AUGUST IS OUR BIRTH MONTH. Celebrate with us!

Mt Cloud Bookshop first opened its doors to the book-loving community of Baguio on the afternoon of August 29, 2010. We couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome from friends, family, writers, artists, scholars, and avidreaders alike. Since then it's been a rollicking year full of meetings of great minds, new friendships forged in poetry, and true encounters worthy of being written into works of fiction or drawn into comics. To celebrate our first year and thank everyone that's been a part of the Cloud, we invite you all to a string of happenings in the month of August 2011.
Story-telling for children and their grown-ups. On August 7, Sunday, at 3PM, three women writers will keep kids and their grown-ups in thrall as they read aloud from our fine collection of children's literature. Nonnette Bennet will read her book Moonbeams, an environmental fable published in Baguio by the Cordillera Green Network. She will be joined by poets Luchie Marananan and Desiree Caluza who will choose surprise stories to read on Sunday. A Theatrical Reading On August 12, Friday, at 5:30PM, a gathering for theater aficionados: Karlo Altomonte, RL Altomonte, Ferdinand Balanag, Lissa Romero-de Guia, and members of Open Space will give dramatic readings of excerpts from scripts by Swedish playwright August Strindberg and our very own Rene Villanueva. Sit down, close your eyes, and imagine yourself in the scenes the readers' voices will re-create. Author's Talk with Carljoe Javier No less than the champion of geeks, Carljoe Javier will be in the Cloud on August 21, 2011 at 4PM, for a conversation with his readers on his latest book, Geek Tragedies. FILCOLS Huntahan In cooperation with the Filipinas Copyright Licensing Society, Inc., and Literati, the student organization for U.P. Baguio's literature majors, we bring you a three-hour workshop on the rights of writers, researchers, and artists. Concepts and laws regarding copyright and plagiarism will be discussed in a conversational language and tone to encourage participation and questions from the audience. A representative from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines will give a talk on copyright basics while Alvin Buenaventura, FILCOLS Executive Director, will talk about economic rights of writers,

researchers and publishers. Abdon Balde, Jr. will talk about joining writers' organizations and publishing opportunities. This will be held on August 26, 2011, Friday, in U.P. Baguio. The exact time and venue will be announced shortly. The workshop is free and open to all interested writers, researchers, and artists. Maximum 30 participants. Potluck Photo Exhibit Let's see if we can fill every empty space on our walls with mountains and clouds! Simply bring prints of your snapshots of mountains and clouds and put them up in any available space in the shop. Don't forget to give us your name at the counter so we can include you in the list of contributors. Potluck eye candy! Performance Poetry Auditions We're very excited to announce that we're opening auditions for performance poetry and/or spoken word from August 8 onwards. Aspiring performers and poets should send a personal message to Mountain Cloud to set an appointment for an audition. At the appointed date come with a prepared performance piece. It doesn't have to be original but be sure to credit your source. Chosen poets will perform during our anniversary party on the night of August 27, 2011. Birthday Party! August 27, 2011, 5PM onwards A night of revelry and surprises. Need we say more?

As is usual in the Cloud, everyone is welcome!
