Wernher von Braun, a German-born American engineer.

March 23 1912-June 16 1977 rocket developer champion in space exploration probably astronomy/physics rocket science/space flight German worked for the German army in 1932 Leader of the Rocket team which developed the V 2 ballistic missile for the Nazis in world war II Born in Wirsitz Germany Died in Alexandria Virginia USA

Name: Wernher von Braun Birth date: March 23 1912 Death date: June 16 1977 Where born: Wirsitz Germany - a town in the eastern German province of Posen Where died: Alexandria, Virginia Education: His mother was a great influence as she was an amateur astronomer especially after she gave him a telescope as a gift. Before he attended Hermann Lietz School at Ettersburg Castle, he was very good in languages but failed physics and maths. But during his time at the school, he became interested in astronomy and overcame his failures. He was also fascinated by the theories of space flight and Herbert Oberths book, The Rocket into Planetary Space. Wernher von Braun then enrolled in the Charlottenburg institute of technology in Berlin and became and active member of the Society for space travel. Area of science: mostly Physics a bit of astronomy Major contribution: V 2 missile rockets (developed in 1936) used in world war 2 first operational liquid fuel rocket Why did the scientist carry out his research: He was fascinated and deeply interested in the engineering of rockets and he wanted to create and improve rockets. And also he was appointed to build rockets for world war 2 when it was hitlers time so if he didnt develop it, he would have been imprisoned. How did your scientist make his discovery and what skills did he use: He carried out more research and then developed the V 2 rocket. He used his skill in engineering rockets and his skill in physics. Briefly describe the effect on society of your scientists discovery: The German V-2 rocket killed an enormous amount of people in WW2 . Also, it was the basis of the U.S. ballistic missile and the first liquid fuel rocket. If Wernher von braun had not invented the V-2 rocket, liquid fuel rockets might not have been used now.

Wernher von Braun 23 March 1912 16 June 1977 German born American rocket engineer Mother was great influence in education as she was an amateur astronomer esp when she gave him telescope Hermann Oberths book By Rocket to space enable him to master trigonometry+calculus therefore understanding physics of rocketry Joined German Rocket Society AKA VfR Verein fur Raumschiffarht Ph.D. in physics on July 27, 1934. (22)<doctorate of philosophy> many people killed in WW2 by V-2 developed 1st ballistic missile w/out contributions, we would have no ballistic missiles which would mean not that much people would die also, in WW2 there might not have been that many people killed

Hermann Lietz school in Ettersburg castle funnily enough was not very good in physics and maths at first but then got interested in astronomy and overcame failures

Fascinated by space flight physics , astronomy 1st ballistic missile, Saturn 5 rocket took America to moon Carried out research cuz of his interest and also cuz he was working for german military and if didnt, imprisonment made discovery by researching used skills rocket science+enthusia. but overall, von brauns impact on society is the development of the 1st ballistic missile, V2 rocket, which was the basis of many modern day ballistic missiles
