Office scene: Raj is sitting on a chair in his cubicle and waiting for his friend (AMIT). Animation. Animation Stops focused on Raj: Side message displayed: Raj: An ITC Employee. (Raj while seating on the chair and waiting for his friend looking bit uncomfortable.) Suddenly Amit comes to the office. Animation Stops focused on Amit: In Side text message appears: Amit: Rajs friend and EHS Manager by profession. Raj: Welcome in ITC AMIT, just waiting for you, how was your journey? Amit: Yes that was good. But Raj, you are looking very uncomfortable, is everything alright? Raj: Yes everything is right except this back pain its dull but continuous. It gets worse as the day progresses. Amit: What you think, who is to blame? Raj: You too know Amit, its long working on computers and continuous sitting in the Office. Amit: No I dont think so, its not just long working hours in office but you are also equally responsible for your bad health. Raj: How so? Amit: Because of your wrong sitting habits and improper ergonomics. Sure just think a while about your sitting posture and take a look at your workplace. It's such a mess. You have created ergonomic stressors. The camera pans across the scattered and messed up workplace. Raj: Ergonomics stressor! What Ergonomic stressor? Indeed whats this Ergonomics? Amit: Let me explain: Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance. And ..
An ergonomic stressor is an unsuitable element in the workplace that leads to stress in the human body. A variety of elements like Wrong Computer setup, Wrong Office/desktop layout, repetitious or strenuous activities and improper illumination can create ergonomic stressors. These can turn into serious physical problems like MSD (Musculoskeletal Disorders) CTD (Cumulative Trauma Disorders) CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).

Raj looks up at Amit. Raj: So what to do? Amit: There are a number of easy ways to avoid these ergonomic stressors maintain your workplace and keep correct postures. Lets start from correct sitting posture:

Raj looks up at Amit. Raj looks up at Amit.

The slide of ergonomic seating dissolves in will contain the pics with background voice Neck-Eye level should be horizontally aligned with the top of the monitor. The distance from the eyes to the screen should be 65-75 cm. Arms-Position the armrests 0.5 below the working elbow height. Keep frequently used items within 16 of the body. Wrists/Hands-Elbow and wrist should be the Amite height. The keyboard should be flat or tilted slightly away from the employee. Hands should float over the keyboard when typing, not rest on the palm rest. Back-Both upper and lower back should make contact with backrest, with the backrest height adjusted to fit the curvature of the spine. Feet-Feet should be flat on the floor or in full contact with a footrest. Here are some more tipsy Use an adjustable chair. Get comfortable with its features and make adjustments regularly. y Rest your eyes periodically by focusing on an object 20+ feet away. y Stand and stretch your back and arms from time to time y Position whatever you are looking at most of the time (the screen or reference material) directly in front of you to minimize turning your head. y Remember that even if your workstation is set up properly, you can still get muscle fatigue from being in the Amite position for too long. y Be sure to periodically adjust your monitor, keyboard or chair to stay flexible AMIT: Did you know that sitting in the same position and typing all day is exposing your body to repeated trauma. Carpal tunnel syndrome is only one disorder caused by cumulative or repetitive trauma. Other joint areas such as the neck, shoulders, knees, elbows, etc. are vulnerable to similar problems. Raj (looks worried and confused) Raj: So I have to go to a doctor now just because I work in an office. AMIT: No need to go to such extremes for now. A few simple exercises and stretching can benefit the entire body. Animations: Deep BreathingWhile standing, or in an otherwise relaxed position place one hand on the abdomen and one on the chest inhale slowly through the nose hold for 4 seconds exhale slowly through the mouth. Repeat 3 times. Dissolve back to Raj and Amit in the office. Raj: Wow. Avoid unnecessary medication and stay healthy. I'll set up a schedule for these exercises right away.

AMIT: Just don't overexert yourself. Both Laugh.. Amit: Raj that was about correct sitting posture and ergonomic exercise but there are lots of other safety measures which we need to be take care of Raj: What are these Safety measures and why these measures are required? Amit: Raj, let me explain, look despite common beliefs that the office provides us a safe environment, there are many hazards which exist and cause thousands of injuries and health problems every year among office workers. Since one-third of the work force is in offices, even low rates of work-related injuries and illnesses can have an immense impact on employees safety and health. So it is necessary to be safe and adopt safety measures/procedures in the offices. I am telling you Amite reasons why these Safety measures are required in Offices: Life is involved as lots of people working in the office. Lots of combustible material like furniture's, documents, decorative materials etc is present. Lots of electrical and AC work in the office. Lots of important documents. Lots of valuable assets. Electrical room, Server room and Pantry. Raj: Amit, plz explain in details what are these Hazards: Amit: Raj lets start from your place itself, See your cubicle in such a messy condition (camera focuses to cubicle), it should be clean plz remember there should be place for everything and everything should be in its place From one power socket you are charging your mobile, I pod as well as mobile phone (camera focuses to power socket), its very dangerous it could cause short circuit and could lead to Fire. Raj: What should I do if there is only one power socket near my seat? Amit: Plz contact your Administrative Officer or HR manager for increasing the no. of power sockets in your area. But dont do overloading. Raj: OK, I understood, I will not do it again, first of all I am unplugging my mobile and I pod from socket (Raj was unplugging the equipments) Amit: Raj what are you doing, first of all switch off the power supply and then unplugged the equipments it could cause fire because of sparking. Raj: Alright Amit. Is there anything else? Amit: Yes, there are some more safety measures we need to adopt, like: Just written messages: y No smoking in the office. y Do not throw the cigarette butts in the trash bins. y Do not feed the wire in socket without the Pin/plug. y Do not lay the wire on the floors/ pathways. y Wires should not be in entangled position. y Do not place objects close to fire extinguishers, fire hydrants or fire alarms.

Do not block the emergency exit gates/passageways. Do not touch electrical equipments with the wet hands. Do not try to do electrical work by your own, always call the competent person. Do not enter in the electrical Room/server room unnecessarily and if needed take the help of Authorized person. Computers, printers and other electrical equipment should be switched off from the socket when not in use. Do not pile boxes, papers, books, or other heavy objects on top of file cabinets; this could cause cabinet to tip and the materials to avalanche on to the employee. Razor blades, thumb tacks, and other sharp objects should not be thrown loosely into drawers. Where materials are stored on shelves, the heavy objects should be on the lower shelves. Reaching for high objects while standing on a stack of boxes or a chair with wheels is dangerous. Always use a suitable ladder or step stool. Commonly, falls on stairs occur when the person is talking, laughing and turning to friends while going downstairs. Be alert while using stairways, hold the railings while on the stairs. Do not store flammable liquids in the office like petrol, kerosene, paints and thinners. Do not lean back in a chair with your feet on a desk. Do not scoot across the floor while sitting on a chair. Hold onto chair seats/arms when attempting to sit. Never stand on a chair to reach an overhead object. Open only one file drawer at a time. Always use a staple remover. Never test a jammed stapler with your thumb Pencils, pens, scissors, etc. - Store sharp objects in a drawer or with the point down. Never hand someone a sharp object point first. Walk like a duck on slippery surfaces. Walk, dont run. Wear comfortable footwear with a low heel to reduce leg and back strain & to help prevent slips and falls.

Raj: So if I make sure that everyone in the office knows about these simple procedures then there will be no accident right? Amit: No, its not so, even the best laid plans and procedures can sometimes fail. A major accident of fire like what happened in one renowned court in recent days may occur in our Office too so its better to be prepared for them. Here are a few plans to deal with such type of emergencies. Always know the following: Emergency Evacuation Plan and floor marshals and their contact nos. (Animation required showing escape route etc) Your nearest emergency exit. The locations of fire extinguishers nearest to your workplace. The alarm signal - the continuous ringing of alarm bells of the building We could have an office layout on the screen which highlights each of the above points when they are mentioned. If you here the Fire/emergency alarm horn. When the alarm horn sounds, all in the building must evacuate immediately. Evacuation Procedures: (text messages) Don't panic. Look for the nearest exit sign and evacuate. Do not waste your time in collecting your belongings

Do not use the elevators, use the staircase. (Photo required) Cover your face with wet cloth like handkerchief, shirt, curtains etc. Scroll down to the floor as the smoke travels upwards. (Photos required) If possible wet your body. Raj: But what do I do when I discover the fire: Amit: If you discover a fire activate the nearest fire alarm/ MCP and alert those around you by shouting FIRE FIRE or other effective means. (Animation for activating MCP) If the fire is small, try to use a fire extinguisher to put it out. Do so only if you're not risking anyone's safety, including your own. (Animation for how to use fire extinguisher) Do not try to extinguish fire if do not know the correct method and suitability of fire extinguisher on that fire. Do not apply water on electrical fire. Evacuate via the nearest exit. If your cloth catches fire, STOP, DROP & ROLL to put them out. (Animation required) Alert the fire team of your area or call fire brigade at 101. Assembly Point: As soon as you leave the building, go to the designated assembly area (see the Emergency Evacuation and Operations Plan) and report to the Floor Marshals so that s/he knows you are safely out of the building. Do not disperse or re-enter the building until instructed to do so. As the last frame dissolves Raj appears again in the main frame. Raj: Amit, sorry to interrupt you but I dont know how to operate the fire extinguisher. Amit: Its easy I will explain you: Amit: But before that you should know the different classes of Fire so that you could chose the right extinguishing media or fire extinguisher to extinguish/control the fire. Then chart will appear showing classes of fire. Amit: No I will tell you how to operate fire extinguisher (animated operation of fire extinguisher). Raj: One thing more if no one spots the fire like if fire happens in no man area like server room then how will we come to know about the fire: Amit: Good question Raj, now plz see to the ceiling there are smoke detectors (camera focuses to smoke detector on ceiling), these detects the smoke and sound the alarm automatically, as soon as you here the alarm you have to just follow the evacuation procedure as I explained you earlier.
Raj: I got it. If these ideas are communicated and followed by all the employees it will ensure a better work environment which is prepared to take on any emergency. Thanks a lot! Raj: Hey Amit, In this interesting session I forgot to ask you about tea or coffee, plz come will have something. Amit: Its good idea Raj, I needed it. Amit: Wait harry plz close all your drawers because anyone could fall because open drawers obstruct the passage way. (Both way forward towards Coffee/tea vending machine)

In the way Amit saw lots of material stored in front of the Fire extinguisher (Animation required)

Amit: Raj, its not a good practice to block the Fire point as in case of emergency we will not get the clear passage to get the Fire Extinguisher and which will increase the fire respond time. (Both reached to Coffee/tea vending m/c) there was lots of liquid spillage because of coffee and tea Amit; Raj, take a look there is a lot of spillage anyone could slip because of these slippery surface. Raj: You are absolutely right, Raj calls up housekeeping guy and make the surface clean. Both took the sip of tea. Raj: Amit would you like to have a look of my Office... Amit: Yes, why not, Raj: See Amit its our Reception, Conference room (Amit saw lights were open, AC was running), Electrical roomsuddenly Amit interrupts Raj. Raj: What happened Amit? Amit: Its a main electrical room we should not enter in this room as we are not the expert, we can hurt/injured our self if we touch any electrical equipment or by mistake we could stop the electrical supply or any other electrical operation which could interrupt Office work. While roaming in the Office Amit saw some group of people (GOP) gathered near the emergency exit gate.(animation) Amit to GOP: Hi everybody, myself Amit (I am an EHS Manager) I want to tell you one thing GOP: Plz tell us: Amit: You know its emergency exit gate? GOP: Some says yes and some people tell no Amit: Let me tell you, Emergency Exit gates are the gates which are used to evacuate the place and exit during emergencies. GOP: OK we understood, but what you want to tell us Amit: Because this is an Emergency Exit gate you people should not block these gates, this passage and gate should always be free from obstructions and easily accessible. And not only by us people but it should not be obstructed by storing material in front of the exit gats and in passageways. GOP: Say thanks to Amit and evacuate the place. Raj and Amit completes the Office round Amit: Raj the Office is very goodI enjoyed a lot Raj: Yes Amit, you enjoyed a lot and I learnt a lot from you, like: What Ergonomics is, About Ergonomics Stressor, Correct sitting posture,

Work station housekeeping, Safety measures and their requirement, Emergency evacuation procedures, Classes of Fire, How to operate fire extinguisher, Obstruction Free emergency exit routes and gates etc. Amit: Raj, one thing more, I saw no one was present in conference room but the lights and AC were in running, it should be switched Off as it will not only save energy but will reduce the electricity bill too. Raj: Yes Amit youu are absolutely right. (Raj calls up Security guys and instructs then to turn of the Conference lights and AC). Amit: Raj, these safety measures are not just for you or for me to follow but its every ones responsibility, as just by following these simple procedures loss of life and goods can be avoided. Communicate all your friends and colleagues what you now know for a safer space. Raj: Believe me Amit it was a good learning for me today, I will definitely share my learnings to my colleagues too, now lets go home and celebrate my mom has prepared some delicious food for you. Both Raj and Amit leaves for the home..
