ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW Founded in 1915, The Minneapolis Foundation (TMF) is one of the nation's largest and most innovative community foundations. TMF has helped generations of Minnesotans create a charitable legacy and is invested in the future of the community. Families, individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and communities have created nearly 1,000 charitable funds at The Minneapolis Foundation. Donors and funding partners contribute approximately $30 million each year to local and national nonprofit organizations. TMF manages assets of more than $500 million. The Foundation also serves Minnesotans by building a permanent charitable endowment and distributing the income from it to benefit the community. Over the years, TMF has earned national honors and recognition for providing exceptional donor services and effective grantmaking, convening and public education programs. Consistent with its long-standing mission and commitment, the Foundation works to inspire a common vision of living in a community that is healthy, energetic and supportive to everyone in it. The Foundation invests its unrestricted resources strategically towards specific results in order to achieve social, economic, and racial equity. The Foundations grantmaking will support efforts that address the structural causes of inequity and seek to transform education, promote economic vitality, and build social capital. OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION The Minneapolis Foundation is seeking a dynamic, strategic, forward-thinking, and creative individual to lead the organizations Philanthropic Services team. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, Sandra Vargas, the Vice President, Philanthropic Services serves as a member of the Leadership Team which carries out the strategic direction for the Foundation. Other members of the Leadership Team include the Vice President, Community Philanthropy, Karen Kelley-Ariwoola, and the Vice President, Finance, Administration and Communications, Jean Adams. The Vice President, Philanthropic Services is the key Foundation expert on asset development and client services. This person will develop, implement and oversee programs designed to promote the acquisition of charitable assets in addition to serving as the Foundations principal contact and resource on matters related to charitable giving.

Direct reports to this position include 2 Philanthropic Services Advisors, 2 Donor Services Advisors, a Gift Planning Advisor, a Donor Services Associate, and 2 Administrative Assistants. There are currently 8 employees within the department.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The Vice President, Philanthropic Services for TMF will work closely with the President/CEO, VP of Finance, Administration & Communications, and VP, Community Philanthropy in addition to spending considerable time outside the office meeting with potential prospects/partners. Duties and responsibilities include: Develop and hold the department accountable to ambitious but attainable asset development results. Personally develop new business and asset management growth. Create and build relationships with key constituents including donors, prospects, professional advisors, trustees, and community organizations with the goal of expanding charitable resources under management by the Foundation. Management of department staff to ensure alignment of individual professional goals and outcomes with the Foundations strategic plan and yearly workplan. Leading by example in demonstrating commitment to advancing the overall goals of the Foundation and the specific goals and metrics of the department. Work with the Management Team and other staff and trustees to advance the Foundations capacity to strategically serve the community and its residents. Provide overall leadership and direction in developing department and Foundation goals, objectives, and strategies. Foster collaborative cross-departmental relationships with all staff and departments. Ensure alignment with marketing and communications strategy to achieve departmental and Foundation outreach and asset development goals. Serve as a spokesperson in the community and within the field of philanthropy on matters related to growing philanthropy in the community. As appropriate, represent the Foundation locally, regionally, and nationally on various committees and or initiatives/projects.

QUALIFICATIONS Candidates for this key executive position should be experienced, visionary, and inclusive leaders. At least 10-12 years of experience are desired, with experience in asset development/advancement field or translatable experience. He or she will have an active curiosity and passion for the mission of The Minneapolis Foundation. The successful candidate will be a person of integrity and stature in their community with proven leadership and complex program management experience, exemplary management skills, and a strong commitment to the mission, vision and values of TMF. A minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required with a Masters degree in a related field preferred. Other essential skills and experience include: Possess the capacity or ability to successfully cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors and foundations, government, and corporate support in support of an organizational mission. Strong, effective experience with fund raising and fund development programs, methods, techniques, and planning. Expertise in the field of asset development, community philanthropy and familiarity with the Minneapolis/St. Paul Twin Cities community is preferred. Knowledge of current service trends and emerging models is strongly preferred. Demonstrated success in organizational leadership, with proven competence in strategic planning, successful institutional positioning, and translating ideas into reality. Proven administrative competence and managerial ability. Demonstrated capabilities in financial management, marketing, organizational development, planning and goal setting, board relations, and staff supervision. Experience building, managing, and strengthening teams. Prior experience working with boards of directors. The ability and commitment to envision and describe the long-term future of an organization in a way that inspires and motivates key stakeholders and clients. The ability and commitment to be an engaging ambassador and advocate for TMF with key business and community leaders. A demonstrated commitment to excellence and collaborative leadership orientation. Exemplary interpersonal skills including the ability, savvy, and credibility to engage and interact with key leaders from the communitys businesses, faith organizations, government, nonprofits, other foundations and target audiences. Demonstrated ability to reach out to diverse constituents and form effective relationships.

A good listener with a respectful, consultative, and accessible leadership style, selfassured and comfortable with situations of ambiguity, able to relate easily to a wide range of constituencies including staff, trustees, donors, volunteers, and a wide variety of community constituencies and peer institutions. Highly competent, a team player, finds enjoyment in the work place, is an honest, open and balanced individual. The candidate should possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and be skilled at communication and collaboration. Flexible and readily available to the President/CEO, the Board of Trustees, the senior management staff, and a variety of stakeholders. Strong in communication skills in all media. Passionate about working with and for the donors of The Minneapolis Foundation. A big picture thinker and innovator with an ability to think strategically and creatively about achieving TMFs organizational priorities.

COMPENSATION The compensation package for this position is competitive and attractive. It includes an executive pay structure and participation in the organizations comprehensive benefits plan.
