Preamble
The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) (formerly VRCE), Nagpur is one of the first six Regional Engineering Colleges established under the scheme sponsored by Government of India and the State Governments. The College was established in June 1960 and named after the eminent engineer, planner and statesman of the country Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Over the years, this Institution has gained recognition as an important National Institution in the field of Technical Education & research. Apart from imparting professional education at Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels, the Institute has been extending available expertise to various Govt./Semi-Govt. and private organisations through testing and consultancy works. The Institute also organizes short term courses and seminars for the benefit of those in the profession. The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology is enacted under NIT act 29 of 2007 by Govt of India. VNIT has a beautiful campus of about 214 acres near Ambazari Dam. All departments and laboratories are housed on the campus. Hostel accommodation for students as well as residential accommodation for teaching and non teaching staff of the Institute is available on the campus. The campus has retained and increased its green cover, rich in flora and fauna, and provides an attraction for bird watchers. Institutional Vision To contribute effectively to the national endeavor of producing quality human resource of world class standard by developing a sustainable technical education system to meet the changing technological needs of the country incorporating relevant social concerns and to build an environment to create and propagate innovative technologies for the economic development of the nation. Institutional Mission The mission of VNIT is to develop itself into an institute of world class reputation and advance knowledge and educate students in the areas of technology, science and allied disciplines. VNIT is committed to generate and disseminate knowledge and to maintain the highest standards of excellence. The institute motivates its staff to work at the frontiers of academic enquiry and enable the students to reach their full potential in an excellent academic and research environment. The institute empowers the learning teaching community to serve the changing needs of the society and nation and contribute effectively to improve the quality of life.
2. Programs Offered
The institute offers four year undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering and five year course in Architecture. In addition, the institute offers full time (M. Tech), M. Tech (research) and Ph. D. programs. A three year Ph.D. program under QIP scheme is also offered in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering. The laboratories in various departments have excellent research and testing facilities. The institute has acquired highly sophisticated equipments for various Departments and new equipments have been added to various laboratories in the recent years. VNIT was selected as a lead institute in World Bank Project under Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP).

NOTE: (i) *one seat reserved for PWD (Person With Disability) . (ii) In addition to above, upto 5 seats (non-stipendiary) are available for sponsored candidates in all programs except Environmental Engineering. The seats under sponsored category in Environmental Engineering are reserved for Govt. of India, Ministry of Urban Development under CPHEEO scheme. (iii) Titles of degree other than mentioned in the Table-1 are not acceptable as qualifying degree and No equivalence certificate will be considered. (iv) If the number of admissions for any program is less than 5, the program will not be conducted for 2011-12.

Group-a: GATE qualified candidates: Candidates fulfilling eligibility criteria (Degree and GATE paper) as specified in Table 1 and securing valid GATE score i.e. GATE score more than or equal to the qualifying (cut-off) marks; are eligible for admissions to the stipendiary seats in the respective programs. All such candidates are required to submit their applications to the NIT-Tiruchirappalli for common admissions to full time M. Tech. programs for eight NITs including VNIT-Nagpur. For details visit NIT-tiruchirappalli site www.nitt.edu. (Please do not send your application form to VNIT-Nagpur). Further note that all these applicants will also be eligible for the institutional rounds of VNIT-Nagpur. Group-b: Non-GATE candidates: Candidates who fulfill eligibility criteria (Degree) as specified in Table 1 and having GATE score below qualifying marks or did not appear for the GATE examination. After completion of three rounds for Group-a candidates conducted by NIT-Tiruchirappalli, the institutional rounds of admissions will be carried out at VNIT-Nagpur for the left out seats of VNIT, if any. Candidates of group-b should submit their separate application form per department mentioned in Table-2 to VNIT-Nagpur for the institutional rounds. Candidates of Groups-b will have to appear for written test and interview as per schedule: Table-2. These candidates will not be eligible for the assistantship (stipend).
Group-c: Sponsored candidates: Candidates who fulfill eligibility criteria (Degree) as specified in Table 1. Group-c1: Candidates recommended by various ministries of the Central as well as State Governments, Govt. R&D Organizations and Public Sector Undertakings. Group-c2: Candidates from the industries and the teachers from private institutions with valid GATE score. Group-c3: Candidates from the industries and the teachers from private institutions without valid GATE score or did not appear for the GATE examination. Candidates of group-c should submit their application form to VNIT-Nagpur. Up-to 5 seats (non-stipendiary) are available for sponsored candidates in all programs except Environmental Engineering. (The Seats under sponsored category in Environmental Engineering are reserved for Govt. of India, Ministry of Urban Development under CPHEEO scheme) (i) The candidates must have minimum 2 years of full time work experience in relevant field in which admission is being sought, after attaining the qualifying degree/certificate, in a registered firm/company/industry/ educational and/or research institute/any Government Department or Government Autonomous organization. The candidate must submit the sponsorship cum experience certificate in the prescribed format along with the application form. (ii) Group-c2 candidates will have to appear for interview as per schedule: Table-2. (iii) Group-c3 candidates will have to appear for written test and interview as per schedule: Table-2. (iv) Candidates falling under sponsored category will have priority order as: 1. Group-c1, 2. Group-c2 and 3. Group-c3. (v) In case the number of eligible candidates under category Group-c1 exceeds the number of seats, merit list will be based on marks/CGPI obtained in the final year of qualifying degree. (vi) In the M. tech. programs of Electrical and Electronics & Computer Science departments, candidates of Groups- c1 and c2 are eligible (Candidates of Groups- b and c3 are not eligible, need not apply). Application Form To: Candidates of groups-b and c should submit the completed separate application form department-wise ( available on VNIT web-site and can be downloaded), along with the attested copies of the required documents and crossed DD of amount Rs. 500/- (non-refundable) towards processing fee drawn in favour of The Director, VNIT, Nagpur payable at Nagpur, addressed to Dy. Registrar (Academic), VNIT, South Ambazari Road, Nagpur-440 010 and must reach on or before 10/06/2011. Documents with application Form: Only attested copy of final & prefinal year marksheets, GATE score card and Sponsorship cum Experience Certificate, as applicable. Please also note that: 1. Candidates with valid GATE score / qualified marks are required to apply online to the NIT-Tiruchirappalli only. Their applications if sent to VNIT will not be considered. 2. 3. 4. No Separate interview calls will be sent to candidates. They should attend the written test/interview/admission as per the schedule given in this prospectus. Candidates must submit separate original application form per department with separate processing fees for seeking admission to M Tech Program offered by each department as given in the Table-2. Hostel accommodation is available on first come first served basis.

The merit list will be prepared on the basis of performance in the written test and/or interview with weightage ratio 70% and 30% in general. Candidates with score 40% and above in written test will be eligible for interview. The written test and interview are scheduled on 27th June 2011. Vacancy positions for 2nd Round and 3rd Round of admission shall be made available on website on 22nd July and 26th July, 2011 respectively by 5.00 P.M. However, any seat falling vacant before the start of admission procedure shall be made available for admission. Documents/Certificates at the time of admission (i) The candidates will have to produce all the following documents/certificates in original at the time of admission. a] GATE score card (For admission on GATE Merit) b] Qualifying Examination Degree Certificates c] Mark list of Qualifying Examination d] Mark list of Pre-Qualifying Examination, if (b) & (c) are not provided. e] Transfer Certificate/ Institute leaving certificate f] Sponsorship cum experience Certificate (for Sponsored Seats) g] Caste Certificate, as applicable for reserved category. For OBC candidate valid non creamy layer certificate is essential i] For Maharashtra State reserved category candidates, validity certificate is essential from the competent authority j] University Migration Certificate k] Demand Draft of required admission fees. (ii) Bring one set of attested photocopies of all above certificates as applicable in the same order. Please note thatThe candidate will have to be present personally for admission. Candidate absent for any round is eligible for subsequent round. 2. Candidates shall be called in order of merit. If a candidate is absent he/she will lose the priority. If such candidate reports late and if seat is available he/she shall be considered for admission at that instant. 3. The candidate shall be considered for admission only if he/she has all the relevant certificates mentioned in this brochure (see list above). 4. If the information written in Application form does not match with the certificates, the candidature shall be cancelled. 5. Admission Committee reserves the right to re-verify the eligibility for admission as per rules stipulated. If candidate is not eligible, the admission will not be offered. 6. Demand Draft and one set of Xerox copies of all certificates shall be retained by the Academic Section. The candidate has to sign the admission acceptance letter. Original GATE Score Card and TC is required to be deposited in Institute on or before 31st August 2011. Failure to which, the admission shall be cancelled. 7. Admission Letter shall be issued to the candidate with instructions to be followed. 8. Hostel accommodation is available on first come first served basis. Important Note: Candidates will be eligible for GATE scholarship as per their date of joining.

Insurance is compulsory to all students (hosteller and day scholar both) and premium towards the policy is collected at the time of admission along with above fee. This premium is valid for normal duration of program. Candidates reporting on the day of admission rounds must bring with them a DD of amount at column 3 above plus insurance premium (to be declared) drawn in favour of Director, VNIT, Nagpur payable at Nagpur. Fees will not be accepted in cash. Cheques will not be accepted. Note - Library deposit is taken at the entry year to program and is refundable on completion. Candidates are advised to keep 3 copies of PP size colored photograph. Hostel fees: For M. Tech. - I Semester students Boys hostel (singe seated room with twin sharing): Rs. 23700/- (Includes one year room rent and one semester food charges) Girls hostel : Rs. 23700/-(Includes one year room rent and one semester food charges) 1) The above fees are to be PAID IN ONE SINGLE INSTALLMENT at the time of reporting for odd semester of 2011-12. 2) The amount may be paid by DEMAND DRAFT / BANKERS CHEQUE only payable to THE CHIEF WARDEN, VNIT, NAGPUR and preferably drawn on SBI, VRCE, BRANCH, NAGPUR (Branch code :6702) or any scheduled Bank in Nagpur (please see other details from www.vnit.ac.in).
