If the terminal is fitted with the Auto-Supervisor facility, the terminal will automatically enter Supervisor Mode either when you open the fascia on a front access terminal or the top door on a rear access terminal. When you close your terminal it will automatically return to Normal Mode. If you want the terminal in Normal Mode with the exterior of the terminal open, pull-out the button shown in the following figures.

If your terminal is not fitted with the auto-supervisor facility, your terminal will continue to run your application in Normal Mode when the fascia is open. In this case you must use the switch on the operator panel to place your terminal in the Supervisor Mode.

How to Operate the Security Enclosure Locks

The standard security enclosure will have a locking handle plus one lock (a primary lock), or two locks (a primary and a secondary lock). The possible lock types for primary and secondary locks are as follows:
q

Primary lock types: q Keylock q Combination lock q Combination lock with silent alarm q Combination lock with keylock q Electronic access lock (see Note 2 below) q Controlled access lock (see Note 2 below). Secondary lock types: q Keylock q Combination lock q Combination lock with silent alarm q Combination lock with electronic override.

Note 1: The make of lock (Standard, or Sargent and Greenleaf) fitted depends on the configuration of the terminal. The procedures for opening and closing the various types of lock are the same for both makes. Note 2: The Controlled Access and Electronic Access Locks are manufactured by Mas-Hamilton. The procedure for opening and closing these locks differs from the others.

Operating Keylocks

The pair of keylock keys supplied with your terminal have been pre-cut to a random factory-set combination. If one key should get lost, then you should get a new pair of keys and then change the keylock setting.

Unlocking a Keylock
To unlock a keylock, insert the key into the lock and turn it clockwise as far as it will turn.

Locking a Keylock
To lock a keylock, turn the key counter-clockwise as far as it will turn and then remove the key. Three variants of combination lock may be fitted to your terminal:
q
2

Operating Combination Locks

q q

basic combination lock - requires only the combination to open it combination lock with a keylock fitted in it combination lock with a silent alarm option.

All the variants of the combination lock are three-number precision locks and require careful alignment of combination numbers with the index. Turn the dial slowly and steadily. If, after turning the dial the correct number of revolutions, you accidentally turn the number on the dial beyond the index, the entire series of combination numbers must be re-dialled. You cannot turn the dial back to regain a proper alignment of the number and index, because each time a selected number is aligned with the index a revolution is counted. The procedures for unlocking and changing the combination on a combination lock are the same regardless of whether the lock is a primary or secondary lock.

Unlocking a Factory Set Combination Lock

If the combination lock is set at the original factory setting of 50, you unlock it as follows, dialling on the opening index: 1 2 3 If a keylock is fitted to the combination lock, insert the key into the lock and turn it clockwise. Turn the dial a minimum of four turns counter-clockwise and stop on 50. Turn the dial slowly clockwise until the bolt retracts. The lock is now open. Use the handle on the door to retract the door bolt and open the door.

Unlocking a Customer Set Combination Lock

If the combination has been set at a three-number combination, for example 36-82-44, unlock it as follows: 1 2 If a keylock is fitted to the combination lock, insert the key into the lock and turn it clockwise. Turn the dial counter-clockwise, passing the first number (36) three times, stop on the first number (36) the fourth time.

Turn the dial clockwise, passing the second number (82) twice, and stop on the second number (82) the third time. Turn the dial counter-clockwise, passing the third number (44) once, and stop on the third number (44) the second time. Turn the dial clockwise until the bolt retracts. The lock is now open. Use the handle on the door to retract the door bolt and open the door.
2

How to Operate the Silent Alarm

The silent alarm is triggered, if fitted, by adding 10 to the first number of the combination. For example if the first number was 34, dial 44 to trigger the silent alarm. Dial the next two numbers of the combination as normal, the combination lock will open as normal but the alarm will have been triggered.

Locking a Combination Lock

To lock the combination lock, turn the dial at least four complete turns counter-clockwise. If a keylock is fitted to the combination lock, turn the dial until 0 is in line with the opening index and then turn the key counter-clockwise and remove it from the lock.

Changing the Combination

Detailed instructions on how to change the combination of a lock are displayed inside the security enclosure.

How Errors Are Reported

How Errors Are Reported

The terminal uses an error reporting system to tell you how "healthy" your terminal is. The system not only reports error conditions, it also reports when a device, for example the card reader, requires to be replenished or replaced. To check the condition of your terminal follow your in-house procedures for using the System Application. From the System Application Main Menu select the Device Status List option. This lists all devices which require attention. The following information is provided:
q

q q

Device name - this is the name of the device that requires attention Description - this is a short description of the devices condition Attention - this indicates whether the device requires immediate attention now or will require attention soon. User Category - specifies what type of user (Operator or Customer Engineer) is able to deal with the situation. A category of CE may be required indicated that an operator may be able to clear the fault, but if the operator cannot clear the fault they should contact a Customer Engineer. Self Clearing - shows whether or not the condition is self clearing. Status ID - this is a unique number which identifies the condition. You can use the Status ID when reporting faults to a help desk.

For more information on error reporting and the System, Application, refer to the NCR publication, APTRA Self-Service Support, System Application User Guide (B006-0000-6167).

How Errors in the PC Module are Reported

The reporting system does not report on the operator panel if a fault has occurred on one of the boards in the PC module. The boards in the PC module are tested during power-up and at reset. If a fault is detected on one of the components of the PC module, the Light Emitting Diode (LED) will be illuminated red. Following is a summary of the LED colour code.

How to Clear Jams in the Cash Deposit Module

Take care when removing jammed currency. Do not attempt to pull out jammed currency as this may damage the unit.

The terminals System Application, Device Status List function will indicate that a jam has occurred in the cash deposit module. If, after following the procedures described in this section, the terminal still reports bills jammed in the unit, this may mean that the cash deposit module sensors need to be cleaned. In this case you should follow the procedures described in the section How to Clean the Cash Deposit Module Sensors, later in this chapter. To clear a jam proceed as follows: 1 2 3 4 5 Open the exterior of the terminal. If your terminal does not have the auto-supervisor option, press the switch on the operator panel to supervisor mode. Open the security enclosure. Rack out the cash deposit module. Check the System Application, Device Status List, then go to the relevant section described below.

How to Clean the Cash Deposit Module Sensors

A build up of dust on the various sensors in the Cash Deposit Module can sometimes cause the terminal to incorrectly report jammed bills. If, after clearing jammed bills, you continue to get device status messages reporting notes jammed in the module, this indicates the sensors may need to be cleaned. Follow the procedures described below to clean the sensors. You must take care not to damage the sensors during cleaning. Use a soft brush, cotton-bud or compressed-air canister to gently clear away any accumulated dust. Do not use abrasive material or cleaning fluid as these may damage the sensors.
