1.0 Introduction to Networks and Communications

2

A computer network and communication is defined as a collection of computers and devices connect by communications channels that facilitates communications among users and allows users to share resources with other users. Communications is referred as the exchange of thoughts messages or information as by speech, signals, writing or behavior. Computer network is important for wide range communications, low cost communication and high reliability by having multiple sources of supply.

2.0 MOBILE COMPUTING

3

What is mobile computing? Mobile computing is taking a computer and all necessary files and software out into the field. It is mean that being able to use a computing device even when being mobile and therefore changing location. Portability is one aspect of mobile computing.

3.1 INTERNET TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES

5

VoIP Short for Voice over Internet Protocol, a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the PSTN.

Blog A blog (a combination of the term web log) is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

4.0 TYPES OF NETWORKS

PAN (Personal Area Network) A personal area network (PAN) is a computer network used for communication among computer and different information technological devices close to one person. Some examples of devices that are used in a PAN are personal computers, printers, fax machines, telephones, PDAs, scanners, and even video game consoles. A PAN may include wired and wireless devices. The reach of a PAN typically extends to 10 meters. A wired PAN is usually constructed with USB and Firewire connections while technologies such as Bluetooth and infrared communication typically form a wireless PAN. VPN (Virtual Private Network) Short for virtual private network, a network that is constructed by using public wires to connect nodes. For example, there are a number of systems that enable you to create networks using the Internet as the medium for transporting data. These systems use encryption and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.

LAN (Local Area Network)

LAN a communications network that provides connectivity to wireless devices within a limited geographic area. "Wi-Fi" is the universal standard for wireless networks and is the wireless equivalent of wired Ethernet networks. In the office, Wi-Fi networks are adjuncts to the wired networks. At home, a Wi-Fi network can serve as the only network since all laptops and many printers come with Wi-Fi built in, and Wi-Fi can be added to desktop computer.

WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) A wireless local area network (WLAN) links two or more devices using some wireless distribution method (typically spread-spectrum or OFDM radio), and usually providing a connection through an access point to the wider internet. This gives users the mobility to move around within a local coverage area and still be connected to the network. Wireless LANs have become popular in the home due to ease of installation, and the increasing to offer wireless access to their customers; often for free. Large wireless network projects are being put up in many major cities: New York City, for instance, has begun a pilot program to provide city workers in all five boroughs of the city with wireless Internet access.

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) WiMAX is a telecommunications protocol that provides fixed and mobile Internet access.

CONCLUSION
Computer network communications gives us a lot of advantages .it enables us to share devices such as printers and enables us to share program or software. It also enables us to share files, data information and single high speed internet connection. We can also get access server centered database and can get better communication using internet services such as e-mail.
