SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS
(Communication Systems)
2.a) Define look angles of the satellite. Explain the procedure for
determing the elevation and azimuth angle calculation to
geostationary satellites.
b) Obtain the condition for the satellite to be visible and hence derive
the same for the satellite orbiting in the geostationary orbit.
c) Determine the eccentricity of the elliptical orbit of the satellite
whose apogee and perigee from surface of earth are 25000 km and
250 km respectively. Assume earth’s radius as 6370 km.
3.a) Explain clearly about altitude of satellite and give the mechanism
to control the altitude of the satellite.
b) What is station keeping and explain various methods through
which station keeping can be achieved.

7.a) Draw geometry of cassegrain antenna and explain how the gain of
the large antennas of the earth station is optimised.
b) Explain large earth station’s equipment with FDM/FM/FDMA
technology using simplified block diagram. Also, explain low noise
amplifier (LNA) and high power amplifier (HPA) in the above earth
station.
