DCV Wafer check valves

DCV wafer check valves

to prevent reverse flow . . .
The Spirax Sarco range of DCV wafer check valves provides an effective minimal maintenance free solution for the prevention of reverse flow in pipelines carrying most types of liquids, steam and gases. Designed to fit between two pipeline flanges, they provide a compact installation when compared size for size with conventional swing and lift type check valves. The Spirax Sarco range of DCV wafer check valves is available in a wide range of body materials from bronze to austenitic stainless steel and with seating options of stainless steel, viton or EPDM to match most applications. The DCV can be used in a wide variety of applications including: Hot and cold water system Sprinkler installations Steam and condensate lines Flange standards: BS 10 tables E and H; DIN PN6, PN10, PN16, PN25 and PN40; JIS5, JIS10, JIS16 and JIS20; ANSI 150 and ANSI 300. Process lines Heating systems Oil lines And in industries as diverse as: Chemicals Pharmaceuticals Ship building Power generation Food production Pulp and paper Textiles

Seat options in stainless steel, viton for oils and gases and EPDM for water. Designed and manufactured in accordance with BS 7438: 1991

Spring options: High temperature springs available. Heavy duty springs for boiler or gravity feedline applications. 2 No spring option for very low opening differential pressures. (Vertical upward flow only).

Typical applications
Steam boiler flooding protection
When boilers are shut-down and steam pressure lost, the head of water above the pump can cause flow through the pump flooding the boiler. The DCV2B fitted with a heavy duty spring and installed after the feedpump will prevent any gravity flow. Feedtank Boiler

DCV2B

DCV

Prevention of reverse flow

Installed after multi-plex pump outlets in water distribution systems to prevent reverse flow during auto changeover sequencing and stand-by use.

DCV

DCV

Vacuum breaker
Installed in 'reverse' mode, the DCV will act as a vacuum breaker. This will prevent any back syphoning of liquids damaging upstream equipment when the steam supply is turned off and the equipment cools.

Pipeline fitting protection

Prevents damage to pipeline fittings such as flowmeters, control valves and strainers which are susceptible to damage by reverse flow. DCV 4

How DCV's work

Spirax Sarco DCV wafer check valves are opened by the flow pressure of the fluid and closed by the spring when flow ceases and before reverse flow can occur.

Pressure loss diagrams

Pressure loss diagram with open valve at 20C. The values indicated are applicable to spring loaded valves with horizontal flow. With vertical flow, insignificant deviations occur only within the range of partial opening. The curves given in the chart are valid for water at 20C. To determine the pressure drop for other fluids the equivalent water volume flowrate must be calculated and used in the graph. Q xV Vw = 1 000 Vw = Equivalent water volume flow in l / s or m/ h Q = Density of fluid kg / m V = Volume of fluid l / s or m/ h Pressure loss information for steam, compressed air and gases are available from Spirax Sarco.

Installation
The design of the Spirax Sarco DCV wafer check valve allows installation between flanges in any plane and with flow in any direction. The only exception is when the DCV is installed without a spring. The unit must then be installed in a vertical pipe with upward flow. The unique cam design of the DCV1, 2 and 3 allows the various flange types to be accommodated by simply rotating the body to touch all flange bolts which automatically self centres the valve in the pipeline. The DCV4, 7, 8 and 9 use the body or cut outs in the body for location between the various ANSI standard flanges. These valves are not recommended for applications where heavily pulsating flow exists, such as close to a reciprocating compressor.
