ECHALK TECHNOLOGY GUIDE - DNS RECORDS REQUIRED FOR ECHALK SERVICES

Purpose: This document provides an eChalk customer who manages their own DNS Name Servers with a complete set of DNS records allowing eChalk services to function appropriately.

eChalk Service Affected

eChalk Website URL(s) (Required)

Type of Record
CNAME (or A)

Record data
HOST: Host of School website URL DATA: (see description) TTL: 14400

Description & Notes

Description: A DNS record is implemented for each eChalk Website to allow access for Internet users. Host field: For example; populate with www for www.YoureChalkDomain.org. Data field: We recommend using CNAME record and direct to website.eChalk.com. (Please include the trailing dot!) Alternatively, an A record can be created and pointed to 67.202.217.94. Description: The DNS MX record allows eChalk accounts to receive Internet mail. Only one MX record should exist for an eChalk mail domain. Hosts field should be populated on the following samples: o Sample 1: Populate with @ symbol for user@YoureChalkDomain.org. o Sample 1: Populate with host of eChalk if your mail domain is user@eChalk.YoureChalkDomain.org. Data field: We recommend directing the MX record to mail.eChalk.com. (Please include the trailing dot!) Alternatively, the eChalk IP address of 67.202.217.94 can be used instead. Note: If the MX record is pointing to another IP address for an eChalk managed domain, please contact eChalk Support at (800) 499-2741 to further optimize this custom configuration. Description: eChalk supports Sender Policy Framework (SPF) standards as a security method to validate eChalk mail servers as the only servers responsible for sending mail for an eChalk mail domain. More information can be found here: http://www.openspf.org. Customers willing to follow these Internet Standards should create a SPF or TXT DNS record. Hosts field should be populated on the following samples: o Sample (1): user@YoureChalkDomain.org : In this case, please populate with @. o Sample (2): user@eChalk.YoureChalkDomain.org : In this case, please populate with eChalk Description: eChalk has implemented a feature to automatically redirect users attempting to access an eChalk website without placing www before the domain in the web browser. For example; an Internet user entering http://YoureChalkDomain.org would encounter an error when they are trying to access an eChalk site of http://www.YoureChalkDomain.org. To prevent this, create a DNS A record for the domain.
