2010 Daffodil Days Recap

Daffodil Days is one of the American Cancer Societys oldest and most beloved fundraising programs. As the first flower of spring, the daffodil represents hope and renewal. To the American Cancer Society, the daffodil symbolizes the hope we all share for a future where cancer no longer threatens those we love. Each spring, the Society offers daffodils to donors in appreciation for a contribution. By sending bunches of daffodils to friends, family members, and people touched by cancer, you are sharing a message of hope and raising funds and awareness to help defeat cancer. The 37th annual American Cancer Society Daffodil Days campaign in Pennsylvania was another success due to the hard work and generosity of our many volunteers and sponsors. In 2010, our Pennsylvania Daffodil Days program raised $3.8 million with over 44,000 orders placed. This is quite a tough task given the current economic climate, but our pre-sale coordinators and volunteers at schools, businesses, hospitals and religious organizations were determined to make a difference by coordinating sales in advance and delivering millions of daffodils to spread hope to those who have been touched by cancer. The adorable Birthdays R. Hope, the sixth in an exclusive Boyds Bear collection for the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days Bear and a Bunch, was a huge hit amongst Daffodil Days supporters! She helped to raise $677,778 with more than 7,941 orders placed. Additionally, Project Care and Gift of Hope offerings directly impacted cancer patients and children in need located in communities across the state by delivering anonymous vases of flowers through Gift of Hope and bears through Project Care to comfort them during a difficult time. Approximately 5000 bears were delivered through Project Care, raising more than $117,800. Gift of Hope orders raised more than $85,000 with a total of 6,000 offerings. With your help, the American Cancer Society is saving lives. Together, were helping people stay well by educating and empowering people to live healthy lives and reduce their cancer risk. Through our many programs and services, were also helping people facing cancer get well and find the help they need to make decisions and overcome obstacles in their personal cancer fight. As the largest private funder of cancer research, were leading the way in finding cancers causes and cures. And were helping people fight back against cancer and advocate for laws to keep families healthy and improve access to health care for everyoneregardless of income. Thank you for helping to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Were looking forward to a great American Cancer Society Daffodil Days campaign in 2011!

We strive to translate what we know about prevention into what we do about prevention. We encourage people to help us avoid more than half of all cancer deaths by doing what we know works eating well, staying active, avoiding tobacco, and having regular cancer screenings. We are working to make cancer a thing of the past to save lives by helping people stay well.

Were helping people fight back.

The American Cancer Society has changed the fight against cancer from an individual struggle to a collective movement for real and lasting change.
