Dear Sir / Madam Vigo Landfill Site Restoration Current Situation Cory Environmental has received a number of requests regarding progress of the restoration of our Vigo landfill site and we are writing to residents in the immediate vicinity to explain the current situation. Cory is working to restore the site to a pleasant landform including areas of woodland and grassland with a variety of habitats to encourage biodiversity. A detailed restoration scheme for the site has been submitted to the Council for their formal approval. This scheme identifies our proposals for landscaping and subsequent aftercare of the restored site. We are currently in the process of incorporating a number of comments and suggestions into the scheme. Of particular note is a requirement from the Environment Agency that we provide calculations to show that the size of the proposed site drainage network will be sufficient to cater for future heavy rainfall events, taking into account climate change. In response to this we are taking advice from specialist drainage consultants and expect to receive this in the next two to three weeks. Natural England has commented that they would like to see an element of heathland established as part of the restoration. We have identified a layer of sandy material at our quarry across Boatmans Lane which may be appropriate for use in creating heathland habitat and we are currently awaiting analysis of samples of this material to determine its suitability. Again, this should be with us in the next two to three weeks. Once we have the above results, we will be in a position to amend our restoration scheme for the site, together with a number of smaller changes to reflect other comments received. Thereafter, we should be in a position where the scheme can formally be approved. All of the suggested changes we have received have no effect upon the approved final contours of the site. Meanwhile, by the end of this month, we are expecting to receive approval from the Environment Agency of the design for the final stages of capping of the site, which will then enable us to recommence capping and spreading of the restoration soils, initially concentrating on the Coppice Lane side of the site. We are continuing to bring in soils for restoration and these, as they are received, are being temporarily stored on site in readiness for spreading. The planting season begins in the late autumn at which time we plan to start the landscaping works. I hope this information provides clarification as to where matters currently stand and I can confirm we remain committed to implementing the restoration and landscaping works to the Vigo site. Kind Regards
