Type your answers in RED below each question/prompt. 5 pts. each 1. Explain what the importance of the Rhetorical Triangle as described in your handbook. It helps writers keep the rhetorical situation in mind so they can remember the interaction among the writer, topic and audience.

Briefly describe three different prewriting techniques. Brainstorming-let thoughts tumble out either in conversation or on paper. Freewriting-just start writing and dont stop to worry about sentence structure or punctuation. Clustering-clustering establishes the relationships between words and phrases.

Describe what a writer does when revising a paper. Reread for content and corrections, perhaps three or four times and compare to other writings that may have been graded to remind yourself of any grammatical errors you may have made in the past.

Describe the difference between revising and editing. Editing is the fine-tuning process. You attend to the grammar, usage, punctuation, spelling, and other mechanics.

What is a comma splice? A fused sentence? How can these errors be repaired? A comma splice is a version of a run-on sentence. A fused sentence is a different version of a run-on sentence.

They can both be repaired by using commas or with a connector word such as the words and or but.

Define paraphrasing as applied to a research paper. A paraphrase restates information from a source, using your own words.

In a research paper, what should be cited? Everything.

Explain four reasons why plagiarism is wrong. It is unethical, can mean a lost learning opportunity, diminishes your credibility, and may result in serious penalties.

Describe the purpose of signal words and phrases in a research paper. To identify each source and explain its connection to what you are writing about.

10. Give three reasons for using a direct quote in a research paper.

They can serve as evidence, support, or further explanation. Use them when the writers words are especially vivid, memorable, or expressive. Use them when a paraphrase of the information would be confusing. Reflective Essay - 50pts. Write an essay that considers the following: Take some time to consider your experience in ENG 101 and, using the various writings you have produced and the comments and marks made by your instructor as a guide, discuss what you have learned about academic writing, in general, and your own writing, specifically, over the course of the semester. Describe how the use of technology in the classroom has impacted your learning in this class. What do you think could have been done to enhance your experience this semester? Thanks!
