Eligibility Requirements
Extra Curricular Athletic Activities Purpose: 1. Develop and promote growth physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. 2. Provide instruction in the basic skills and techniques of the game. 3. Provide a setting for promoting Christian attitudes about teamwork, leadership, competition, sportsmanship, cooperation, and sacrifice. 4. Instill in all of our athletes a sense that they can contribute and have value to the team. It is our belief that in order to carry out this purpose the following need to be kept in mind: A students ability should not prohibit us from carrying out our purpose; therefore, the opportunity to play in game situations shall be given to each player. Winning games is not one of our stated purposes; however, all other things accomplished, this is a worthy goal. With this purpose stated and with the above statements in mind the following expectations have been adopted: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Students will: Keep their priorities in order God first, family second, schoolwork third, and then sports. Pledge themselves to the highest attitudes and habits of Christian sportsmanship. Return a completed physical form and sports fee to the office before practicing with the team. Submit to the rules and regulations of the coach and Athletic Director. Pledge themselves to hard work at practices in order to become the best they can be at the given sport. If practices are missed, the student should understand that it could affect playing time and possibly their spot on the team. Maintain regular and punctual attendance at practices and games. Attend no less than one-half of classes on the day of a practice or game. Maintain eligibility as stated in the eligibility policy. If eligible, sit with the team at all games regardless of playing status for that particular game. Parent will: Know and support the policies that affect their childs athletic participation and support the coachs implementation of these policies. Encourage their child to put their best effort into their work and will show an interest by attending games when possible. Privately discuss with the coach any concerns that may arise. Provide athletes with a good model of Christian sportsmanship, remembering that winning is not the most important goal. Provide transportation to away games when possible. Display good sportsmanship during games by encouraging the players and coach, and by refraining from verbally abusing the referees.

If a student is found to be ineligible, the student will be put on a probationary period of two weeks. During this time, the student will be expected to improve in whatever area(s) that the student faltered in. At the end of the probationary period, the students grades will be evaluated a second time to determine eligibility. If the student has failed to meet the expectations, the student will be removed from eligibility status until the next sports season (or other extra-curricular season) begins. At that time the student will be re-evaluated to determine if significant progress has been achieved. If so, the students eligibility will be renewed. If not, the student will continue to be ineligible. Students found to be ineligible twice during the same sport season will have their eligibility removed until the next sports season. Parental notification will, at the minimum, occur at the day initiating the probationary period, and at the end of the probationary period. Notification of the probationary period will occur the same day as the Mid-term and Quarterly reports are sent home. The probationary period will begin that day as well. The Athletic Director will send a list of students on probation to the Principal at the beginning of the probationary period and at its end. Appropriate letters will then be sent to the student/parents.
