INTERNSHIPS

The Internship Program at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University was created to afford students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment. This prestigious program allows students to work side by side industry professions - applying knowledge gained in the classroom inreal-world situations.

Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be:    At least 18 years old (21 years old for the Food and Beverage Internship) Be willing to commit to a semester-long program(or semester equivalent) Special consideration for currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program

Requirements
To apply for an internship, it is important to complete and submit the following:     Completed application Resume with cover letter 2 letters of recommendation Personal statement (discussing your professional goals as well as what you d like to gain from an internship)

Process
All applicants will be screened first by the required documents submitted. Based on review of all applicants, the Auditorium Theatre will select and notify candidates to be interviewed. Each internship opening will be filled based on the interviews of all candidates.

Compensation
During their time as an Intern with the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, interns will receive:    College Credit (subject to college/university approval) Exposure to professionals in a variety of fields Networking Opportunities

OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY:
The Operations Internship will focus on general theatre operations, specifically Production, Front of House, Food and Beverage, Box Office and Maintenance. Candidates will work closely with ATRU staff in developing a comprehensive understanding of the practical application of operating a large, non-profit theatre.

OBJECTIVES:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:       Work with Manager on Duty in dealing with customers, staff and show operations Assist with follow up of issues reported by staff and patrons after each show Assist in coordinating the Auditorium Theatre s extensive volunteer program Help with inventory and accounting reporting for concessions department Spearhead a number of interesting projects for all aspects of the theatre Act as a liaison for the operations department

   Flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends Superb communications skills (both verbal and written) Be responsible for own housing and transportation

CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT INTERNSHIP


SUMMARY:
The Department of Creative Engagement offers a wide variety of diverse arts opportunities. From professional development for teachers, in-school residencies, master classes and a dynamic student matinee series to historic theatre tours, traveling musical productions with accompanying curriculum and lesson plans, and our summer camp for children who have lost a parent to death Hands Together, Heart to Art, the Auditorium Theatre strives to provide meaningful and accessible arts experiences to the Chicago community.

OBJECTIVES:
The Creative Engagement Intern will assist the Director of Education with the development, execution and maintenance of the program. Interns will be valued as vital members of a working team with tasks and duties resulting in actual outcomes. In addition to providing hands-on opportunities to assist and observe Creative Engagement programs, residencies, and camps, interns learn how to create, manage and produce effective opportunities for youth, adults and seniors.

SPECIFICDUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:       Research, writing, and design of teacher and student resource guides Serving as an on-site representative at Creative Engagement events Assisting with program registrations, phone communication, and the creation and maintenance of education databases Preparing for residencies and workshops Coordination of touring productions Updating and communicating information to educators and schools including: outreach opportunities, logistical needs, study guides, follow-up evaluations and various program specifications Communicate the mission and philosophy of the Auditorium Theatre

ARTS ADMINISTRATION INTERNSHIP


SUMMARY:
The Arts Administration internship program is designed to introduce the intern to all aspects of arts management applicable to the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University.

OBJECTIVES:
The Arts Administration internship will provide the intern with a comprehensive understanding of the operational, logistical and financial components of the Auditorium Theatre.This internship will offer an experience which entails a variety of responsibilities. These responsibilities include supporting all facets of management team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Interns may assist with general office work, contracts, show settlement, client relations, operations, entertainment production, database management, venue and site development and so much more. Our Interns will interface with corporate clients, vendors, production crews and other staff.

HOSPITALITY INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY:
The Hospitality internship will provide an intern interested in Hospitality administration insight into concessions management. It will also help develop the administrative, operative, and customer service skills involved in managing all aspects of Food & Beverage operations and event management as it relates to the Auditorium Theatre.

OBJECTIVES:
The Hospitality Intern will assist the Food & Beverage Manager with the many aspects of concessions management. This includes staff management and scheduling, concessions and administrative operations, concessions, cost management, and cash handling. The intern may also be introduced to ordering and purchasing negotiations.

SPECIFICDUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:       Pricing analysis of local hotels and restaurants Pricing analysis of comparable theatres and venues Assisting with administrative duties including accounting, operations and other reporting details Bartending Staff Management Event Management and Logistic Planning

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HOSPITALITY INTERN:


       Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills Flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends Comfortable with various research methodologies Knowledge of MS Office Suite Be of legal serving age Excellent attitude and neat clean appearance Previous Customer Service experience preferred

MARKETING INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY:
The Marketing Internship will provide the intern with a multifaceted understanding of the different aspects of marketing in a theatre setting. This internship will introduce the intern to real world experiences in the field of marketing.

OBJECTIVES:
The Marketing Intern will gain insight and experience in the responsibilities involved in marketing for theatre. Interns will learn about strategic planning, e-marketing, copywriting and editing, partnership relations, website maintenance, direct mail campaigns, and promotion development and integration.

SPECIFICDUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:      Website maintenance E-marketing campaign coordination Competitive Research Database management and upkeep Promotional brainstorming and integration

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MARKETING INTERN:


      Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills Marketing major or background Excellent organization Able to work independently with high productivity Willing to coordinate with other departments Knowledge of HTML and Adobe Creative Suite a plus

SALES INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY:
The Sales Internship will provide the intern with a multifaceted understanding of the different aspects of Sales in a large, non-profit theatre setting. This internship will introduce the intern to real world experiences in the field of sales including understanding customer service.

OBJECTIVES:
The Sales Internship will help the intern build the skills needed to be successful in sales within a nonprofit organization. Intern will learn: how to make a sale from start to finish, how to create an effective sales plan for a targeted market, the importance of networking in Chicago, and skill in the use of both the Archtics and Ticketmaster ticketing systems.

SPECIFICDUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:       Building and maintaining relationships with group leaders and season ticket holders Supporting the sales team in day to day invoicing Assist Sales to explore fresh ways to communicate with existing clients and prospect for new clients Database management and upkeep Participate in brainstorming and research in prospecting markets Personal meetings and sales calls

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SALES INTERN:


     Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills Marketing or Public Relations major or background Excellent organization Enthusiastic with a drive to take on projects start to finish Strong customer service skills

PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY:
The Production Internship will focus on all of the aspects of production involved in preparing, running and loading out productions from the venue perspective.

OBJECTIVES:
The Production Intern will learn the different facets involved with theatre production. The intern willgain exposure to labor, trade, and employment policies, learn production contract content and their requirements, coordinating with incoming productions, and building maintenance and restoration.

SPECIFICDUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:         Coordinate transportation, catering, and housing for production cast and crew Collect supplies from various vendors throughout Chicago Attend rehearsal room sessions as needed Run errands between administrative offices, suppliers, and the theater Participate in the organization and operations of various special events Distribution of information to the production departments and personnel Coordinate with Operations, Sales and Marketing departments General office / administration duties

SUSTAINABILITY INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY:
The Sustainability Internship will assist in the development of sustainable operations and administration of a national historic landmark theatre.

OBJECTIVES:
The Sustainability Intern willbecome an integral part of the Auditorium Theatre sustainability efforts and will expand their knowledge of the role sustainability plays in an entertainment venue and non- profit organization. The internship will provide the opportunity to conduct research, study trends, compile standards and formulate ideas to improve sustainability. The intern willdevelop project management skills and work closely with senior management.

SPECIFICDUTIES:
Assignments may include, but are not limited to:         Coordinate the Auditorium Theatre Sustainability Committee Research cutting edge issues that relate to sustainable practices Study sustainability as it relates to restoration and construction Identify potential cost savings as a result of sustainable practices Participate in the organization and operations of various green events Assist departments in benchmarking current practices Distribution of information to administration General office / administration duties

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PRODUCTION INTERN:


    Flexible schedule (primarily weekdays) Superb verbal and written communications skills Experience with research and general understanding of sustainability Be responsible for own housing and transportation
