RED TACTON IN BIOMETRICS

1.ABSTRACT Red Tacton is a Human Area Networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. The human body acts as a transmission medium supporting half-duplex communication at 10Mbit/s. It uses the small electric field on the surface of the human body and then uses this electric field for further transmissions. Red Tacton takes wireless communication a step further by replacing the radio waves used for transmission over Bluetooth, IR and similar technologies with the minute electrical field emitted by the human body. This technology paves the way for a new breed of access control systems that are not based on remote controls or access cards that rely on radio waves that could be interfered with. This paper deals with usage of Red Tacton in biometrics by placing a bio-chip inside the wrist. The person with the chip is only 2.INTRODUCTION NTT, the Japanese telecoms group, and the team of scientists invented the Red Tacton system. "Tacton" refers to the communication starts by touching (Touch), leading to various actions (Act on). We then added the color red to convey the meaning of warmth in communication. Combining these phrases led to the name, "Red Tacton". Human Area Networking (HAN), a network allowed to open the door or access the data. If this technology is implemented, it will be the safest technology to be used for biometrics. The weak electric field used does not affect the human body. The connection is not initiated until the person physically touches two different Red Tacton-enabled devices, when the person touches the device the circuit is fulfilled, and then authentication is verified. This technology can be used where there is need of high security. Red Tacton could be installed on doors, cabinets and other locations calling for secure access, such that each secure access could be initiated and authenticated with a simple touch. At the same time, all the transaction details and relevant user attributes (personal identity, security clearance, etc.) could be logged by the security system.

where communication takes place via Red Tacton transceivers embedded in devices like PCs and cameras and in tags carried in. The connection is not initiated until the person physically touches two different Red Tacton-enabled devices, say, a laptop and a printer. Red Tacton does not require the electrode be in direct contact with the skin. High-speed communication is possible between two arbitrary points on the body. Red Tacton enables new generation of user interface based on totally natural human actions such as touching, holding, sitting, walking, or stepping on a particular spot. In the past, Bluetooth, infrared communications (IrDA), radio frequency ID systems (RFID), and other technologies have been proposed to solve the last meter connectivity problem

However, they each have various fundamental technical limitations that constrain their usage, such as the precipitous fall-off in transmission speed in multi-user environments producing network congestion. Human Area Networks performs communication within the much smaller sphere of ordinary daily activities the last one meter. NTTs Red Tacton is a breakthrough technology that, for the first time, enables reliable high-speed HAN which provides uninterrupted services based on

human-centered interactions and therefore more intimate and easier for people to use. A Red Tacton transmitter couples with extremely weak electric fields on the surface of the body. The weak electric fields pass through the body to a Red Tacton receiver, where the weak electric fields affect the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal. The extent to which the optical properties are changed is detected by laser light which is then converted to an electrical signal by a detector circuit. 3.WORKING Red Tacton takes a different technical approach. Instead of relying on electromagnetic waves or light waves to carry data, Red Tacton uses weak electric fields on the surface of the body as a transmission medium. Using a new supersensitive photonic electric field sensor, Red Tacton can achieve duplex communication over the human body at a maximum speed of 10 Mbps. 1. The Red Tacton transmitter induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body. 2. The Red Tacton receiver senses changes in the weak electric field on the surface of the body caused by the transmitter.

3. Red Tacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field. 4. Red Tacton detects changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal using a laser and converts the result to an electrical signal in a optical receiver circuit.

transmission path established between the body of a person carrying a Red Tacton card key and a Red Tacton transceiver installed in, for example, a doorknob or floor. The person is automatically identified when they touch the doorknob or walk on the floor, and the transmission path is disconnected when the body and transceiver physically separate. With this technology we can lock our house by just touching the door knob. The transmission doesnt enter the skin but is merely carried across the surface, not exposing the user to more electricity. In addition, the transceiver is covered with an insulation layer. In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media. Also carrying a mobile Red Tacton-capable device in ones pocket, ID is verified and the door unlocked when the user holds the doorknob personal normally. verification Secure tools such lock administration is possible by combining as fingerprint ID or other biometric in the mobile terminal. If this technology

compared to transmission technologies using radio waves - is that transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested areas where many people are communicating at the same time. A Red Tacton receiver in a cabinet where important documents are stored enables lock administration and keeps a record of who accessed documents at what time. Carrying a mobile Red Tacton-capable device in one's pocket, ID is verified and the door unlocked when the user holds the doorknob normally. Outside the office, Red Tacton offers a host of communication options that might come in really handy. For example, it lets you transfer pictures from your camera just by touching the PC while the camera is around your neck. And since data can pass from one human body to another, you may also swap electronic business cards by shaking hands. 7. CONCLUSION Human society is entering an era of ubiquitous computing, when networks are seamlessly interconnected and information is always accessible at our fingertips. Red Tacton is a break-through technology that, for the first time, enables reliable high-speed HAN. The advent of Red Tacton technology by NTT is in itself revolutionary, which will

implemented, then this will be great milestone in the field of biometrics. 6. ADVANTAGES

likely be targeted for use in applications such as wireless headphones, wearable medical devices, security applications, point-of-sale interactions etc. This could get as simple as two people equipped with Red

Tacton devices being able to exchange data just by shaking hands. Red Tacton will emerge as a technology that we use in our day to day life in the near future.
