Background
Smartphones with high quality camera features tend to be associated with adventurous lifestyles and extreme sports. For this purpose, consumer research was conducted in eight countries, creating insights into how people around the world take and share mobile photos in everyday situations.
The Research
The research was conducted as an online survey in eight countries, with a total sample size of 8077 people.
The Research
The survey was designed to provide representative results on a national level. Respondents were owners of mobile phones with cameras. Thus the results of those countries with a higher screen out rate, such as the US, are not generalizable to the entire population.
Global Highlights
Some aspects of mobile photography are popular everywhere.
Children (44%), friends (44%) and nature (41%) are the themes of most photographs
82% of the respondents have been in situations where they wished they had brought a camera along, but didnt have one. The most common reason to use a mobile phone camera instead of a stand-alone camera is to capture situations quickly on the move (70%).

Sharing mobile photos online is a global phenomenon.
46% of all respondents have uploaded pictures to social media platforms, and are very pleased to be able to share pictures online 33% find it rewarding to receive comments on their pictures, but 30% find that people sometimes upload embarrassing pictures

have uploaded pictures to social platforms (68%) have tagged (57%) and detagged (25%) themselves in their photos have uploaded a photo, and then removed it (34%) like taking pictures of children (52%) think it is fun to have a smartphone with an unusual colour (31%, second highest figure when compared with other countries)
The Philippines
On a global scale, in terms of taking and sharing smartphone photos, the openly sharing Filipinos are closest to the Indians and Chinese, rather than the moderately active Italians, Americans and Singaporeans or the very private Swedes and Swiss.

Not surprisingly, a significant amount (47%) of Filipinos say that sharing photos is either very important to them or, indeed, their main motivation for taking photos in the first place.
68% have uploaded pictures to social media
72% find it wonderful that people can instantly share their photos online, yet almost one third (31%) of respondents also think that people sometimes share quite embarrassing photos. 44% of 15-25-year-olds have uploaded a picture and then removed it after thinking it over, a habit that clearly decreases with age.

What Filipinos share online is quite clear: Pictures of friends (59%) and children (45%) are the most popular, but Filipinos also concentrate on themselves. Filipinos take (49%) and share (44%) more photos of themselves than respondents from any other country in the study.
As many as 84% of 15-25-year-old Filipino women are likely to photograph themselves with their mobile device, and 67% to share such pictures.

The importance of sharing photos online must have also raised the demand for photos of decent quality good camera quality is one of the most important features (or the decisive one) for 63% of Filipinos when buying a new phone. A mere 3% say it is irrelevant.

It should come as no surprise that 73% of Filipino women find it wonderful to be able to share photos instantly.

This means that, in addition to showing friends, Filipino photo albums online are very likely to be portrait galleries of the uploaders themselves. Filipino men in general, on the other hand, are more likely to upload pictures of nature (44%) to their social media profiles.

In Summary
Filipinos are very active in social media: they upload and tag pictures online and are very pleased that people can instantly share their pictures. Sharing photos is one of the main motivators for taking them in the first place and Filipinos often find it rewarding when others comment on the images they upload. Their activity online also occasionally leads to crossing limits, resulting in pictures being removed by users soon after they are uploaded.
