With God as My Coach

After years of coaching, I ve realized that many of the things I teach my players are things I would be hearing every day with God as my Coach. Here are some of the principles I could hear God saying. I. You have to get low. A. Getting low gives you balance

Romans 12:10-12 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another, not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. B. Getting low gives you strength. Ephesians 3:13-14 Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. II. Practicedoesn t make perfect. Perfectpractice makes perfect. A. Bad habits can form in a very shorttime. Exodus 32:7-8 And the lord said to Moses, Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it and said, This is the Lord your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt! B. Bad habits can be difficult to fix. Romans 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice: but what I hate, that I do. C. Good habits require a lifetimecommitment. 1 John 2:28-29 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

III.

There is no I in Team. A. A team picks each other up.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. B. A team is stronger than its individuals. Ecclesiastes 412 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three is not quickly broken. C. A team is a joy to eachother. Psalm 133:1-2 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Runningodwn on the beard, the beard of Aaron, Running down the edge of his garment. IV. You have to recognize your Coach s voice.

Deut4:36 From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.

2 Sam 22:14 The Lord thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. Isaiah30:21Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, This is the way; walk in it. John 10:3-5The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger s voice.
