The Poster
The poster maker, the pamphleteer and the tagger aim to sway the popular heart and mind through visual public interventions. As new technologies rise, turning the public sphere into a transparent, ubiquitous communications medium and a global marketplace, is the privileged status of the poster doomed, or are we seeing it transformed as part of a new wave of visual rhetoric? This journal leads the debate. From Luthers 95 theses nailed to a church door to New Yorks Times Square, every rhetorical visual form intended to sway hearts and minds falls within the journals remit. The Poster is a forum to examine the role of the poster in its fullest and richest sense. It engages with an exploration of all forms of public-facing communication intended to persuade us by focusing our attention on a singular message.

In the current academic climate there is an ongoing repositioning of media and cultural studies outside the Anglo-American axis. Exploring media ranging from television and print to jokes, music and the Internet, the Journal of African Media Studies contributes to this repositioning by providing a forum for debate on the historical and contemporary aspects of media and communication in Africa.

Short Fiction in Theory & Practice

Short Fiction in Theory & Practice provides an international forum for all those writing, reading, translating or publishing the short story in all its diversity including flash fiction, the novella, cycles, sequences, anthologies and single-author collections, hypertext, popular fiction (e.g. science fiction, horror), the prose poem, the non-fiction story and other hybrid genres. It looks at the short story from the practitioners viewpoint; it is concerned with the ongoing process and philosophy of composition rather than post-event dissection of literary texts. Contributors also discuss cultural and political contexts, especially the short storys role as an outlet for marginalized or dissident voices.

Ubiquity: The Journal of Pervasive Media
Ubiquity the ability to be everywhere at the same time, a potential historically attributed to the occult is now a common feature of the average mobile phone. The title refers explicitly to the advent of ubiquitous computing that has been hastened through the consumption of networked digital devices. The journal anticipates the consequences for design and research in a culture where everyone and everything is connected, and will offer a context for visual artists, designers, scientists and writers to consider how pervasive media is transforming our relationship with the world. In embracing these aspirations, Ubiquity recognizes the transgressions and trauma that are implicit in the inevitable cultural shifts that will follow. The journal aims to create new dialogues between disciplines that utilize these technologies and to consider these activities within a social/cultural context.
