Building a better life through greenways and trails.

The environmental, health, economic, and community benefits of trails for walking and riding.

Mayfield Village Greenway Corridor

Greenways are corridors of protected open space managed for conservation and recreational purposes. Trails are paths used for walking, bicycling and other forms of recreation. Why establish trails and greenways?

Greenways serve as natural floodplains. Trails and greenways are hands-on environmental classrooms.

To build a better life. Trails and greenways provide what many Americans seekclose-tohome recreational areas, community meeting places, educational experiences, natural landscapes and beautification. They help communities build pride by ensuring that their neighborhoods are good places to live where children can safely walk or bike to a park or school.

Trails and greenways provide countless opportunities for economic renewal and growth. Increased property value and tourism and recreation-related spending positively impact community economies.

Promotion of healthy living. Trails and greenways provide a safe, inexpensive avenue for regular exercise for people living in rural, urban and suburban areas.

In Mayfield Village, the Greenway Corridor will provide a safe walking and biking route from Center School on Wilson Mills Road to Parkview Pool, playgrounds, baseball and soccer fields, the Cuyahoga County Librarys new Mayfield Branch, and ultimately the North Chagrin Reservation of the Metroparks.
With funding assistance from NOACAs Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative and Transportation Enhancement Program, completion of the Mayfield Village Greenway Corridor is expected in 2012.

Greenways protect important habitat and provide corridors for people and wildlife.

Trails and greenways help improve air and water quality. Providing enjoyable and safe options for transportation reduces air pollution. Protecting land along rivers and streams prevents soil erosion and filters pollution caused by road runoff.

Greenways and trails help make communities more attractive and friendly places to live.
