Business Analyst

Purpose
The Business Analyst is responsible for a full range of activities which ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the business unit. The Business Analyst will design and document workflow and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact operational effectiveness. The Business Analyst will track and analyze business unit trends and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact the unit. The Business Analyst will be a Project Manager and lead a number of key projects for the business unit and the company. The Business Analyst will be the functional expert on the specified application(s) he/she will be the sole point of contact between the business unit and Information Technologys Application Development Specialist.

Model Office - Model Office is a training tool that is intended to provide end-users with the opportunity to practice daily tasks using the new software in a test environment. The concentration during Model Office training is jobbased, not software-based, and the effort will be led by the functional lead and a representative from the impacted business area. All of the Model Office participants should have completed the appropriate application training prior to this stage. The representative from the impacted business area for the Model Office participants should provide any required proficiency metrics or expected standards. Job Description Business Analyst Ensures that all tests are conducted and documented according the standards agreed upon by the business unit and IT. Responsible for ensuring that all documentation accurately reflects the current status of changes and outstanding issues so that business requirements reflect application features and functions. Manages specific application quality assurance and help desk activities including the tracking of bug reports and change requests and ensuring their timely resolution. Ensures that all items follow the change management process and are entered and tracked through the change management software. Responsible for the overall success of testing, including results verification and release signoff. Establishes the purpose and deliverables of the test effort. Provides resource planning, management and resolution of issues that impede the test effort. Advocates the appropriate level of quality by the resolution of important defects; and working with the IT project manager to ensure the software development process has an appropriate level of testing. Coordinates groups of business personnel who test, evaluate and validate new functions and applications, and identify issues in software or services. Analyzes discrepancies in service or performance and makes recommendations for updates. Provides final signoff to the IT project manager to release code to production. Ensures continuing operational quality by documenting bug fixes and enhancements assigning tasks to developers, testing and releasing updates.
Training
Proactively assists with the identification of training and development requirements of the Business Unit. Presents findings, and works with Business Unit Leader and other personnel to design and implement training and development initiatives that will continuously upgrade the skills and capabilities of personnel in business unit and ICAT overall.

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Business Unit Leader and provides direction to exempt and non-exempt personnel.
Work Experience
Minimum 5 years experience in catastrophe insurance, including underwriting, marketing, business analysis and project management is preferred - Proven project management and leadership skills, including the ability to gather clear business requirements. - Proven ability to develop, document and maintain operational policies and procedures, including the designing and documenting detailed process flows, and the development of operational performance and quality metric standards and reports. - Proven experience working with Excel and developing and maintaining various analyses and reporting tools. Knowledge of Property and Casualty industry and insurance and underwriting rules and decision tree logic preferred.
Education
BA degree business or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience considered.
Computer Skills
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of MS Project. Knowledge of e-mail/scheduling software applications. Experience with underwriting software applications and web-based underwriting systems.

Strong mathematical aptitude. Strong organizational and time management skills.
Working Conditions
Physical Work Demands Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis. Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone. Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally. Mental Work Demands Regular and on-time attendance. Hours regularly exceed 40 hours per week. Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
