SHORT STORY I: A CHANCE MEETING AT CIANJUR PLOT STRUCTURE

EXPLANATION EXPOSITION Exposition is the beginning of the plot and concerned with introducing characters and setting. Example: The writer introduces I as the main character in this story. His name is Adi. The time setting of this story was when I and his younger sister together with her daughter on their way to Jakarta for an appointment. From

RISING ACTION Rising action is the central part of a story during which various problems arise, leading up to the climax. Example: I came back to his house and saw the teary face of his mother. His mother told that his father has been kidnapped by the drug lords while working. Then, both of them cried until they slept. From line 7 until line 58

CLIMAX

Climax is the high point of the story, where culmination of events create the peak of the conflict. Example: Evidence: The policemen came to their house in the next morning and told that they had found the father. Unfortunately, the father was dead. From line 59 until line 64

FALLING ACTION The falling action is the part of a story following the climax. This part shows the result of the climax, and its effects on the characters, setting, and proceeding events. Example: Evidence: after ten years, the family moved back to the states and I was going to the college in California. His mother live up with him there. From line 65 until 73

RESOLUTION ( DENOUEMENT ) Denouement consists of series of events that follow the climax, and thus serves as the conclusion of the story. Example: I have strong opinions about Americans moving to Colombia to pursue any kind of business. I understand the Colombian culture from research and from living there, even though it was only eight childhood there. From line 74 until line 82
