If your wishing you could find an expert to work on your vintage home or new home than wish no more. Master craftsman, Steve Belton has been in business for more than 30 years. In 1981, he started Belton Carpentry. He was professionally trained, (apprenticed), from age 18 by old time artisans with strict rules and discipline. He was taught the "old school" method of careful perfection. He is state certified in restoration and specializes in early period restorations. To find this in today's market is a jewel. Steve Belton can timber frame a home cutting the the

trees himself and milling the lumber as he had done when he built his own home. He has extensive knowledge of roofing. Slate, wood or metal, Belton carpentry can tackle it . If you have seen the roof at Blair Academy or the grist mill (old library) on Main St. Blairstown you have seen Steve's work. Insley, Lock and East Halls at Blair Academy were all reslated by Steve. This was a huge job and one that takes an expert. The "Long House" in Hope NJ and The Inn at Millrace Pond, also in Hope NJ were important restoration jobs as well. These old buildings need experts to carefully

April Grace, a movie by Zandrak Productions LLC., is currently being filmed on location in Warren County. In Washington, at the Town Market; and in Blairstown, The BookNest, Gourmet Gallery, The Diner, and Main Street all have spots in the shoot. Some of the store owners, like Herman from BookNest, have parts in the movie, and local residents have enjoyed being extras in the film. The crew has been so friendly and work very well together and with the community. April Grace is a coming-of-age romantic comedy about two teenagers whose story appeals to all. The script was a semi-finalist in the USAs biggest screenwriting competition, Final Drafts Big Break Screenplay Competition. Andrew Hutcheson

chose to film in Warren County for its timeless, pastoral beauty and wholesome home-town appeal. He sees filming here as a way to give something back to the community in which he was raised. Community is a big aspect of the film and we wanted that to extend outside the story, Hutcheson said. Environmental policies are also important. Zandrak Productions is committed to treating the community that welcomes us and the environment in which we film with respect. That means going as green as possible and involving ourselves in local community, said Hutcheson. Zandrak takes a symbiotic approach, working with local businesses and farmers to support the needs of the production and hopefully setting an example other independent production

companies will follow. The film tells the story of Justin, a teenage writing prodigy and his best friend, Penny, a lovesick tomboy. Justins life takes a sudden change when the beauitful April Grace moves into town. Smacked with the pangs of first love, Justin sets out to write her a perfect love poem before she learns about his bizarre reputation. April Grace will be shooting in the towns of Washington and Blairstown through August 16th. It is intended for release into the film festival circuit next summer. If you are interested in being an extra in the film, email them at extras@ zandrak.com or visit www.aprilgrace movie.com for more information. Donations Needed for Veterans Traveling Tribute & Wall

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) will visit the Somerset County Park Commissions North Branch Park/County Fairgrounds on Milltown Road this fall. The AVTT centerpiece is the Traveling Wall, an 80-percent-scale version of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Donations are needed to support the set-up and maintenance of the Wall and related exhibits, according to John LeGates, president of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 452, which is hosting the event. Chapter 452 needs to raise an additional $15,000 for the AVTT visit, he said. All donors of $500 and over will be recognized in a souvenir program book. Any business, organization or individual that would like to donate may contact Veronica Finlay at 908-725-7815 or vernfi@gmail.com for further information. Checks made out to VVA Chapter 452 may be mailed to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 452, Attn: Traveling Wall, P.O. Box 999, Flemington, NJ 08822, with The Wall in the check memo line. Donations are taxdeductible. The wall will be open to visitors at the fairgrounds from 1pm, Thursday, October 13, through 3pm on Sunday, October 16. Related events will include opening and closing ceremonies, wreath-laying ceremonies and memorial services. Visitors will be welcome around the clock. Retired U.S. Army Col. Jack H. Jacobs of Far Hills, a Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipient, will be the special guest speaker on Saturday afternoon. The mission of the AVTT project is to travel the nation to honor, respect and remember men and women who served, and to pay specific tribute to those who gave all in that service. Since the tribute is mobile, it allows people to honor and respect veterans and active military personnel without having to travel great distances to do so. The AVTT presents several Cost of Freedom memorials and exhibits, including the Traveling Wall. Across its 370foot length, the wall contains every single name etched on the original. At its apex the memorial is an impressive eight feet tall. The traveling wall was completed in early 1998 and began traveling that year.

If you have an old home, barn or structure that is showing signs of damage, please don't wait until your repair costs are too great to save the building. Early prevention is the best way to handle these old structures. Steve

can help go through the issues to determine the best way to tackle the job, as he knows these old buildings well. He also does kitchens, bathrooms, new windows/doors, basements, porches, decks, barns, small and large additions, and retrimmed homes as well. He has many talented carpenters on his payroll, men whom he

trusts and are very good at what they do with an old fashioned work ethic. "They show up at work to give their best." Steve said, as I spoke with him about his projects. It is peace of mind knowing we still have artisans in this area that can be trusted to open up work done by our community founders and be able to complete the job knowing those original builders would be proud of the work done. If you have construction needs call Steve Belton for a consult and quote. Belton Carpentry's contact information is located in house shaped ad in this paper. Drive by the old stone library building on Main St., Blairstown and see his copper work and slate work. We appreciate that building and thanks to Steve it will be there for a long time.

Course Offers Help for Families of Mentally Ill

The Sussex County affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will be offering the nationally renowned family education course, Familyto-Family, in Sparta beginning Wednesday, September 7. This free course was created by NAMI to help parents, spouses, siblings, friends and significant others deal with the issues of living with and caring for a loved one who has a major mental illness. The illnesses covered include major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder. The course will address all the questions caregivers typically struggle with: What do I do if there is a crisis? How can I get a clear diagnosis for my relative? How can my relative and I communicate better? What local services in the community are available to us? What are all these medications for? What are the best treatments now available for my relative? How do I take care of myself in all of this? In addition, the course will explain the biological brain chemistry involved in mental illness, the array of medications used in treatment, and how to differentiate between mild and serious medication side effects. The course also includes two skill workshops, one in problem-solving and limit-setting; the other in helpful methods of communication. With increased insight and empathy, family members will learn to calibrate their expectations in line with the predictable stages of the illness process. They will also come to understand the stages of emotional reaction they themselves normally experience as caregivers. The comprehensive twelve-session course will be held at 104 Main Street, Suite 1C, in Sparta, on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-9:30, from September 7 through November 30. The course will be taught by a team of two trained mental health advocates who have learned to cope with serious mental illness in their own families. Anyone interested can contact NAMI-Sussex Executive Trustee Kathleen Fitzsimmons at 862-268-5846 as soon as possible. The course is limited to twenty people.

Project Self-Sufficiency Receives National Accreditation

Project SelfSufficiency has been authorized by the National Work Readiness Council to become a testing site for the Work Readiness Credential, the standardized testing administered to entry-level workers to ensure that they are poised for success in the workplace. The agency is one of only a handful of locations in New Jersey which has been authorized by the National Work Readiness Council to administer the 4phased test. There are 130 testing sites nationwide; the other New Jersey sites are located in Camden, Cranford, Hackensack, Newark, Union City, Vineland, and Westhampton. The National Work Readiness Credential was developed through a five-year, national consensus-building process that included businesses, unions, chambers of commerce, education and training professionals, and state workforce investment boards in the founding states of Florida, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, and the District of Columbia. According to the National Work Readiness Council, the economic output of the United States is now 75% service and service related industry driven. These service and service related industries range from hospitality to Information Technology consulting to contract Research and Development. There over 25 million entrylevel, frontline workers in the service economy. The purpose of the Work Readiness test is to ensure that employees have the skills to add value to the workplace as they assume entrylevel positions. Employees who pass the 4pronged test will be able to demonstrate to potential employers that they have competent skills in situational judgment, active listening, reading with understanding, and using math to solve problems. Project SelfSufficiency has provided workplace training, including computer skills and classroom instruction, for 25 years, noted Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director of Project Self-Sufficiency. Being certified as a testing site for Work Readiness Credentials validates the model we have used since our inception, and assures area employers that they can have confidence in the candidates trained by Project SelfSufficiency. Project SelfSufficiency is a private non-profit communitybased organization dedicated to improving the lives of low-income families residing in northwestern New Jersey. For more, call 973-940-3500.
