Explainantion

Cause

The high process temperature causes oxygen and nitrogen in the air to combine, forming nitric oxide (NO).

Nitric oxide is a severe eye, skin and mucous membrane irritant. Nitrogen dioxide is a highly toxic, irritating gas. There has been some reports of exposure to high levels of nitrogen dioxide (as generated by oxy-fuel gas cutting in confined spaces) resulting in severe ill health and even death (long term effect)

carbon monoxide (CO) may also form

causing a reduction in the bloods oxygen carrying capacity which can be fatal.

generally only a problem when cutting plate thicknesses above 40-50 mm or when a large excess of 90 dB may result of hearing damage number of cutting torches are used simultaneously

from hight temperature (900 degree farenheit)

serious injury that relate to heat (blistered)

very high pressure (2500 psi) and contain highly flammable gas

can cause explosion and serious injury and damage to workshop

serious and fatal accidents can occurr at workplaces during the cutting of 20, 60 or 205-litre steel fuel explosion or seriuos injury drums

Any coating that have been applied The presence of any contaminates

Carbon steel - iron oxide forms the main component can result in siderosis, a permanent but relatively of the fume benign condition which affects the lungs

Galvanised steel - generates zinc oxide fumes

This is an acute illness of short duration characterised by a dry cough, difficulty breathing, shaking and cramps

High, short-term exposure to the fumes can cause Metal alloys containing cadmium - release cadmium kidney damage, and inflammation of the lung tissue fumes which can prove fatal.

Chromium

Hexavalent chromium can cause ulceration, skin sensitisation, occupational asthma and cancer.

Lead

Prolonged exposure can result in adverse effects on the blood, kidneys, central nervous system and reproduction.

Zinc

Metal fume fever causing flu-like symptoms.

might produced excess 90 dB

hearing damage

high speed rotation

may cause serious injury

The input power circuit and machine internal circuits are also live when power is on. Incorrectly installed or improperly grounded equipment is a hazard. The flying sparks, hot workpiece, and hot equipment. Very often sparks fly off from the joint area.

Touching live electrical parts can cause fatal shocks or severe burns.

Accidental contact of electrode to metal objects can cause sparks, explosion, overheating, or fire.

Do not touch hot parts bare handed.

may cause burn

Welding produces fumes and gases.

Breathing these fumes and gases can be hazardous to your health.

Where employees are exposed at or above 85 dB, employers are required to conduct a noise assessment, provide hearing protection and provide training on using the hearing protection correctly. If employees daily personal exposure exceeds 90 dB, in addition to the above the employer has also to take steps to try and reduce the level of this exposure other than by the means of hearing protection.
