SAFETY GUIDELINES
There must be at least two non-related volunteers with children at all times. At no time should a volunteer be alone with a child. Children may only be released to a person with the proper receipt claim sticker. If they dont have a sticker, find a staff member to obtain identification from the parent and release the child. Due to the large number of allergies, there are no snacks served in our Early Childhood classrooms. ADULT / CHILD RATIO There is a set adult / child ratio to help ensure a safe environment for our children. The ratios are: Kindergarten 1 adult to 8 children 1st 5th Grade 1 adult to 10 children
BATHROOM PROCEDURES All children who need to go to the bathroom should use the bathrooms located between the classrooms. Kindergarten Age or Older: Appropriate Permission granted to use facility; unless special help (if a child has temporary physical limitations, i.e., broken arm, crutches, etc.) is required. After the care provider has ensured that the bathroom is clear, the care provider should wait outside the bathroom door, which will remain slightly open. Inappropriate Closed door situation with a child; accompanying
PHYSICAL CONTACT GUIDELINES Appropriate physical contact includes: non-demanding, gentle touch of shoulders, hands, arms, head or back; sitting child on leg; high fives or shaking hands. Inappropriate physical contact includes: demanding hugs and kisses; touching chest, genital region, upper legs, buttocks, waist, stomach; sitting child in center of your lap; sitting child between legs; opposite sex piggy back rides; seductiveness or suggestive contact. Any physical contact of any kind that is done for the pleasure or satisfaction of care providers is unacceptable. Any touching used to express power or control over a child is not appropriate. DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES The thing to remember when dealing with challenges in the classroom is LOVE. The children in your classroom are precious in Gods eyes. We want them to experience the love of God and feel connected. Your patient, consistent approach will help create a positive classroom environment. Here are some things to keep in mind: Praise specific behaviors you want to see in your group (i.e. great listening, thank you for waiting) Give clear guidelines of what you expect. (i.e. When we walk down the hallway we need to walk not run) Use Dos instead of Donts. (i.e. You may talk when the story is finished). This sounds friendlier and the child is told what to do. Give Choices (i.e. you can walk or I can carry you.) A time out is often helpful when a child has become emotionally upset. Allow the child a few moments of space to compose themselves. Corporal punishment or verbal abuse of any kind is not acceptable. Avoid words that could cause feelings of condemnation or shame. We want you to know that you are not alone in the teaching process. If you have tried several strategies with a child who is consistently disruptive in the classroom and do not have desired change in behavior, please notify a KiDS COR staff member for help and guidance. KIDS COR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Please take time to read through the complete list of guidelines located at www.kidscor.blogspot.com
Small Groups
Why? Creating an environment in which children are known and cared for and through which childrens hearts are touched and changed. An environment where relationships are being built. Relationships are developed and nurtured. What? A structured time set aside each week in which the same 8-10 children meet with their same small group guide. A time for building relationships and to communicate the relevance of the Bible truths they have heard to their lives. Who? You are a facilitator to apply the curriculum. You take the curriculum and put it into action. You create an environment that is physically and emotionally safe, you speak to the children with respect, you ask the children questions, you maintain eye contact with the children at their level, you listen carefully and use appropriate touch. You are on time to greet the children and are prepared. You have a desire to know the children and for them to know you. You are attentive and focused on the children during Large Group time. You have a desire for the children to develop spiritually and model Christ like behavior in your presence and beyond the church walls. You share your own spiritual development and pray for the children in your group. You encourage children with written notes and cards. (cards are provided in a container in each check-in room!) How? You will do your best to maintain the same group of children throughout the year. Children may be added to your group during the year and you will strive to keep your group to a manageable number of children. You will spend 30 minutes with this group of children every week during which time you will discuss the Bible story, reinforce the Bible story through games, crafts and conversation. You will also spend time sharing joys and concerns, reinforcing the Bible Memory Verse, encouraging and praying with the children. Your small group time will include a time to share joys and concerns, to give encouragement, to build relationships getting to know the children personally and to discuss the Bible story and scripture that were shared that day, growing deeper in their faith through games, conversations, and prayers. Small Group BINS each room is supplied with small group bins that contain the supplies for that day. Each bin is stocked for 20 children (K-2nd) and 15 children (3rd-5th) and there are 12 bins for each grade level. These bins are for use at ALL THREE services on Sunday and since we are stocking for 300 kids in each class we should have PLENTY of supplies to go around. o BINS are labeled for each service hour 9:00am (5 bins) 10:45am (5 bins) & 5:00pm (2 bins) o 10:45 can use any extra supplies from 9:00 bins and 5:00 can use any extra supplies from both the 9:00 & 10:45 bins.
I interpret volunteer to mean that I have been accepted as a partner-in-service and I expect to serve according to the same standards as childrens ministry staff.
I promise to take an attitude of open mindedness, to be willing to be trained, and to bring to it interest and attention. I believe my attitude toward service should be professional, as I am serving for the Lord. I believe that I have an obligation to my service role, to those who direct it, to my colleagues, to those for whom I serve, and to the congregation, for it is a privilege to be in ministry for Christ.
I acknowledge that for classroom volunteers the commitment is August, 2011 May, 2012. For Nursery volunteers, Information Booth volunteers, or Greeters, the commitment is from August, 2011 August, 2012.
I acknowledge that I have read and agree to follow all KiDS COR Policies and Procedures.
Being eager to contribute all that I can to the goals of childrens ministry, I accept this covenant, to be followed carefully and cheerfully, as if serving the Lord Himself.

May the Lord make your love for each other and for everyone else grow by leaps and bounds. Thats how our love for you has grown. 1 Thessalonians 3:12
3. RADIATE ENTHUSIASM.
Seek to serve according to your passion for ministry and spiritual gifts. When you are operating in your God-appointed place of service, others notice as they see you serving with gladness. Positive energy and enthusiasm are contagious.
4. BE LOYAL.
You are on the Lords team! Seek to view others through the eyes of Christ, loving one another, just as you love yourself.
6. BE GENEROUS.
Make the words thank you the most commonly used words in your vocabulary.
10. MOVING ON . . .
When you hear the Lords call.. We are counting on the fact that your relationship with Him is a top priority and because of that you are seeking His voice and will for your life. If you feel called to a new area of ministry, we will applaud your service and seek to help you make a new service connection.
