Chapter II The Company By the time they got to the hotel, Bobby had started recovering, and soon

it all came back to him with unsuspected clearty. They went up to the room. Here we are Bobby, I hope you like the suite I picked for you. Now Id suggest you rest, you had a long day, but I imagine you are assaulted with questions. Let me be clear, there is in fact, a clause of confidentiality whcih I even have to abide. For the next seven days, if you agree to stay, you ll be under a strutiny that you could not possible imagine, youll be tested, questionned, challenged, I d lie if I said it ll be easy, you may in fact feel quite tortured. Thata been said, I am confident and believe in you. I will now agree to answer three question, and will do so honestly for all is worth. But after that, and until next week, there will be no answers and youll have to make a decision. Bobby had indeed a whole lot of questions. He cleared his throat and realize it had regained some feeling. Why were they talking about my daughters? This company is not a regular company, we deal with matters that will affect the outcome of humanity. There are opposing forces which meet despite their will, because they exist despite their will. I represent the head of one of these forces. People we accept to become members have to devote themselves entirely to the project, without being interfered by family issues. In evaluaiting candidates, we are all aware of this, and so particularly careful. I dont fully understant. What matters? On that subject, I am afraid I ve said enough. Ok, then whats the deal, what do you want me for, what in on it for me? I am glad, Bobbly, thats one I can answer, your obligations are not yet designed, they will vary according to the projects. Youll get a generous salary, but foremost you ll get what all humans want the most, youll get extra time. Each answer does nothing but raise further questions. I dont like it. You have another one. Then you are free to choose, if you werent there would be no need for us. Thats a hell of a debate. What did that man said about me? I could not hear him. Joshua accepted you. I even got the feeling you reminded him of someone. Who? Me. Now Bobby I have to go. Get some rest. Then take a walk, its a beautifull day, enjoy yourself. Ill see you tomorrow. Oh, I forgot I left some litterature for you, please, read it carefully. Well discuss it over breakfast.

It was a little over six, when Bobby woke up. He took a shower. He remembered he hadnt phoned any of his daughters for a couple of days. He hadnt even checked his mails. He wasnt sure what to tell them. He felt compelled to keep silent about the recent events, partly because of his conversation with Goulgarov and partly because he feared to be taken for a madman. But he did not want them to worry, nor to start

making phone calls. He called Amika. Answer machine. Hi, its me, my phones not working, I am in London, at the...Hotel. Ill try later. Tell Anna I love her. It was indeed a beautifull afternoon. He hadnt been in London for a while. He liked London, it reminded him of home, without his past on it. He went to a pub, and as he ordered a pinte, he took of the booklet Goulgarov had left him.

Ethics.

Good and Evil. When we ponder on the issue of ethics, we talk about in terms of morality, rigth and wrong, decision making, duty vs impulses, wisdom, virtue vs vice. However it all comes down ultimatly to our conception of Good and Evil. What does it mean to us, but most importantly does this polarity exists a all? Ethics is politically correct for Morality just as right and wrong are politically corret for good and evil. Ethics is scientific, Morality belong to the realm of religion or so it seems. In reality there is no difference. Whether we choose a Godless or a Godfull universe makes no difference. Choice exists, (those who believe in destiny) forget that even the highest religious institutions could not survive without free will. But even for the stubborn who, as a child, hopes and prey for a master plan, I tell you this, the illusion of choice is the same as its reality. In fact there is no reality beyond the one you obey. We obey choice every day of our lifes. And when there is choice, there are possibilities and how do we choose among them is precisely the subject matter of Ethics. In other words, Morality deals with making decisions. And decisions may be good or bad. But decisions belong to the realm of action. Decisions are actions and to deny that it comes down to avoiding responsability. Morality is a live discipline. What is then most important, the choice or the reason behind it? This is one of the issues.
