Manufacture of 53 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement (53 Grade OPC)

Manufacture of 53 Grade cement has now become industry standard in the modern age. The requirement for high strength cement is growing as the constructional work is getting more demanding and diverse in their applications. The architectural aspect also demands better finished concrete structures with Cantilevered Elevations giving way to the more traditional design patterns. Hence forth the earlier 43 Grade OPC has now gradually given way to 53 Grade OPC. 53 Grade ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) ensures better concrete properties, workability and to some extent also shows better withstanding to the other natural causes of Concrete deteriorations such as Sulphate and alkali attacks. Manufacture of 53 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement is done primarily with better cement clinkers with balanced proportions of basic clinker components such as Tri Calcium Silicates, Di Calcium Silicates , Tri Calcium Aluminate, Tetra Calcium Alumino Ferrite. In manufacturing 53 Grade OPC, the proper proportions of these components are the basic towards establishing efficient and progressive hydraulic reactions when the cement comes in contact with water. Moreover the balanced phases also ensure higher reaction rates and so also the early and later strength developments

in concrete. Finer grinding is also accomplished to ensure that the rate of reactions is higher and particle size distributions are even. 53 Grade OPC gives higher surface area for reactions with water molecule which in turn produces much faster reaction rate together with evolution of greater heat of hydration within one square cm of surface of cement area covered. 53 Grade OPC therefore might require more water in the early curing stages as the rate of heat evolution is more and tends to be faster as compared to any other grade of cement manufactured . The better curing in early stages of 53 Grade OPC cement concrete would ensure that the later strengths produced would be much more significant and substantial than other cements of lower grades. The manufacturing of 53 Grade OPC has now been taken as the industry standard in Indian and International context. The process of manufacturing of 53 Grade cement has been improved to ascertain the proper phase developments in clinkering stages.
