Thank You, Joshua

This morning, Josh Manning will be preaching in the worship assembly. I am away at Polishing the Pulpit this week. This event is something I have looked forward to for a long time, but it will be hard to miss the going away party for Josh tonight. Josh has done a tremendous job working with JD this summer. He has been a delight around the offices each day, and has helped our young people grow closer to Christ. Under JDs leadership, Josh has helped in dozens of programs throughout the last three months, and we will miss his input and positive attitude. We are proud to let you know that Josh will begin working as the pulpit minister for the Clearview church of Christ in Lyles, Tennessee, in a few weeks. This morning, you will get to hear just a small reason why he was asked by that congregation to be their pulpit minister. Following the services tonight, there will be a reception in Joshs honor. I know you will want to attend and wish him well. Again, we thank Josh for his work, and we need to pray that our summer interns continue to be

as helpful and influential as we have been blessed to have in recent years. I am thankful that our interns get to work with JD each summer. We are blessed to have JD working with us, and the program he has in place for our young people both builds up as well as provides opportunities for fun and interaction. Have you thanked JD lately for all that he does? On Friday, Lebanon Road will be hosting the Middle Tennessee Gospel Singing. Make sure you are here for that. We look forward to being back on Thursday, so we are looking forward to singing with brothers and sisters from all over Middle Tennessee on Friday night. As I mentioned, I will be away today at Polishing the Pulpit. This week of lessons and fellowship is encouraging and informative. It is my prayer that what is learned this week will help me serve you even better in the future. I also pray that some from Lebanon Road will choose to attend this wonderful event in future years.

Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM

New Class this Fall

Beginning next month we will again be offering the "Crisis Care, Hope for the Hurting" class on Wednesday evenings. This is a video series by Dr. H. Norman Wright that deals with things that cause grief, such as the loss of a loved one, job loss, health issues, divorce or relationships. It also gives instructions for those that would like to learn better how to assist others in times of grief, such as what to say and do as well as what not to say and do during the various stages of the grieving process. We also want to invite others including relatives, friends, neighbors or anyone you know that might have an interest in these classes. It is also open for those who have already par-

ticipated and would like to increase their skills in caring for others. The class will meet in the fellowship hall and those attending will not assemble in the auditorium but go directly to class for a brief devotional followed by the videos. This will allow more time to accommodate the videos. A sign up sheet has been placed in the foyer so that we may know how much material will be needed. For more information, see either Philip Denny or Joe Adams.

GOD HAS SPOKEN
The Bible is Gods word written. The Bible affirms that about itself (2 Timothy 3:16-17). When we read the Bible, then, we are not just reading what Paul, Isaiah, or John were clever enough to compose but what God was good enough to make known, about Himself and His will. When we recognize that, it makes a difference in how we receive it (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Since God, who made us, loved us and gave His unique Son for us, has revealed Himself and His will for us, we want to please Him by doing whatever he indicates He wants His people to do. That view of Scripture is ultimately the main difference between Christians only and other religious people. The Bible is God speaking; therefore everything he says in it matters. Virtually everyone recognizes baptism as taught originally by Jesus and the apostles is a burial in water for the remission of sins. The big question is, Does that matter? That the New Testament church met on the first day of every week to partake of the Lords supper is believed by most people. The big question is, Does that matter? That the New Testament church sang and instrumental music was not used in and by churches until the sixth century A.D. is a known historical fact. The big question is, Does that matter? That is the difference. We believe God said it; therefore, it matters. (From Preacher Talk published by Faulkner University)

Joshs Jargon
After spending an awesome summer here with the Lebanon Road church of Christ, I feel like I better understand what James said when he spoke of life as a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away (Jms. 4:14). This summer has been so much fun but it seems to have gone by far too quickly. I am so thankful for the chance that this congregation has given me to be part of a wonderful Christian family. Although I have worked as your summer intern, I feel as though this church has given me, taught me, and loved me far more than I could ever hope to give back. And so I thank you all for making me feel so welcome and loved especially the youth group! Since Im not moving that far away I hope to see you soon; however, leaving will still be sad for me. I love you all so much and I know that God will continue to do incredible things with this church! Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you (2 Cor. 13:11)
