Welcome
Welcome to Intellects new journals catalogue for 2012. Included in this catalogue are the 83 journals we publish, with 11 exciting new titles for 2012, and details of our iPad App for The Big Picture magazine, which offers a unique perspective on the world of film, available to download for free. Our new journals explore the convergences of film and fashion; art and the moving image; teaching and learning in art; punk and post-punk; and performance and Islam; while other new titles Scene and Ubiquity are dedicated to scenography and pervasive media respectively. We are also publishing in new areas with the launch of two journals focusing on Islamic architecture and on curatorial studies, and finally, we are delighted to announce a new collaboration with the regional branches of the Popular Culture Association (PCA) with the 2012 launches of the official journals of the Popular Culture Association of Australia and New Zealand (Popcaanz) and the Popular Culture Association of Canada. We have also updated information on our journal collections, which are designed for libraries that subscribe to seven or more journals. In addition to discounted prices, these collections give your institution full back-issue access to all journals in the collection. We are also pleased to announce that from July 2011, online access to our journals will be hosted by ingentaconnect. Please see page 52 for further details. Comedy Studies
Comedy plays a more important role today than ever before; specialist comedy television channels are prevalent across the world, and in medical circles professionals are beginning to develop methods of using laughter to aid physical and psychological problems. And yet, until now, there has been no academic journal dedicated to these cultural phenomena, let alone their historical antecedents. Comedy Studies fills this void.

Journal of Curatorial Studies
The Journal of Curatorial Studies is a new international, peer-reviewed publication examining the increasing cultural relevance of curating and its impact on exhibitions, institutions, audiences, aesthetics and display practices. Curating has evolved considerably from the connoisseurship model of arranging objects to now encompass performative, virtual and interventionist strategies. As well as producing exhibitions, curating now plays a catalytic role in redefining aesthetic experience, framing cultural conditions in institutions and communities, and inquiring into constructions of knowledge and ideology. The journal supports investigations of contemporary and historical exhibitions, and features case studies of curatorial projects, interviews with curators, artists and theorists, and analyses of the critical dynamics influencing the production of exhibitions in art and broader display culture.

Metaverse Creativity
Metaverse Creativity is a refereed journal focusing on the role of creativity in user-defined online virtual worlds such as Second Life. While an inquiry into the creative output generated in these environments is the primary focus, the underlying socio-economic, psychological, legal and technological frameworks as they relate to creative activity are also subjects of discourse.

Philosophy of Photography
Philosophy of Photography is not committed to any one notion of photography nor, indeed, to any particular philosophical approach. Instead, it provides a forum for the debate of theoretical issues arising from the historical, political, cultural, scientific and critical matrix of ideas, practices and techniques that may be said to constitute photography as a multifaceted form.

The Moving Image Review & Art Journal
The Moving Image Review & Art Journal (MIRAJ) is an exciting new journal devoted to artists film and video, and its contexts. MIRAJ offers a forum for debates surrounding all forms of artists moving image and media artworks: film, video installation, expanded cinema, video performance, experimental documentary, animation, and other screen-based works made by artists. MIRAJ aims to consolidate artists moving image as a distinct area of study, bridging a number of academic disciplines. The editors invite contributions from art historians and critics, film and media scholars, scholars from other disciplines, curators, and not least practitioners themselves. MIRAJ will include articles which offer theoretically-informed commentary on the present moment in contemporary art, but also writings that propose historical re-readings.

The Poster
The poster maker, the pamphleteer and the tagger aim to sway the popular heart and mind through visual public interventions. As new technologies rise, turning the public sphere into a transparent, ubiquitous communications medium and a global marketplace, is the privileged status of the poster doomed, or are we seeing it transformed as part of a new wave of visual rhetoric? This journal leads the debate. From Luthers 95 theses nailed to a church door to New Yorks Times Square, every rhetorical visual form intended to sway hearts and minds falls within the journals remit. The Poster is a forum to examine the role of the poster in its fullest and richest sense. It engages with an exploration of all forms of public-facing communication intended to persuade us by focusing our attention on a singular message.

Ubiquity: The Journal of Pervasive Media
Ubiquity the ability to be everywhere at the same time, a potential historically attributed to the occult is now a common feature of the average mobile phone. The title refers explicitly to the advent of ubiquitous computing that has been hastened through the consumption of networked digital devices. The journal anticipates the consequences for design and research in a culture where everyone and everything is connected, and will offer a context for visual artists, designers, scientists and writers to consider how pervasive media is transforming our relationship with the world. In embracing these aspirations, Ubiquity recognizes the transgressions and trauma that are implicit in the inevitable cultural shifts that will follow. The journal aims to create new dialogues between disciplines that utilize these technologies and to consider these activities within a social/cultural context.
