Napaul Publishers, Inc. August 5, 2011 THE SECOND ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT THE SALEM AREA VAN ENDEAVOR (SAVE) will be held on August 13 at the Ondawa Greens Golf Course. Cosponsored by the Salem Rotary Club and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, the tournament will offer two tee times: 8:00 am followed by lunch at noon; or 1:00 pm with dinner at 5:00 pm. The cost is $50 per person which includes either lunch or dinner. Lunch or dinner tickets alone are $20. Prizes will be awarded. Space is limited, and participants are encouraged to register early. SAVE is a community service providing transportation for Salem Area senior citizens and others without transportation to grocery shops and to other local destinations at no charge. Ken White, a volunteer driver, makes several trips each week. The tournament provides funds for operating the free service. Last year forty golfers enjoyed beautiful weather and helped support this worthwhile cause, raising over $2,100. For more information about the tournament, contact Rose Ann Savage at 854-9339. In 2007 Robert and Dorothy Schoonmaker purchased the North Granville Country Store from Jake and Mary Sabo. Things were going along smoothly, despite the crowded conditions of the old market. Then, in November of 2010 an electrical fire destroyed the building, and put the Schoonmakers out of business. But, the Schoonmakers are positive thinkers and because they loved the business and the people with whom they did business, they decided to re-build and re-open. Recently, they did just that, and what a spectacular job they did! You simply will not recognize the place-its wide open, well organized, and everything is easy to find. Schoonys offers a splendid deli, with daily specials... (such as an 8 inch long roll with sausage and peppers for $4.99-where can you beat that?) Their meat market is one of the best in the area. We cut our meats 3 times a day to ensure freshness and quality, says Robert. We go through 40lbs of hamburger every day! The new store is chocked full of items you would expect to find in any good market. But, there is an emphasis here that you may not find elsewhere. We buy local! We buy Rathbuns maple products, Birch Family produce, Puckers pickles, Battenkill Valley Creamery milk and ice cream, Jail House mustards, Double AA meats, US Foods meats, fresh baked rolls from Gambels, Van Aernum milk, Adirondack brand potato chips, and from many other local producers. If anyone has a product made locally, we will be happy to see what you produce, and we will help you sell it! Robert and Dorothy are assisted by other family members and have 14 full or part time employees. We are doing our best to help reduce unemployment, says Robert. The store is located at 10254 State Route 22 in North Granville and is open 6am-9pm Monday through Friday, 8am-9pm Saturday, and 8am to 8pm Sunday. Their phone number is 518-345-5049. We found the market, its staff and its owners to be friendly, helpful, and fun. We suggest you stop by at your earliest convenience, and let them know we suggested it!

The Schaghticoke Fair Fundraising Committee is currently converting a section of the Freihofers Building into a Veterans Hall. We are seeking donations to purchase 3 additional flagpoles to place in front of the current Friehofers Building at the Fair for a total of 6 1 for each branch of the service and one for the American flag.
