FYI Corner Parents and Providers can help develop healthy eating habits for children Here are a few tips to help children learn how to make healthy food choices. Keep a wide variety of healthy foods in the house. (Dont buy junk food.) Encourage water as their beverage choice. Eat slowly and serve family style meals for your family. Involve children in gardening, food shopping and preparing meals. (Children may be more willing to eat or try foods that they help grow and prepare.) Plan for snacks. Continuous snacking may lead to overeating. Discourage eating meals or snacks while watching TV. Try not to use food to punish or reward your children. Telling children that they will get dessert if they eat all of their vegetables sends the wrong message. Kids imitate the eating habits of the adults around them. A module is 6-7 hours of professional development that are related in topic and build the participants knowledge on the subject matter. In most cases, it is not required to attend all sessions to receive a certifcate, but highly recommended. Participants will receive a certifcate for the sessions of the module they attend. What is this? Learning Styles of young children is based on the multiple intelligence theory that expresses the belief that all children possess at least eight unique intelligences through which they are able to learn new information. Although all children possess all eight, no two children have them in the exact same amounts. Addressing childrens learning styles through a variety of unique experiences allows children to better understand themselves as lifelong learners, and to see how others acquire knowledge and apply their skills. Teachers of young children will be presented with skills in which they can immediately apply in their child care setting to encourage the development of learning styles by providing enrichment opportunities in each of the areas of a childs intellect. Tis will be a fun, informative, interactive, useful workshop for all!
