We have selected the CIC Agri Businesses (Private) Limited as the business organization to our investigation. CIC Agri Businesses (Private) Limited is a subordinate of CIC, which contains all the agriculture related businesses that are carried out within the CIC Group. CIC Agri Businesses (Private) Limited is the only agriculture company in Sri Lanka that manages over 10,000 Acres of its own Farm land, works directly with over 20,000 rural farmers and produces a variety of Agriculture & Livestock products. CIC Agri Businesses works with a strong dedication of enhancing farmer incomes, improving the Rural Economy and contributing towards the Development of Agriculture in Sri Lanka with a view of transforming the island to a bountiful nation.

Legal Form of the Business

CIC Agri Businesses is a type of company that offerslimited legal responsibility to its shareholders but that places certain restrictions on its ownership. The major ownership restrictionsare: 1. Shareholders cannot sell or transfer their shares without offering them first to the other shareholders for purchase, 2. Shareholders cannot offer their shares or credit to the generalpublic over a stock exchange, 3. The number of shareholders cannot exceed a fixed figure (commonly 50). Thats why we conclude that CIC Agri Businesses is a Private Limited company.

Current Business Performance

CIC Agri Businesses involves in agriculture and non-agriculture business activities now a days. For instance we can indicate some of them as follows; 1. Fertilizer Businesses The company is providing fertilizer for tea, rubber, rice and other crops and plants as well (Eg: CIC Pohora)

2. Exports The company supply high quality agriculture products to the competitive markets, at the same time as ensuring philosophy of CIC Agri Businesses. 3. Seed and planting materials The company is providing quality seeds and planting materials to the farmers to improve the yield of their farming. 4. Agri machinery CIC Agri Businesses, doing a significant role in Sri Lankas Agriculture sector. It has introduced Agricultural Machinery following a tie-up with Siam Engineering, Thailand.

5. Agri Holiday Resort CIC maintains an Agri Holiday Resort in Hingurakgoda to promote agri-tourism which is a new concept in tourism.

6. Aqua Culture Fresh water prawns or Scampi (a large marine crustacean with a cylindrical body, stalked eyes, and the first of its five pairs of limbs modified as pincers) is a profitable business practiced in many countries in the region. CIC started demonstration ponds for scampi under technical partnership with the CP Group of Thailand. Fresh water fish farming also doing by themhere.

Hayles PLC  Hotels and Resorts They manage city hotels and highly function market resorts.  Aviation They own worlds leading cargo and passenger airlines.  Plantations They account for 5% of Sri Lankas tea production and 4.5% of the rubber production.  Chemicals They produce various chemicals such asinsecticides, fungicides, herbicides, vegetable seeds, seed paddy, seed potatoes, fertilizer, and agricultural equipment including sprayers.  Marine and energy services - Providing wide-ranging marine services.

Lankem  Hotels They manage Sigiriya Village Hotels Ltd., and Colombo Fort Hotels Ltd.  Plantations They own the Kotagala Plantations Ltd., Agarapatana Plantations Ltd., and Lankem Developments Ltd., for tea and rubber plantations.  Household items They produce Robbialac Paint,Mistox and some other items for household uses.  Chemical Mainly Lankem is a chemicals company. They produce insecticides, fungicides and herbicides.

02.3 Differences and Specialties of Products and Services of CIC Among Competitors
 For banana cultivation they use hybrid varieties. They use Cavendish banana variety. It is a world famous one. Therefore CIC Company has good export and local market for banana than others.  Their products havent diseases. CIC Company can confirm it by using their tissue culture practices. Because they have tissue culture laboratories. This facility is an advantage to them for survival in the market than other competitors.  CIC tractors have built with new styling and extra power than other type of tractors. Extra power makes all work easy, whether it is farming or transport. With these capabilities Shaktiman tractor leaves a mark on field and roads. New compact design, new styling with attractive in built head lamp than other tractors. Powerful Hi-Torque engine (Bharath-III environment friendly) New transmission and heavy duty gear box (8 forward & 2 reverse gear) Heavy duty clutch & sealed dry brake

They have papaya plantations in the island. They use Red Lady and Sun rice varieties under micro irrigation. Because they can produce high quality and tasty papaws than other papaya cultivators. Ultimately it is a benefit to customer. CIC Company has auditoriums for training and developing programmers to farmers. Their auditoriums have good infrastructural facilities and communication methods more than other competitors auditorium facilities. So that all farmers like to join with CIC Company. CIC Company has Agri Machinery display units. But other agriculture based companies havent that kind of big display unit. CIC Company has hybrid vegetable display units. They cultivate hybrid vegetables to display characteristics to customers. It is a process of the company to attract customers for their vegetable than other competitors. The National Environmental Act of 1980 with its subsequent amendments in 1988 and 2000, which applies to both local and foreign investors stands as the most important single piece of legislation on environmental protection and management in Sri Lanka. It lays down stringent standards and restrictions to control discharges of pollutants to air, water and soil, to control the handling of chemical substances and risky wastes and to restore polluted properties.

Environmental policy
If we consider Agriculture based Business Company we have to ensure that all our business operations and activities are carried out in an environmentally friendly manner and with the minimum affect to the environment. As such we will:
