0) INTRODUCTION
Open source software (OSS) refers to software that is developed, tested, or improved through public collaboration and distributed with the idea that the must be shared with others, ensuring an open future collaboration. The collaborative experience of many developers, especially those in the academic environment, in developing various versions of the UNIX Operating System, Richard Stallman's idea of Free Software Faoundation, and the desire of users to freely choose among a number of products - all of these led to the Open Source movement and the approach to developing and distributing programs as open source software. Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides instructions for the hardware to acoomplish tasks. The boundary between hardware and software is slightly blurry - firmware is software that is "built-in" to the hardware, but such firmware is usually the province of computer programmers and computer engineers in any case and not an issue that computer users need to concern themselves with. Software is a generic term for organized collections of computer data and instructions, often broken into two major categories: system software that provides the basic non-task-specific functions of the computer, and application software which is used by users to accomplish specific tasks.

2.0) THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

2.1) MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE Open source is an approach to the design, development, and distribution of software, offering practical accessibility to a software's source code. Some consider open source as one of various possible design approaches, while others consider it a critical strategic element of their operations. An Operating System is a computer program that manages the resources of a computer. It accepts keyboard or mouse inputs from users and displays the results of the

actions and allows the user to run applications, or communicate with other computers via networked connections. Open source application software is software that any programmer can download from the Internet for free and modify with suggested improvements. Its the only qualification is that changes can't be copyrighted.

2.2) EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE OS Linux Mint Linux refers to Linux is the popular multi-tasking UNIX type operating System. Linux Mint 11 is the latest release of Linux Mint, a desktop distribution based on Ubuntu Desktop. This is different from Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), a version of Linux Mint based on Debian. Its released in June 2011. Ubuntu
Ubuntu is a community developed operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. Ubuntu 11.04 is the latest product of Ubuntu. Ubuntu includes Mozilla Firefox for fast, safe web browsing. You can also choose alternative open-source browsers from the Ubuntu Software Centre.

3.0) THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

3.1) MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE Application software is software that is used to help a user perform a task and solve a problem. Application software are all programs that perform specific tasks for users, which include wordprocessing, spreadsheet, database, presentation e-Mail and Web browser software. Examples of application software are Microsoft Word, MicrosoftExcel, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.

3.2) EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE Apache A web server program (for supplying pages in response to requests) used in most web server computers and available for Windows as well as Linux and other UNIX systems. Apache Tomcat 7.0.19 is the latest version and released in Jul 13 2011. Postfix Postfix is an email server program (for sending and receiving email) supporting SMTP and available for Linux and other UNIX systems. KOffice 2.3.3 is the latest version which was released in March. Its able to now properly open LibreOffice documents and A fix to the loss of docker visibility when closing an application on the startup.

4.1) HARDWARE FLASH DRIVE A flash drive is a small storage device that can be used to transport files from one computer to another Flash drive has a smaller size and easy to carry anywhere. Flash drive can accommodate a variety of documents from thefloppy disk.

4.2) SOFTWARE GNOME 2.32 is the latest version of the GNOME Desktop. Its a popular, multi-platform desktop environment for computer. GNOME's focus is ease of use, stability, and first-class internationalization and accessibility support. GNOME is Free and Open Source Software and provides all of the common tools computer users expect of a modern computing environment, such as email, groupware, web browsing, file management, multimedia, and games. GNOME provides a flexible and powerful platform for software developers, both on the desktop and in mobile applications.

5.0) PERVASIVE COMPUTING

5.1) MEANING OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING The idea that technology is moving beyond the personal computer to everyday devices with embedded technology and connectivity as computing devices become progressively smaller and more powerful. Its including PDAs, smartphones and other
mobile devices. It also refers to computers contained in commonplace objects such as cars and appliances and implies that people are unaware of their presence.

Pervasive computing aims to make our lives simpler through the use of tools that allow us to manage information easily. These "tools" are a new class of intelligent, portable devices that allow the user to plug into powerful networks and gain direct, simple, and secure access to both relevant information and services. Pervasive computing devices are not personal computers as we tend to think of them, but very tiny - even invisible - devices, either mobile or embedded in almost any type of object imaginable; all communicating through increasingly interconnected networks. Information instantly accessible anywhere and anytime is what Pervasive Computing is all about.

5.2) EXAMPLE OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING CELL PHONE Cell phone or hand phone is an electronic device used to make mobile telephone calls across a wide geographic area, served by many public cells, allowing the user to be mobile. By contrast, a cordless telephone is used only within the range of a single, privatebase station, for example within a home or an office. iPAD The iPad is a line of tablet computers designed, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games, and web content. Its size and weight falls between those of contemporary smartphones and laptop computers.

6.0) CONCLUSION Although ICT brings along many advantages and convenience to our daily life, theystill have some disadvantages if we misuse it, so we must use it wisely and ethically to createa healthy computer society so that the economy of our country can be improve followed bythe life standard of Malaysian.
