disease control. Information at:
www.todaysclearchoice.com.
Water: Keep seedlings moist by
watering regularly.
Harvest: Your bounty should grow
quickly from seedlings to a full harvest
in less than 60 days.

Cheese Can
Be a Part of a
HEALTHY DIET
It is certainly hard to deny
the appeal of cheese. On top of
a burger, cheese makes every bite
better. Mixed into pasta, it can turn the
average dinner into a feast. And what
child (or child at heart) doesnt enjoy a
satisfying grilled cheese sandwich
every now and then?
Despite the delights of cheese, the
most common varieties provide on
average 80 or more calories and
roughly 7 grams of fat per ounce, which
can make it a luxury for those watching
their weight. Cheese also can be high
in cholesterol. For example, just 1 cup
of whole milk ricotta contains 125 mg of
cholesterol. But when individuals turn to
all natural kefir (labne) cheese, they
dont have to feel guilty about their love
of all things cheesy.
Cheese-lovers can look to a creamy,
delicious cheese that isnt as well
known as the mozzarellas or bries out
there, but just as satisfying. Whats
more, it can be a part of anyones
healthy diet.
Although a staple of traditional
Mediterranean diets for generations,
many Americans are unfamiliar with all
natural kefir cheese (labne).
Traditionally labne (often spelled
labneh) is made by draining whey
from slightly salted low fat yogurt. The
result is a thick and creamy spreadable
cheese that is a healthier choice for
cheese lovers monitoring the fat and
sodium in their diets.
Over the past several years there has
been a great deal of interest in
Mediterranean cuisine due to its well
established health benefits, says
Rostom Baghdassarian, COO of
Karoun Dairies. The advantages of
including antioxidant-rich fruits and
vegetables and high fiber pasta and
rice in our diets are well known, yet all
natural kefir (labne) cheese is still one
of the best kept secrets of the
Mediterranean approach to healthy
eating.
When used in recipes, all natural kefir
(labne) cheeses add a smooth creamy
texture to marinades for poultry or lamb

Cold weather impacts more than the environment. Just
as the landscape seems weary and brittle when
covered in snow and ice, and animals have been
sequestered in hibernation, cold weather can also take
its toll on the human body.
Individuals who experience arthritis or joint aches and pains
from jobs and past injuries, may have their symptoms
exacerbated when the temperature is brisk. Rebounding once
the weather warms up may require gradual changes and a
smart strategy, including natural pain-relief products that dont
carry the side effects or stigma of prescription meds.
A few years ago I slipped and broke my ankle that required
two surgeries and repair with several pins and a metal rod,
says Jeanette S. The stiffness that still occurs in my ankle can
be uncomfortable, particularly when Ive been inactive for a
while. The pain also deters me from participating in many
activities even when I feel like getting outdoors.
More than 40 million people in the U.S. have arthritis, according
to reports from the organization, Caring 4 Arthritis.
Osteoarthritis, or the gradual degeneration of cartilage
between the joints that results in pain and stiffness, is the most
common form of arthritis. While arthritis can be hereditary,
many cases of osteoarthritis are due to repetitive motions or
injuries to specific joints from work-related tasks or sporting
activities.
Many other people experience joint pain as a side effect of
aging or a past injury. Becoming active again come spring or
summer, or directly after recovering from an injury, may not be
as simple as getting back on the figurative horse. Arthri-Zen
Relief, the all-natural solution that helps men and women fight
pain and muscle discomfort, offers these tips.
Talk to a doctor first. Before beginning an exercise regimen
or joining a sports team, its important for people to mention
their plans to a doctor, whether a general doctor or a specialist,
such as an orthopedist. He or she can advise which activities
may prove beneficial and which may complicate injuries or pain
issues.
Begin gradually. After spending time cooped up indoors as
a relative couch potato, one might be inclined to hit the ground
running. But muscles and joints that havent been worked out
in a while could be more sensitive to injury. People can start
with several minutes of stretching and work up to their former
activity levels over the course of a several weeks. An avid
runner may want to begin by walking briskly or shaving his or
her 5-mile run down to 2 miles and working up.
Pay attention to pain. While any activity that pushes the
body can result in some soreness, particularly if a person is
out of shape or has been out of the game for a while, these
aches and pains should be minor and alleviate after a few days.
Any pain that is sharp or debilitating could be the sign of an
injury and should be brought to the attention of an expert.
Other aches can be treated with products like Arthri-Zen Relief
Cream and Capsules, an analgesic cream made from a
clinically tested proprietary herbal blend of juniper, goldenrod,
dandelion, willow bark, and meadowsweet, all of which are
delivered with a low level of menthol and wintergreen in a base
with aloe, shea butter, avocado, and grape seed oil. It can be
used to provide fast relief to hot spots.
The capsules contain the same herbal extracts, which help
interfere with the transmission of pain signals. For example,
juniper blocks the production of compounds that make pain
receptors more sensitive. Meadowsweet and Willow Bark
contain a variety of salicin compounds that have a pain-
relieving effect without side effects or allergic reactions. The
capsules were carefully tested on people suffering from severe
arthritis pain and are clinically shown to relieve joint and muscle
discomfort.
Remember, many activities constitute physical exercise.
Just because a person is going to mow the lawn or do some
gardening now that the weather is warmer doesnt mean he or
she should start out at a break-neck speed. Like jogging or
heading to the gym, mundane activities such as tilling soil or
Dont let muscle and joint pain
foil plans to get active this warm-
weather season.
scrubbing winter grime off of decks
can get the heart pumping and push
the body. Go slowly and build up
gradually just as with any other
exercise.
Try low-impact activities. When
the weather gets warmer it is a great
time to head to the water to get daily
exercise. The buoyancy offered by
the water takes the strain off of
muscles and joints and provides
subtle resistance. Swimming and
water aerobics are a great way to
stay in shape in a low-impact way.
As an avid runner, I know what its
like to want to get outdoors and be
active when the weather warms. But
when past injuries are likely to cause
pain, I need something to keep it at
bay or risk compromising my
workout, offers Gillian C. I
turn to Arthri-Zen Relief cream to
reduce discomfort after my runs
and workouts. It is the only product I
trust.

Smart Ways to
Spring into
ACTION
A cluttered home is one that is typically
filled with memories. However, as the
years and the memories pile up, clutter
can take over a home. When that
happens, residents can feel
uncomfortable and boxed in. Clutter has
even been linked to mental health
issues, most notably depression, as
some mental health professionals
theorize that clutter indicates a
preoccupation with the past and possibly
a dim view of both the present and the
future.
Those who dont have an issue with
clutter might find it difficult to understand
just how difficult it can be to address. But
removing clutter is more than just boxing
things up and leaving them at the curb.
To clear a home of clutter, men and
women should consider the following
tips.
Enlist a friend to help. When
people work alone to conquer clutter, the
process is far more likely to draw out.
Thats because individuals will likely find
a reason to keep everything they have,
making decisions on each and every
item very difficult. Enlist the help of
friend who can help decide if an item
should be kept. Someone who isnt
attached to each knickknack and
keepsake can likely offer a more
objective opinion on items cluttering up
the home.
Dont kid yourself about
broken items. Clutter collectors
often have several items around the
house that they insist theyll get around
to fixing. When it comes to broken items,
men and women must be honest with
themselves as to the reality most items
will never be fixed. If an item has spent
years lying around the house in need of
patchwork, then its realistic to assume it
will remain broken. Whats more, if a
broken item like a candy dish has
already been replaced by a candy dish
that isnt in disrepair, its safe to discard
the broken dish.
Clean out the
file cabinet.
Clutter collectors
are often
renowned for
keeping
documents long
after its necessary
to do so. Though
some documents,
including tax
returns, boast
longer-than-
average shelf lives,
its not necessary
to retain all
personal and
financial
documents for
years. The rule of
thumb with respect
to keeping tax
returns is to hold
on to them for seven years. Additional
documents, including mortgage papers,
investment paperwork and other
extraordinary documents, should be
held on to as well. But theres no reason
to hang on to documents like utility bills,
phone bills and even bank statements
for several years. Cleaning out the file
cabinet could clear up a significant
amount of space. When disposing of old
documents, do so with a paper shredder
to increase security.
Embrace recycling. One way to
turn clutter into a positive is to embrace
recycling. One of the items clutter
collectors commonly accumulate is
periodicals, be it newspapers or
magazines. For those who live in a
community with curbside recycling,
consult the local recycling center to
determine if they collect periodicals. If
not, arrange a time when these items
can be dropped off at the center.
Recycling old periodicals is good for the
environment and can help individuals
living in clutter quickly and easily clear
out a significant amount of it.

fame, is the perfect guide to help you
design a memorable date night.
Whether your budget is big or small,
the secret to a fabulous date is
making the extra effort to show
someone that you think theyre
special.
Light the Scene
Create a special atmosphere by
bringing out the candles. If large
pillars or candelabras are out of the
budget, simply mass inexpensive tea
light candles in small glass votives on
a table or around a room. In the world
of design, nothing sets the tone faster
than lighting. Wine by candlelight is
an easy go-to for any date night.
Make It a Tradition
Uncork a great bottle of wine, and
toast the person youre with by telling
them how special you think they are.
Im a fan of Rutherford Hill Merlot
from Napa
Valley,
which was
served at my
wedding. Try
writing your toast
ahead of time and
reading it to your
date. It really shows
that you put some
thought into the
special moment,
which is what
matters most!
Then date the
cork from that
night and tuck it
away, or put it on display to start a
new tradition. I have a collection of
corks marking special date nights in a
glass box on my coffee table. Putting
them in a footed glass bowl is a great
way to feature the corks, as well.
Create the Perfect Pair
If dinner is part of your date night,
make a dish that you know is special
to the one you love, and serve it with
a wine that pairs perfectly
(www.uncorked.com has an easy-to-
use wine pairing guide). Dont forget
to bring out the fancy table settings, if
you have them. Make date night the
special occasion you have been
waiting for by pulling out the good
stuff.
Add a Thoughtful Touch
Since money and time are tight for
most of us right now, inexpensive
takeout and a mixed bouquet of fresh
flowers can make a simple date night
feel like a special occasion. These
kinds of bouquets are usually under
$10 at most grocery stores.
Remember, its making the effort that
counts. If you are near a grocery
store, pick up a bouquet of their fresh
cut roses. They are a serious bang for
the buck.
Invite the Crew
If getting a babysitter for date night is
a problem, include the kids, and let
them read a list out loud of all the
reasons that Mom loves Dad, and
Dad loves Mom. All the while, Mom
and Dad get to sit back and enjoy a
glass of Rutherford Hill.
The right bottle of wine is
an essential element for a memorable
date night.

Outdoor get-togethers typically make
for memorable affairs. Be it a picnic in
the park, a backyard barbecue or a
tailgate in the parking lot at the big
game, fresh air always seems to add
more fun to the festivities.
As fun as such soires can be, hosts
and guests alike know theres no limit
to the fun that can be had when
getting together with friends and
family for some outdoor revelry. Hosts
hoping to enliven their outdoor
entertaining can employ the following
tips and let the good times roll!
Take the indoors outside. Hosting
a party indoors certainly has its
advantages, not the least of which is
the host of amenities a homes
interior boasts that the backyard and
the local beach simply cant offer. The
Best of Times Bar & Entertainment
Center (www.bestoftimesusa.com)
enables hosts to set up a bar for
guests within minutes. Easily set up
anywhere in less than five minutes,
this patented, professional-quality bar
enables hosts to bring the fun of the
family bar outdoors.
Designed to fit in the width of a
parking space, this bar &
entertainment center wont take up
much space,
leaving
preciou
room for the
all-important
Wiffle ball
games and
backyard
badminton battles. Each L-shaped
unit features four padded barstools,
an optional side table and a UV
protected umbrella that wont fade in
the sun. Made with durable
countertops, each bar includes a bar-
level shelf, ample storage and a
drop-in waterproof cooler that keeps
as many as 18 cans or bottles icy
cold.
Make it a musical affair. Music
often sets the tone for a party,
whether that party takes place inside
or outside. Hosts should choose
music that lightens the mood and
encourages guests to relax. When
hosting a backyard barbecue,
encourage guests to bring their own
instruments and, if any friends or
family members are in a band, invite
the band over to perform. Though
public parks and beaches might
frown on loud music, bring an
acoustic guitar along and keep things

low key. If the party is aligned with a
specific holiday like Independence
Day, be sure to include some patriotic
tunes in the evenings playlist.
Give the festivities a theme. Hosts
can set their soire apart from other
gatherings by choosing a theme for
their next outdoor party. Easily
customized with interchangeable
image wraps to match any dcor,
an outdoor entertainment center can
fit right in with any party theme.
When hosting a themed party,
encourage guests to get in the spirit
of things by wearing theme-
appropriate attire. For instance, when
hosting a summertime luau, dress up
the entertainment center with a
beachside tiki dcor and encourage
guests to wear their favorite Hawaiian
shirts.
Become the talk of the tailgate.
Few activities are as fun as the
pregame tailgate in the parking lot
before the big game. Veteran sports
fans know a good tailgate is more
than just a place to gather before the
game. A tailgate is a great opportunity
to meet fellow fans and express your
love for the team. The outdoor
entertainment center takes that one
step further for football fans
determined to show just how much
they love their favorite team. Fans can
now celebrate the exploits of their
favorite gridiron greats by decorating
their portable bar and entertainment
center with any of 32 custom NFL
designs. Whats more, the entire
system fits in a wheeled bag thats
easy to transport, ensuring everyone
can still fit in the car and catch the big
game in person. Once your tailgate
becomes the talk of the parking lot,
consider adding additional barstools
for all those new friends as well as the
side table, which makes a great place
to prepare and display all that
delicious BBQ.
Set up for safety. While outdoor
gatherings are all about fun, hosts
should always remember to keep the
safety of their guests in mind.
Encourage guests to choose
designated drivers and be sure to
have the phone numbers of local taxi
companies nearby in case any guests
need a lift home at the end of a fun
night.
