Were off to see school show Parkgate Primary Schools latest production was the famous Wizard of Oz. The children worked hard ready to give one of their best performances yet in two sell out performances to friends and family. Parents, grandparents and staff have worked with the children to transform the hall into a magical land over the rainbow which includes talking trees and a blow up crocodile.All of the KS2 children have a part, from Munchkins to Flying Monkeys with the Year 6 taking the lead roles.

Neighbour chased burglar up the road

POlice are appealing for witnesses after a thief broke into an elderly womans home in The looms, Parkgate. A man was seen breaking into the victims home and was promptly challenged by a local resident. At which point the suspect ran from the house and was chased up the road by the 61-year-old neighbour. The suspect, determined to escape, then turned and sprayed an unknown substance at the face of the victim. The thief escaped with a handbag stolen from the house. Fortunately the neighbour was not injured and the substance sprayed at him is not believed to have been a chemical. The owner of the house, who is a lady in her late 80s, was not at home at the time of the burglary. Dc Rob Marshall said: The actions of this man were very public spirited and he risked his own personal safety in pursuing the criminal from the address, resulting in what could have been a serious injury to himself. The incident took place at around 10pm on Sunday 26th June, a week after another burglary in The looms where a large amount of jewellery was stolen.

Triple celebration at the Fishermans Church

On a beautiful summers day last month, members gathered with family and friends to celebrate the Festival of St Thomas the Apostle, to mark the rededication of the Memorial Book and the first anniversary of St Thomass reopening in July 2011, after sixteen years of closed doors. Some 28 names, all people associated with St Thomass who died while the church was shut, were added to the Memorial Book. Their inclusion was marked in a moving act of commemoration when family and friends placed candles by the altar. With twice-weekly regular services and special events at christmas and easter, including for Parkgate Primary School, weddings, baptisms, increasing usage by the community for social events, parties, talks, concerts and meetings and ideas for further growth, everyone feels that the effort was entirely worthwhile.

JULIE Dawson, from Neston, took the plunge with a 220ft abseil down the outside of the ventilation shaft of the Birkenhead side of the Mersey Tunnel. Julie did the abseil with her two sons Daniel and Kevin in aid of the charity B.I.R.D - Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Development based in Chester. In total, they raised 400 for the centre. She said: I got to hear of this charity while I was a member of Ness and Little Neston WI. Since becoming president of the newly formed Neston Riverside WI, I decided in my own way to support them. Although we have little funds at the moment I would like to put it to the members that we perhaps can support them as our charity.

School is awash with offers of goodwill

Staff, pupils, parents and friends of the Neston Primary School, picked up their buckets and sponges at the weekend when they held a car wash to raise money to replace the schools stolen bell. The team of car washers included members of staff from the local Sainsburys store, who kindly came along in their own time to help. At times during the day, the weather was rotten, but the volunteers were determined and continued to wash cars in the pouring rain, ensuring that every vehicle left gleaming. The event raised an amazing 1,220 towards the cost of repairs and replacing the school bell, which was stolen recently along with lead from the roof. Headteacher, Rob Golding said, The people of Neston were very generous with their donations and words of support. We raised far more than we had hoped for. i would like to thank everyone who came along to have their vehicles washed, we are all very grateful for their support.
