THE ROYAL GAME OF UR- GAME CONCEPT DOCUMENT

INTRODUCTION:
"The Royal Game of Ur is one of the oldest known board games and originates from era of Mesopotamia. The original rules are not known, but the rules as defined by the British Museum. It is arguable if those rules are correct, and on basis of this I have modified little game-play as we find these rules deliver the best mobile multiplayer turn based game-play. Ur is a so called Race game. The goal of the game is to be the first to have all of your 4 pieces in the end zone."

FACTS:
'The Royal Game of Ur' is one of the most ancient traditional board game known, predating even Egyptian Senate by about 300 years. It appears to have been very popular among the Sumerian rulers and to have spread from Sumer to sites all over the ancient world from India to the Mediterranean. The ancient Egyptian game '20-Squares' (dating from about 1800 BC), for instance, is very likely a version of this game. 'The Royal Game of Ur' is of course not the game's real name. Its actual name is lost in ancient times, but because of the examples of it found in the royal cemetery of Ur, the game soon came to be called 'The Royal Game of Ur' among archaeologists. The game is played with fourteen markers --six to a side -- with two sets, one for each player, of three curious pyramidal dice. The boards the markers move on are variously made but all share distinct rosette markings on strategic squares. 'The Royal Game of Ur' was played in ancient Sumer and Mesopotamia since before at least 2500 BC. Now it is here again in the present, re-created through the magic of electrons and phosphorus, for you to play. Welcome to a game of the ancient Sumerians -- Noah, Sargon, Shulgi, Abraham, and now you!

In India, The royal game of UR is not known, this can be the first game in India. It resembles the original Indian game paschichi (kodi) People love traditional game to play History dig Creativity

GAME PLAY:
This is an ancient board game. Turn based game played with Four game pieces each side (here shown white and black). The progress of game depends on the throw of dice. As mentioned earlier, the game doesnt have any proven format to play. Its arguable how the game goes! The British Museum had defined a game-play. As adverted and directed by British Museum, game is played with 7 pieces and 4 pyramids. But when I look at mobile platform multiplayer game-play, the game becomes little lengthy. We might face few restrictions like getting calls while playing, network disturbances, delivery delay, , session breaks and battery exhaustion. This might lessen the interests and addictiveness of the game-play and as result user will not complete the game. Keeping above factors in mind, I have modified the game a little. There is no harm doing that as I have researched, many people have played this game but in their own ways. Even on line! The Game will have 4 pieces (black and white pieces/buttons) instead of 7. The Game will have 3 pyramids (dices) instead of 4. The transition of game play will be little shorter.

FIGURE 2: THE DEFINED GAME PLAY BY BRITISH MUSEUM.

The game play is changed a little to have fast and addiction for mobile game users. (Will be defined in the Full Game Design Document)

FIGURE 4: ROSETTE PLACEMENTS

GAME FLOW IN BRIEF:

Our game is for two players, with 4 pieces each. Black and white.(see figure:3) To play the game we use special dice, pyramids with notches on two of the corners, once you have thrown the dice, count the numbers of notches facing upwards and thats your score to proceed with. (see figure:3) The aim of the game is to get all of your pieces all the way around. If an enemy piece lands on your piece then your piece is sent home. (see figure:3) There are 5 rosette squares. If you land on a rosette you will get another throw of the dice and your piece is safe from enemy attack. (see figure:4)
