NEW Course 2009/10 MSc INVESTMENT ANALYSIS


Duration: 12 months Start date: October Intake: Approx. 30 - 40 Programme Outline
This course is ideal for graduates who have some experience in finance, economics or a mathematical subject but have not majored in finance. It will provide the students with knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to careers in the financial sector or a related industry. It is also an excellent qualification for those wishing to enter a management career. Students will study equity, debt and derivatives markets in domestic and international markets and will discover how to undertake security valuation and portfolio management as well as learning about the key techniques used by financial traders. On successful completion of the course students are expected to: demonstrate an understanding of valuation techniques used in financial markets understand how to trade financial securities understand strategic decision-making within a financial context be able to employ risk management techniques use financial statements to analyse financial performance understand the international influences of finance

Entry Requirements
One of: Good UK honours degree of relevant background Equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University Degree-equivalent professional qualifications Candidates must have quantitative and analytical skills. Applicants will have studied some finance, economics or other quantitative modules at undergraduate level. Plus: 2 references International students whose native language is not English or who have not completed a full degree programme taught in English will also need an IELTS or TOEFL qualification. IELTS minimum of 7.0 overall with Speaking/Writing 7.0 and Listening/Reading - 6.5. TOEFL minimum of either Paper-based test - 620 with a *TWE of 5.0, Computer-based test - 260 with a *TWE of 5.0, Internet-based test - 105 with Writing/Speaking - 25 and Listening/Reading - 23. * Test of Written English

Career Opportunities
This course provides graduates with the knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to careers in the financial sector such as financial and investment analysis, stockbroking, market trading, investment banking and corporate finance.

Fee
UK/EU students - 8,500 International students - 13,600 Fees may be paid in three instalments.

Assessment
The eight taught modules are assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework, complemented by an investment analysis project on a leading company.
