Programming of DR 2400 from Hach

How to program a new method (Merck Spectroquant Test Kits) into the DR 2400 photometer Background:
User Programs allow the addition of custom analyses to the DR 2400. Once you input the calibration curve and the other necessary information, the DR 2400 will remember your custom program and allow you to run it anytime you like.

Note: The unit mg/l is common in and need not to be selected. If a change is necessary please press enter and select mg/l. Then press OK

Chemical Form 1 Wavelength

Calibration Merck is providing the calibration formula and coefficients that you enter.

Press field 1 and press the empty field. Press Edit. Enter name e.g. NH4-N. Press OK Press Edit. This allows you to enter a numeric value for the wavelength. The wavelength must be between 365 nm and 880 nm. Enter 690 for 690 nm. Press OK Therefore scroll to Calibration and touch Edit. Touch and edit each of the coefficients to complete the formula. The C stands for the calculated concentration. The A corresponds to the absorbance reading. The a, b, c, and d correspond to the coefficients in the formula. For most of the Spectroquant test kits we are using linear formulas therefore you need just to enter a and b. In the file Programming data for Spectroquant test kits for DR 2400 photometer you can find all 4 coefficients. If c and d are zero you need not to enter these. You enter the calibration curve by entering the following calibration information: Press field a: enter e.g. 0.000 Press OK Press field b: enter e.g. 4.348 Press OK Press OK Select the maximum number of digits to display after the decimal point. Enter e.g. 0.01 press OK. If desired, enter the maximum value that you would like the program to read. Press Edit. Enter e.g. 8.00 Press OK If desired, enter the minimum value that you would like the program to read. Press Edit. Enter e.g. 0.20 Press OK

Timer 1 Timer 2 Timer 3 Timer 4

If desired, you may assign labels and durations for up to four timers. Highlight one of the timers and touch Edit to begin. The check boxes on the left of the screen enable and disable the timers. Change the time by entering the new information. Press time field e.g. 00:30 and enter the time. Enter 15:00. Press OK
Note: This field is not necessary to run the method. If you run more than one test kit at the same time it is more convenient to use an external watch.

Save Program

After entering the Program name, you can save the program by touching Save Program. Once you have entered the rest of the data in the table above, touch Save Program again, then touch Done. The program will now be listed in the list of User Programs, ready for you to use.
Note: Please keep in mind that the DR 2400 requires always a blank. This is the same procedure when using the Spectroquant test kits as if you would use a Hach test kit. In the list Programming data for Spectroquant Test Kits for DR 2400 photometer from Hach it is specified what kind of blank can be used for each individual parameter and measuring range.

Now you can start with the measurement of the Spectroquant test kits by using the DR 2400 photometer. When you want to run the programmed test kit just start the program. If you require any assistants or help, please contact our local Merck organisation or our local Merck dealer. You will find them in the most countries around the world.

Details about the Spectroquant test kits, which can be measured in the DR 2400 can be found in the Internet. The package inserts, which describe the handling of the test kits, can be found also in our Internet homepage. As we are introducing a lot of test kits each year we are updating the list Programming data for Spectroquant test kits for DR 2400 photometer regularly. Please have a look every 2-3 month into our Internet homepage under: http://www.merck-chemicals.com/photometry.
