GS Motor T Company
With approximately two months of combat operations left on our deployment, the Marines and Sailors continue to work long hours and dedicate themselves to mission accomplishment. The Marines are working tirelessly, preparing, and executing a variety of demanding missions throughout the Helmand Province. Our vehicles have taken a beating from constant use in the 115 degree heat, and continuous exposure to dust, which characterize the conditions in Southern Afghanistan. Due to the diligent efforts of the Marines, especially the Marines of our Maintenance Section, the company consistently maintains operational readiness over 90%. The Marines and Sailors of GSMT Company take pride in their hard work, knowing that more they labor at Camp Leatherneck, the smoother their missions outside the wire will be. Some of the Marines have begun to count down the days until out company leaves Afghanistan, but all Marines continue to dedicate themselves to accomplishing their mission on a daily basis. Our company has become a tight knit family since we formed up in December 2010. The Marines have persevered through countless obstacles and worked diligently over this time. One of the key elements that have enabled the Marines and Sailors to achieve the success expected of them is the support they receive from you at home. It is a critical element of our operational success. On behalf of the company, I would like to extend my most sincere thanks for your unconditional and enduring support. Semper Fidelis, First Lieutenant Benjamin Schramm, 3rd Platoon Commander As we head into the 3rd quarter, all the Marines and Sailors have been doing a superb job. Please continue to send gifts and care packages to the Marines. Packages from the states have a significant impact on morale and give everyone a taste of home, which we are looking forward to getting back to. Please check out our Battalions Face book page for pictures and updates. Respectively, Capt Minella M.C. Company Commander
H&S CO, 1stSgt Family and Friends, In the time honored tradition of our Founding Fathers, we celebrated Independence Day! We paused to remember our fallen and honor their sacrifices by celebrating the freedoms we enjoy today. We got a little taste of home with horse shoes, softball, and volleyball games and topped it off with a good old American barbeque. Our Marines and Sailors led the way this month and several were recognized for their efforts. Gunnery Sergeant Pasquale Coniglio, Corporal Christopher Hernandez, and Corporal Lawrence Lee were promoted to present rank. Hospital Corpsman First Class Beverly Glauber was selected as 2d MLG Senior Sailor of the Quarter. Corporal William Platt IV was selected as 2d MSB Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter. Lance Corporal Brittany Sims was selected as 2d MSB Marine of the Quarter. Congratulations on a job well done! As we conclude this month of the deployment, our Marine and Sailors are keeping their head in the game and continuing to provide the best support they can to our Marines and Sailors out in the battlefield! Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Semper Fidelis, 1stSgt Rachel L. Eltz
SURGICAL CO
Greetings families, friends and loved ones. The deployment is rapidly getting closer to completion and the Warriors of Alpha Surgical continue their trusted duty of caring for Coalition Forces and all those in need. This month we had the opportunity to celebrate our nations birthday and a poignant reminder of why we serve. Due to the time it takes for mail and packages to arrive we suggest stop sending items to your loved ones as they may be missed in transit. As our mind turns to Camp Lejeune, home and family we remain focused on the task at hand. Please continue to send words of encouragement to your Sailor or Marine and keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
MAINTENANCE COMPANY CO
Hello family and friends. I must say, its hard to believe were finishing up our fourth month in country. The Marines have maintained a high state of motivation and continue to work extremely hard. And let me tell you it is hard to do both but your Marines are maintaining. I personally could not be more proud of a bunch of young men and women. Oh, I almost forget about the few older Marines we have. They know who they are. Its funny last month I had mentioned how our Marines have made a difference, they still are! I have never received so many compliments from other Battalion Commanders as they see our Marines fixing gear in there lots. Here are a couple of examples. Battalion Commander from 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion personally came to the Intermediate Maintenance Activity Lot to present coins to four of our Marines. I got an email with two Letters of Appreciation from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269. These are only a few of the examples. As our time here in county starts to shorten I will guarantee one thing, our Marines will know they have made a difference in supporting Regional Command (SW). This month has been a very productive month as far as getting gear fixed. The good thing is we didnt receive as many broken pieces. We had a couple of VIPs come tour the IMA this past month. Every time we have VIPs come through they are simply amazed at what we can do and how quickly we can complete those repairs. Not only did the VIPs notice it but so do those units in Regional Command (SW) that own the gear which we are repairing for them. Even though we were not home to celebrate the 4th of July, II MEF was able to help us celebrate this occasion. One thing I would like to tell you is we had a great 4th of July. II MEF (FWD) put on a great day for all Marines and Sailors aboard Camp Leatherneck. This day consisted of softball, volleyball, horse shoes and a BBQ that lasted all day. It was a great day for our Marines just to loosen up and have a little fun. Later that night the II MEF band playedwere they good?! Thank you for the continual support to our Marines and Maintenance Company during this deployment. You could not imagine how much it impacts the morale of our Marines. Please keep it up and as always look forward to seeing you all upon our return. Semper Fidelis Captain Michael Gasperini
Supply Company
Greetings once again family and friends! The Marines and Sailors of Supply Company here at Camp Leatherneck hope the month of July finds you well and that you all had a great Fourth of July. We started the Fourth of July celebration with a special flag raising ceremony followed by a morning/afternoon sports tournament. Units competed in softball, volleyball, horseshoes, and the bean bag toss. Congratulations to the following Marines from Ammo Platoon who claimed the volleyball title: Sgt Obrien, Cpl Makowski, Cpl Triplett, Cpl Gigante, Cpl Heald, Cpl Monshaugan, and LCpl Pettigrew. Congratulations also to HM1 Lawson and Warrant Officer Sines for bringing home the gold in the Bean Bag Toss. Major General Toolan and Sergeant Major Jones presented the awards to each of the Marines and Sailors who were victorious. The evening concluded with a live concert put on by local talented Marines and Sailors here aboard Camp Leatherneck. As we look ahead to the near future, Supply Company will continue to work hard knowing that only a few months separate us from a well deserved time of rest and being reunited with family and friends. This time in a deployment can be referred to as gut check time. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter, but it is important for us to stay focused and continue to give our very best support to the warfighter until our time here is finished. Supply Company intends to do just that. The Marines and Sailors are giving their best day in and day out. They are able to do this because of the continued support from each of you back home. Your prayers, phone calls, e-mails, and postal packages are all essential factors that help keep our unit morale high. Thank you all for your support. Thank you for the many sacrifices that you continue to endure while your Marines and Sailors are answering Americas call. Soon this deployment will be behind us and we will have many fond memories (i.e. the Supply Company Talent Show) and maybe a few not-so-fond memories (i.e. Port-A-Jons - enough said) to share with you and vice versa. Until then take pride in the fact that your Marines and Sailors are honorably and faithfully serving their country. Semper Fidelis!
Chaplains Corner
Greetings Family and Friends, This past week three other female leaders 1st Sgt Eltz, GySgt Gause, GySgt Nicholson and I provided our lady Marines with some sagacious advice regarding struggles that are unique to women in the military. We talked about standards, encouragement, accountability and the need to set appropriate boundaries. As we consider where we are in the deployment, it is our desire to finish strong. We want to do everything possible to ensure our success especially with the end of deployment in our sights. We challenged each other to take the time to recalibrate, reassess and recalculate our thinking to ensure we are headed in the right direction. In a recent reading in one of my devotional books, it tells a story of two friends on a road trip. They were using their GPS navigation system. They were driving along and they accidentally made a wrong turn and the GPS system said in that unnatural robotic voice, Recalculating Route. I am sure most of you have heard a GPS say these very same words or something very similar. I for one am very happy to have my GPS especially when my husband is driving because the GPS system always proves that I was right! The point of the brief was a challenge to listen to our own internal GPS system. We all desire to stay on right track but, sometimes life events puts up a barrier, throws us a detour or maybe a delay. Even with all the best equipment available, if we are not careful, we can still get lost. Marines know without a doubt how extremely important it is to stay on track especially when traveling in a convoy considering the many traps designed to ensnare us set by a insidious and ruthless enemy. The internal GPS system is there for guidance to help us make the best choices. The devotional stated that The Spirit of the living God that dwells within us guides us to doctrine which tells us which road to travel; reproof tells us when we are off the road; correction tells us how to get back on; instruction in righteousness tells us how to stay on Gods road. And, the moment that we veer off our own, the Spirit of God is recalculating and urging us to return to the right road. At this very moment, what is your GPS system telling you? If youre internal GPS system is saying Recalculating Route, listen for the appropriate direction to return to the right road where there is protection, refuge and strengthen from a God that loves you and wants very much for each or us to reach our lifes goal and purpose. The Lords Service, Chaplain Green
