I am innocent! I protested. The usual treatment for a suspect was given to me. I was called into the lady wardens room and a complete search was done on me. Next, all my things in my bags and locker were searched. Of course, it was a very embarrassing experience. I am sure you know that all teenage girls have some personal secrets in their bags or locker which they would not want others to look at or to know. Finally, the wardens told me that there was no evidence against me but investigation would continue and I may be called up again later. I was curious why the warden suspected me. I was determined to know what exactly happened so I went to meet a warden and asked her why they suspected it was I who stole the money. Then the cat was let out of the bag! It seems that my best friend Sha framed me! She was the one who misled the wardens to believe that I had stolen the money. My heart was broken into pieces. How could she do such a thing? Why did she do such a thing? I regretted having such a person as a friend. I discussed this matter with other friends in my class and then I found out that it was all because of competition. Competition? Yes, competition, because she could not bear seeing me performing better than she does in our studies. Competition has led to jealousy and jealousy has led to destruction. Competition has led to the destruction of a beautiful friendship. Isnt that a tragedy? Im sure I am not alone in being a victim of unhealthy competition in residential schools among individuals. I believe there are better ways to improve our studies than through competition. Perhaps it all depends on the individual.
(Adapted from Little Mirrors) Why was the writer called to the wardens room? A B C D She was a witness She was a suspect She was a victim She was a culprit

Lets go very, very slowly so nobody can hear us. I dont think anybody could hear us, the captain said. Theres all this thunder I say, the thunder sounds funny in this area. It sounds just as if someone was cutting wood. No, youre imagining things! Umat laughed. Come on, my friend, be a man. Youre not afraid, are you?
