System Requirements =================== Make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed in this section. If your computer doesn't match up to most of these requirements, you might have a problem using the contents of the CD. Using the CD ============ To install the items from the CD to your hard drive, follow these steps: 1. Insert the CD into your computer s CD-ROM drive. A window appears, displaying the License Agreement. 2. Click Accept to continue. Another window appears with the following buttons (which are explained in greater detail in the next section of this chapter): Excel 2003 Bible: Click this button to view an eBook version of the book as well as any author-created content specific to the book, such as templates and sample files. Bonus software ============== The CD contains software distributed in various forms: shareware, freeware, GNU software, trials, demos, and evaluation versions. The following list explains how these software versions differ: * Shareware programs: Fully functional, trial versions of copyrighted programs. If you like particular programs, you can register with its authors for a nominal fee and receive licenses, enhanced versions, and technical support. Freeware programs: Copyrighted games, applications, and utilities that are free for personal use. Unlike shareware, these programs do not require a fee or provide technical support. GNU software: Software governed by its own license, which is included inside the folder of the GNU product. See the GNU license for more details. Trial, demo, or evaluation versions: Software usually limited either by time or functionality, such as not permitting you to save projects. Some trial versions are very sensitive to system date changes. If you alter your computer s date, the programs may time out and no longer be functional.

Software highlights =================== Here are descriptions of just a few of the programs available on the CD: * Power Utility Pak v5: From J-Walk & Associates, PUP v5 is a unique collection of add-ins that brings significant new functionality to Excel. Requires Excel 2000 or later. This is a 30-day trial version. For more information, go to http://j-walk.com/ss Convert Cell Reference Utility: This handy-dandy utility helps you convert the cell reference of a formulas to any form of absolute reference.

Excel Tetris v1.1: This spreadsheet contains a fully functional game. It doesn't compare to the real arcade version of Tetris, but it is a good way to have fun at the office while looking busy. Gantt Chart Builder (Excel): This product helps you create professional quality Gantt charts in Excel and then export them in either image or spreadsheet format.

Close all running programs. The more programs you're running, the less memory is available to other programs. Installers also typically update files and programs; if you keep other programs running, installation might not work properly. Set macro security to low. This will be necessary when installing PowerPoint add-ins such as RnRPPTools, Shyam's Toolbox, and so on. The macro security settings can be found under Tools-->Macro--> Security. Be sure to reset the macro security level to high when you've finished installing the addins.
